    Just in case people are still wondering what crystal to pair with the DLW slopped bezel inserts, their website actually lists the compatible crystals in the description of each insert. Slopped inserts need to be paired with a domed or type E crystal, and will not work with the flat / factory OEM crystal.

      yeah definitely need the domed crystal with the domed insert. such a nice finish when you get both perfectly fitted

    Don’t freak out, Rob! Perfection is required in watch modding, so it’s a good trait to have. I’d think the more established mod sites, with the best parts will be able to tell you if certain parts work together. You probably do have to figure out what works with what. That’s why people charge to mod watches! Hang in there. You’re doing great.

    For me the best solution was a DLW fully lumed *flat* ceramic bezel insert paired with the crystaltimes CT037F crystal. The crystal is designed to have no inner bevel whatsoever, meaning that there is no gap at all between it and the bezel insert. Worth having a look!

    I have a 013, which I understand is a different model, but I ordered a submariner bezel with ceramic insert from yobokies. They fit ok aethetically, but it won't stay on. They sent me a replacement which did not fit either.
    On my 007, I ordered a ceramic insert from dlw, but I see the same problem you see with it being concave up so now I had to order a domed crystal.

    I just did my first watch MOD using a Heimdallr and had exactly the same experience. I also had a larger gap like you have on this watch between the bezel and the watch body hence leaving the larger gap between the bezel insert and the crystal? In my case I am suspicious of the Heimdallr tolerances over the Namoki parts that I fitted. Homer has a very good eye in my opinion the bezel insert matches the dial beautifully. Keep up the great work on the channel much appreciated.

    If every modded watch had a flush bezel I think it would be boring. I used rubber cement on top of the 3M adhesive strip and it raises the bezel a bit. At first I was upset with my mistake but now I've grown to like having the insert towering above the bezel and glass. It makes it look more 3- dimensional and adds character.

    My understanding is the flat bezel inserts are for stock crystals and flat sapphire replacement crystals, the arched inserts are for double domed sapphire crystals that need that little extra space. In fact I believe that if you have a double domed crystal you have to use the arched insert.

    Fit is everything in aftermarket parts. And the costs add up fast buying these parts. Please tell us what is a bad fit. Color-wise, staying in the same color but darker. So I'd go with a darker blue bezel that just frames the dial color - looks more subtle and unified

    Thanks for drawing attention to the non-compatible issues on components. I also appreciate the Comments by Subscribers / Viewers. I will be working on modifying SKX013. Want to change to change to sapphire domed crystal + curved bezel insert + coin edge bezel. I believe that best path would be to a single mod supplier and so I can (if necessary) properly address any issues with same.

    You can specify a sloped or a flat bezel insert but must also consider which sapphire you will be using.

  • @khronokraze

    The Seiko divers stock bezel insert and crystals still have that slight gap between the crystal and the inner bezel. I find it a little amusing when it comes to mod and this shows up still, some are surprised and do not like the look like it wasn't on the stock watch before. I get it, but most angles it doesn't matter and not that noticeable.
    That being said, and it takes some experimenting or at least asking others who know what to use to minimalize the bezel/crystal gap, is to find the crystal to match your bezel type. It's preferred to order all your parts at the same time so you have all the parts to do your mod from start to finish without stopping. BUT, it may be better to order the crystal last or at least after you have the bezel insert of your choice so you know what crystal cut is best to match so you minimize, if not eliminate altogether, the bezel/crystal gap.
    I've found Crystal Times to have a lot of choices that accommodate just about any bezel insert and get the look and fitment you are looking for.
    As with your Homer watch issue. I really believe it comes to maybe getting a new crystal versus finding a new bezel.. I feel maybe the bevel cut around the crystal and how it all sits in the case and sort of just at or just under the bezel line will always leave that slight gap. Might be easier to look for a crystal to accommodate the bezel insert of your choice instead. As such, I still feel Crystal Times may have the most selection and variety of crystal cuts and profile that will match the bezel insert. They specially make some that are meant to fill and eliminate the crystal/bezel gap.

    One second closer, do crystals only for the skx007. They have a 'vlad' crystal. Wow. The red off it is amazing. Enough to catch your eye, but not enough to obscure.

    Over thinking this. Skip the inner bezel search. You've got a crystal that seems to fit the desired bezel insert, and a fancy crystal press, yeah? Swap the crystal and move on.
    Keep his crystal and fit a bezel insert to it later, for another watch.

    • @RandomRobReviews
      @RandomRobReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose that’s an option. Feels weird popping out a good crystal though.

    • @thenexthobby
      @thenexthobby 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, so long as it doesn't crack or shatter, it just becomes inventory, right? I dunno, but it's like you said, everything has to fit correctly and if an insert is not easily available, then the crystal is "wrong" in that sense.
      I suppose it depends on the timeline for when the watch needs to be done.

    I bought a coin edge bezel from namokimods, for my srp777 but after mounting it on (i had to press with my body weight) the bezel action is so stiff i'm afraid i'm gonna break the spring bars . I then used some ballistol for lubrication and it's a bit better but is still very hard to turn.
    I emailed namokimods and they told me to take it out and inspect the gasket , the o-ring, but i didn't wanna risk scratching my watch or ruin the bezel doing that. The bezel looks great but i can't stand the fact that it doesn't work like it should.
    what do you guys suggest? did you have similar experience ?
    P.S. I took the bezel out twice, eventually, and the gasket looks good but the bezel action is still terible !

    That’s why DLW recommend their double dome crystal. I like the flat crystal and flat insert. Yes, parts should be well integrated or it looks jimmy rigged. Yobokies might have the insert you’re looking for but good luck sifting through his tedious Photobucket. I don’t have the patience for it. Ask the Seiko Mods Facebook group. I’m sure you’ll get a lot of LCBI responses, but somebody likely has an idea that might work for you.

    That's not con-cave. It is con-vex or tapering up or outward. Most bezel rings taper out or upward. I would guess the crystal needs to be thicker. I have seen some as much as 1.5mm thicker. I don't like it because they usually do this using hardlex or standard crop glass. I can't imagine making the glass protrude outward beyond the bezel using plain glass. Sapphire, maybe. Just my guess because I have done a few. I do agree with "Geary" be;ow/ I was never a big fan of Pepsi/coke etc bezels but, that blue and red pepsi bezel did look VERY good. Maybe Homer saw this?... And, when you held up the 2 dome crystals, one seems to have the cut area showing thicker than the other? measure EVERYTHING.
