    I also usually mod with Seiko parts. I simply find a Seiko model whose parts fit what I want and use that

    I wish Seiko could align a damn chapter ring!

    • @daviddeckert
      @daviddeckert 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll happen in future models, once Seiko realizes you can stamp a dial and chapter ring as one piece as Deep Blue and others do. Of course, the modding community will freak out and there will be much gnashing of teeth as a result.

      Maybe I’m lucky but I’ve never had one that isn’t aligned. But if I found one that was, (from an Authorized Seiko dealer) I’d return it for another, if available, or have it corrected it by their watchmaker.

    Hey Rob, where do you purchase your OEM parts?

    Awesome video, thanks! As much as I like my stock SKX 007K1 i would like to have a coin edge bezel on it. Oh yeah a hacking movement would be awesome too, plus a see-through case back 😄

    You and I are very alike in our “mod ideas” Rob. I also took my theme from my car modding days “OEM-Plus” for the win.

  • @stevenwymor1398
    @stevenwymor1398 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rob, I agree 100%. Just ordered an SRPC25 dial and and am gonna use the stock 009 chapter ring and a set of brushed hour and minute hands from the SRPB11 blue lagoon turtle. Will also put a blue sapphire crystal on it. May put a Batman insert on it, but trying to stick with OEM too. All in an SKX case because, well, for me that case is perfect.

    • @RandomRobReviews
      @RandomRobReviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I search eBay mostly. Sometimes I just buy a whole watch and take the parts I want.

    • @DrFrankLondon
      @DrFrankLondon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or you can contact your local watchmaker as at least mine is able to get the parts I need and want for my mods and usually cheaper than what I find on EBay. But I don't install the sapphire crystals, when that time comes, I let my watchmaker do it and they do as well pressure test it to make sure everything is up to standards. But at least my watchmaker is very helpful with finding OEM parts.

  • @daviddeckert
    @daviddeckert 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Gold rotor? You might get one for about $50-$60 if you choose the right Invicta, and get it already installed on a free NH35a in the bargain. :)
    But seriously, OEM Plus has always been how I do my cars too! What I've noticed about watches however, is once you change more than maybe 1 or 2 things, it can become easily mistaken for another model, which defeats the purpose IMO. Either save up and buy the real thing, or keep it restrained and actually special.

    I would buy the new blue monster if it had the Teeth Dial!!!!!!!! My skx is super modded. 4R36 official one, coin edge, blue lagoon dial, DD Sapphire, ceramic bezel, signed crown and strapcode Angus Jubilee braclet. Its my fav watch ever!

    Filming wise , just film yourself modifying the watch and the add talk over later on

  • @sashachip

    Display case back on a diver? Not even Rolex, Omega, Doxa, Tudor, etc, etc, do that because it takes away from its purpose as a diving tool.

    • @sashachip
      @sashachip 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stylish first off- have you seen the 7s26 movement? There is nothing about it that makes it attractive to look at. It’s a workhorse but not pretty and not the most accurate. Second- taking a tool watch and making it something else is like taking a Ferrari chassis and putting a Hyundai engine in it. You take away from the intended purpose of the watch. Even if you don’t use it as intended it should still be built to handle the task.

    • @sashachip
      @sashachip 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A A which model? Ive never heard of an Omega diver with display back Case.

    My biggest loath in a mod is the wait to gather all the parts from various sources. Especially when they need a signature and can't deliver and I have to make the effort and time to go to the post office to try and get it and sometimes they just can't find the part and I have to come back later and try again. Luckily, nothing's been lost, but it sure feels like it could be sometimes.
    Getting an SKX case cerakoted so looking forward to getting that one back probably next week. $35 for case and case back.. which i think is a hell of a lot better than most other places i've checked and they want close to, or over, $100 and the turnover time is ridiculous several weeks if not months. I found a somewhat local professional that cerakotes firearms and does other custom jobs such as my watch and he can turn it around fast too.
    I usually go for an OEM look as well. Actually, the watch may in fact have extensive mods and changes performed. BUT, my goal is always to try and make it look like it could have come from the Seiko factory like that. I prefer it if the watch does not look very obviously modified and you surprise people when the opportunity arises to reveal what was customized.

      The website sucks I agree, but buying from him is pretty easy. Email him with what you want. He’ll reply with price, PayPal link and in my experience a link to a relevant forum post with pics. Pay him and you’ll receive your order within a couple weeks.

    • @RandomRobReviews

      I bought elsewhere. Yobokies should hand his sales over to a legit web sales. The way they are sold is horrible and I won’t buy them that way.

    Just can't get excited about any SKX anymore. So many more cases, dials and movements now that don't harken back but use better components that are now available. When I see a nice dial, hands and then see that SKX case it's anti-climactic....I am just not interested in that watch anymore.
