    The Netherlands has a population about 5 times smaller than Germany but with 2 times the density. I’m not anti asylum, but it doesn’t strike me as reasonable to outright dismiss the desire for a lower rate

    Why does the Netherlands have to match Germany’s Immigrant per capita rate?

  • @MalikenNL
    @MalikenNL 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +83

    "The Netherlands took about 10 times less immigrants than Germany, so it's not even much in the grand scheme of things.", while kindly ignoring the fact that the Netherlands is also about 10 times smaller than Germany in terms of landmass and being one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. Also if Germany wants to keep this 'Wir schaffen das' mentality doesn't mean we want it.

      @@timothytusubira9904 40,000 is not 'only'. It is too many if you see the size of the country and the population density. Due to housing shortage there have been an increase of homeless people. There are already long waiting list on social housing. People are waiting for 3-4 years for getting a social housing, whereas the asylum seekers are being provided those housing without any wait. Reducing immigrants can definitely solve the housing problems to begin with.

Like we are already one of the most densely populated countries on this entire planet of ours, and adding even "only" 40.000 just adds to this increase of density (and idk if the 40k was including or excluding family reunionization efforts). We need nature space, agricultural space, recreational space, industry space. We can't just build more and more and more, up and out, until the entire country is effectively one mega-city.

    The immigration issue is for many in the Netherlands not even an original immigration issue. Plenty support immigration but feel that the Netherlands can't handle it in the current situation. For instance due to the housage shortage which is already taking place for years and grows bigger and bigger (which is also directly related to many houses becoming unaffortable for the average population). Meanwhile to few houses can be build due to other EU rules to protect nature.
    It basically all adds up and the previous governments have been unable to solve the issue (this being just one of a few major topics throughout the years) thus the population looks elsewhere to have such issues solved.

    Apart from the wisdom of a nutrient balance in agriculture, the regulations underpin the Single Market, in that they prevent trade advantage from a race to the bottom on environmental standards.

      So the Russian yt bots never stop...
      The EU is the reason why we've had peace for 60+ years. Before the EU everybody tried to kill everyone else every couple of years.
      The EU is the reason for economic growth and prosperity. Before the EU the Europeans were either meh or had to exploit colonies to grow.
      The EU is the reason why Europe matters in the first place. No country in Europe is large enough to compete with the US, China or Russia on their own. (This is why the Russian bots never stop trying to divide us.)
      And the EU is a huge force for ANTI(!!!)-bureaucracy. There is only one set of rules, no borders and mostly just one currency. Many people already forgot how annoying it used to be - and still is for countries outside the EU - to look up and comply regulations for x different countries, fill our customs forms for import, export and transit etc. Ask the UK, and they only have to do it for the EU. You aren't morally obliged to let people move into your house if you employed them at some point in time (or if your grandfather employed their grandparents, or if a wealthy guy that lived in your neighborhood during your grandfather's time employed their grandparents). What's the point of independence if the people want to turn around and move to the land of their former rulers? Were Morocco, Turkey, Syria, or Afghanistan ever Dutch colonies, anyway?

    The EU was created out of political convenience with total disregard of the varying eco-politico-social profiles of the countries in the first set and adding more complexity as it forced itself to expand. What is currently happening is in response to the strait-jackets the EU Commission and EU Council are forcing EU States to wear. Unlike the EEC, the EU is entrapment. Imprisoned by the Euro currency.
