      I gather it has changed a lot since i was last there. The traction certainly has!

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Indeed, I haven't been to Lincoln since 1999 myself, so I daresay it has changed even more!

      Unless you've seen some recent stuff on TH-cam or done a bit of google, you wouldn't recognise Lincoln West of the station.

    Fantastic video! I used to live just outside Lincoln in the 80’s and used to see the trains at central station most weekends. My grandfather used to take me to Newark Northgate in the school holidays for spotting trips. Brought back some great memories! Thank you for uploading!

      Somewhat changed now without the semaphores sadly!

      Agree. It’s all quite boring there now, very little variety.

      Brayford yard is now student flats built in the rush to make Lincoln a uni city in the 90s.

    I see there used to be a footbridge over the level crossing at Lincoln long before the present one was installed.

    The shunter you see at Lincoln central was bought in late 1988 by Lincoln City Council. It was a former pilot in the area, and the city council bought it for display.

    Great video, as usual. Network South-East had very long tentacles in those days!

      I think is was an NSE based DMU but the Peterborough-Lincoln service was a regional service (probably a Cambridge based DMU used on the Royston shuttles).

      @@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Great vid again sir! Yes, according to plt.5 in june 1989, the NSE unit no's 51208 + 54402 were Old Oak based at the time!

      Unusual for DMUs to wander so far from home. Locos were a different matter especially 47s. With such a wide traction knowledge they would end up far from home, some Depot's took great delight in keeping a foreign engine that was in good order away from its home depot for a long as possible! Until the home Depot recalled it on TOPS for an exam and it would have to be sent back!

    We saw a lot of changes in Newark in the 80s but never saw a Deltic pass Beaver Hill bridge in 1978.

    The platform starting signal was pulled off before the gates were opened?! 4:20 That was asking for an accident, wasn't it.

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, because there was another signal before the gates and in fact level crossing gates have a red lamp/plate on them which is also a stop signal (some crossings have a distant signal but there is no actual stop arm signal, that is because the red light/plate on the crossing gates IS the stop signal). Once the platform signal is cleared the box then knows the train is actually on the move and the bobby can get the gates shut & his section signal cleared.

    Lincoln St Mark's had gone a few years previously. It was the old Midland station, notable for a long timber gangplank between the running lines, and a concrete path which passengers casually used to cross platforms! Lots of rattling Cravens, too. Great to see the bouncing semaphore signals again. I'd forgotten the green 08.

      I seem to recall the DMU shed ended up as a bus garage!

    • @hornet1068
      @hornet1068 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DMU shed is now owned by Stagecoach, it hasn't really changed inside. The bus inspection pits are on the same lines as the old rail pits, all that's missing is the track.

    Hi Soi, corresponded on your videos few times, But Still cannot believe how much & far you traveled around this period, these are of real great historical interest of so many parts of the uk, where did you find the time! and countless tapes, just love this ,semaphores, level crossings and other bits of infrastructure all history with all the plastic ‘things ‘ around now,. We all, well most of us Steam lovers mourned the demise, of and now miss the smell of the old ‘DMU’ any real class Loco great sounding Diesel thundering pass, something that made you look up and take note, your stuff Again and expect reactions is that, brilliant like me miss this also, who wants to go down to any station now and just record plastic ‘numbers’ I recently went into London from Kent via the Blue Javelin to the ally pally Railway show, brilliant service, but nothing to look at at any stations and one’d it did covered in weeds etc, boring.🤓

      Thank you Edward, i'm pleased you like the films. I have always worked on public transport and the railway period allowed me priv rate travel while in London i had an LT staff pass. A lot of buses and trains i liked were being withdrawn in the 80s/90s so went out of my way to film them. On BR i aimed for loco workings, freight or passenger and have had a soft spot for HST's since seeing my first in early 1976 at Swindon. There are still lots of places i can upload, this day out for instance i carried on to Barnetby, then Scunthorpe (caught 3 class 08s shunting the yard behind the station-all gone now) and mostly finished at Doncaster apart from a shot of an HST+91 set shunting into an unwired siding at Retford as we had run over a push bike and it had damaged the train!

    When locos are coupled in multiple such as the two 31's on tanks I get that the driver is in the front loco and he controls throttle and brakes, etc. But how did he monitor the rear engine for issues, such as warning lights, temperature issues, drivetrain faults and so on?

    • @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus
      @SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once coupled up in multiple all electrical and air signals were relayed to all cabs. I had 110 & 420 in mult once on the Marks Tey to Hayes sand train when a blue light came on at Caledonian Road. My lead loco 420 had over-loaded and the engine was at idle but 31 110 was thrashing away behind me and got me as far as Camden Road where the line levelled out and i could shut off and re-apply power without loosing too much traction. Luckily both locos powered up again and i topped Hampstead Tunnel at about 10 MPH!!!

      Years back the old DMUs were coupled in some right old formations. Most had the same coupling code so anything could couple to anything else! The Midland main Line had hydraulic ones which kept to class and Scotland had the 126's that ran on the Ayr lines which i think were white star code and again kept to themselves.
