"Making the chainplates"
Building a ship model of the HMS PEGASUS (1776) in scale 1:64. Kit manufactured by the Italian company Amati. Here I share my personal impressions of the kit and results.
HMS Pegasus was the sixth of 25 Swan Class ship rigged sloops ordered by the Admiralty between 1766 and 1780. Built at Sheerness Dockyard, Pegasus was launched on December 27th, 1776.

If you have a small motor, like say an old aquarium pump that vibrates a bit, you can set small picnic cups atop those to help 'wash' the blackening off. I've put the rinsed, and dry, blackened parts through a tumbler with ground corn and corn meal for a medium. You then need a garage sale sieve to recover the parts from the tumbling medium.
Never thought about it. I need to borrow a pump from Imbir))) from his fountain...

The manufacturer does not suggest using a soldering iron at all - just join these parts to a pile and nail them until they not fell apart...

Another great video Olha. Just a word of caution for anyone building the Pegasus. On this particular model the central 'open' link of the chainplates has to be shortened slightly for many of the main shrouds otherwise the chainplates end up interfering with the wale. This is an issue reported in several build logs and I had the same problem. This could be a problem if pre-assembling all the chainplates without testing for fit in their final place on the ship, particularly if soldering them closed.

Хочу поделиться советом из личного опыта: для латуни надо использовать надфиль с алмазным напылением или специальный для фототравления. Сам пользуюсь специальным для фототравления фирмы Тамия - прекасный результат - ровный спил. Обычный надфиль оставляет глубокие царапины. При пайке не надо двигать паяльником - припой должен сам расстекаться ровным слоем или собираться в ровную капельку. Желаю дальнейших успехов в постройке модели.

У меня есть только по дереву надфили и рашпили, но если шлифовать в разнЬІх направлениях - то никаких глубоких царапин, а после химии вообще все гладко...
Я использую жидкий флюс для крепкой пайки и что б потом не шлифовать излишки припоя я их паялиьником убираю сразу же.

No doubt the PE details are very helpful, but the old school of blacksmith techniques are always helpful!
Unfortunately with these new kits full of pre-built details the modellers are not encouraged to learn new skills...it's a pity, to me.

13:31 - This is a side view on a flat drawing, so the chainplates should be longer - on the model they end above the wales line.
Did you blacken the nails or are they purchased that color. Excellent work by the way!
In the subtitles there is all the information about materials and techniques. If it was my own brass wire nails - then I blacken them with Brass Black. For large scale I buy black nails for N scale railroad track...

"Modelers" - we all think the same)))
Olha, your soldering would improve greatly if you kept your iron tip clean, tinned and shiny. Looks like the flux you are using is relatively aggressive (phosphoric acid?) which will play havoc on the iron so cleanliness will improve and simplify your joints. Also taking the solder to the metal on the iron rather than heating the metal with the iron and then applying solder is not really the best the way to go. As you have so many to do a simple two pin jig to hold the assembly in a fixed position would free your hands. You could then use a prefluxed solder 0.5 - 0.7mm diameter, then clean up in acetone before blackening.
Yes, here I use prefluxed solder 0.7mm diameter and liqued flux.
This allows you to get a thin and strong soldering. And precisely because there are a lot of details, I use tweezers - it allows you to do all the work much faster...
I use Brass Black which blackens various types of solder and without acetone cleanup...

Уже 5 лет собираю Сантиссима Тринидад от Ocre( Странное чувство...предыдущую модель делал с нуля.Решил купить набор,думал,что соберу за полгода где-то...оказалось,что с нуля построить проще,косяков-туча...порадовала инструкция на русском,типа,не стоит слепо следовать указаниям-где-то фантазию проявить,где-то переточить,где-то что-то заменить,а точнее-выкинуть.Странно чувствую себя...всегда думал,что из набора легче сделать,а оказалось-наоборот(
Все так думают)))) Что деревянный набор как пластиковый - "склей готовые детали". По етому когда меня начинают учить скратчбилдеры - я у них спрашиваю сколько китов они построили что б учить других... Одно дело строить из хороших материалов с нуля, а другое собрать достойную модель из того дешового мусора из коробки)))

But to wash them after, I really use plain water…

А чем вы чернили гвоздики? А то у моих какой то другой сплав, и он так и останется жёлтым. Чернение с припоя не слезло?
Eто черньІе гвозди N scale с железнодорожних магазинов - они имеют идеально круглую шляпку и ненадо чернить...
