HOWEVER, fairly consistently after beating sky net and when you get sent back to the past the sound just stops working which to me looks like a software issue. It’s definitely expensive but man, this might be the one I am tempted to get the most. This is easily my favorite arcade game. I spent so many hours memorizing it on my Genesis…using a controller.

These are no longer “made for kids” and the price reflects that. Kids aren’t the ones that want these cabinets, it’s the adults that want these cabinets. When people finally realize this is when A1U will stop with the cheap low quality components. Adults want quality while kids don’t care, and while I’m paying $700 I want top end quality.

I look forward to getting this for 200 dollars in a couple months when retailers start cleaning house. The cabinet is beautiful and the game is fun, but there is a very limited audience at that price. A1up knows this and they are taking you guys for a ride.
I like your idea of including SNES and Genesis versions of T2 as well. Seems like it would be easy enough from a licensing perspective and they also wouldn't be burning future possibilities for gun cabinets (such as if they included Time Crisis or House of the Dead, which each deserve their own cabinets). Thanks for the review MichaelB! I'm surprised you didn't mention any speaker / audio issues like earlier review videos, I wonder if they hotfixed the volume defaults. I was torn between this cab and Tron, went with Tron but after watching your video I think I convinced myself I need to figure out space for T2 as well :)
Looks good. I own a full size T2 I bought a few years ago. 1up did a great job on reproducing this machine, within the limitations they had. It’s funny that some people are complaining about the gun clicking option. On my arcade cab, there are knockers that go crazy when you shoot. So loud, that I had to pull the fuses on them to turn them off.
And the guns also get hot, for real. After a longer play session. That was a bit frightening and amazing discovery at the same time. I expect this "feature" is not unique for my cabinet only.
How much did you spend on it? I know a guy who bought a full size T2 cabinet back in 2007 when arcades were dying. He bought it for super cheap I don’t even want to say.
@@TheFailedmessiah I bought it for 350 bucks. I think it was in 2014 or 2015. I’ve since got out of collecting Arcade games. Prices are insane and my back does not like moving them around. LOL. At one time, I had around 70 machines in my house and garage. It was a little out of hand.

My friend got his in like 2008 for 400 dollars, but the guy who sold it to him had maintenance on it in 2003 after T3 came out in 2003 ppl started playing it again. So everything worked like new. But by 2008, the arcade business went belly up. You can find some of these machines for a song. I’d love to find a time crisis machine for cheap with gun feedback.
@@TheFailedmessiah I had 2 time crisis machines once. One was almost fully functional and another was a parts machine. The one that was almost fully functioning had one bad part. It was this little camera that tracked the gun. It was a very specific part that was problematic on those machines. The parts machine was missing that camera, so I needed to buy a replacement for the good machine. No one had made an aftermarket one and I couldn’t find a used one. Only option was to buy one new from Namco. It was like 700 dollars, so I never bought one. Ended up selling the machines to someone. It sucked, because the game ran, but just couldn’t track the gun. Foot pedal worked. Monitor was bright and colorful with no screen burn. Cab was in great shape. Gun was in perfect condition.
It's a pass for me. Too much money and I feel the Buck Hunter has more replay ability and several side games. If this had a couple more games on it I would have preferred it. It just misses the mark for me. I waited to buy any gun game until they came out with a second one and just purchased a Buck Hunter once I saw the first review of this one. Oh well, I am happy you got what you wanted this time. I will wait for time crisis or house of the dead to upgrade from buck hunter. Thanks for the great review! :-)

If a marquee, or any other component of an Arcade1up isn't up to snuff, you'll call it out. The T2 marquee looks great from the video and I'm glad Arcade1up came through. I recently got the Ms. Pac-Man Partycade and it's probably the best light up marquee in my collection. Such deep blacks :) Don't let the detractors get you down. Wait, no mention of the SOUND?!?... I went through the review video twice, and unless I missed it both times, you didn't mention the sound quality at all. And that surprised me, given how big of an issue this has been on recent cabs. I mean, the screen-softening filter alone would turn me off, but if they at least got the sound right, that would help! EDIT: KFox's review mentions that it's still an issue. He says it sounds ok, but doesn't get loud at all, which seems to be the common complaint.
I picked one up too. The cabinet looks amazing and the game is a lot of fun, but that freaking helicopter stage is impossible! Maybe dual weilding both guns if you don't have a second player might help?
Fascinating to see them do a light gun-based cabinet at last! Hopefully one day we might get a _House Of The Dead_ or _Point Blank_ version, either of those would kick so much ass. 😄
I forgot to mention in my previous comment that the original cabinet has four start buttons as well. Two for player one and two for player two. You’re right about the reasoning being the extra buttons. Some are right handed and some are left handed. So the start buttons are designed for ease of use with both. You die often and need to hit the continue/start button fast.
FYI, the only requirement for the Sinden light guns is the white border. It doesn't matter the tilt of the screen or whether pixels are smooth or well-defined.
Two Sinden lightguns alone would cost $220, and wouldn't include rumble. You could always drop an old PC or Pi4 in the cabinet to solve your issues with the number of games and the filters. It wouldn't solve your problem with the guns not being attached to the control panel, but it would be easier to accept.

This is still one of my all-time favorite games... The dream is to own a full size arcade cabinet of this game. I liked "operation wolf" as well but this was the one that "ate" most of my allowance.
Just noticed they didn't quite use the right font on the T2 logo. The 2 is especially odd. I have a lot of T2 stuff so it stuck out to me. Cool cabinet otherwise!! I think removing the softening filter, fixing the logo font, and coloring the guns to be like the original would set it over the top though.
Great review but I dont think I'll buy it mainly down to the fact that it's only one game. I would be so happy though if Arcade 1up create a House of the Dead cabinet. My favourite shooting arcade game
Besides the Ninja turtles arcade game this one looks like the funnest one I've seen so far. Better even than Street fighter 2. Doesn't surprise me one bit that this would be a very expensive arcade 1up product. Besides stopping off at an arcade the only way I was ever able to play this was on the Sega Genesis with the controller. On that system I would actually prefer the controller over the menacer though. Like seriously once you figure out it's possible to beat the whole game including the good ending with the controller. Only level that's ever a pain in the butt is to pick up level where the HKS fly above you but then that one is probably the biggest pain in the butt on any version
All of these t2 cab reviews make the reticle look extremely floaty compared to your actual gun movements. Can you confirm that there is no lag or floatiness?
Terminator 2 is in my top 5 arcade games. I want this cabinet, but I’m still on the fence due to the price and no other games. I have space for only 1 more cabinet and may wait for a Daytona or House of the Dead, assuming they have more than 1 game...
For what you're paying, there should be a bit more monitor real estate with the Sinden guns and border (which I'm not a fan of, feel they're really cheaply made and reaction isn't the best). I've said it and I'll say it again, I tip my hat to them for giving us renditions that are no longer made but the quality and those of us who don't have a ton of space is best served with a multicade and guns attached to it.
Great review! Great to hear the cursor lag is not even an issue, that was my biggest concern for sure. I really hope they do a lethal enforcers cab with both games on it, or a time crisis machine someday.
T2 arcade is a big footnote for arcade machines! It was everywhere back in the day, and it was so cool! After being able to beat this game in emulation, I have to say that in my opinion, it isn't the best game. It is a serious quarter muncher that is designed to steal your quarters. The 2 parts you mentioned that can be failed regardless of how many quarters you use are in my opinion somewhat tedious and not a whole lot of fun. Then the final fight with the T1000 isn't very fair either. Sure, it was an arcade game, and some were like that, but when you compare this game to Revolution X, I think it falls short. Revolution X gets made fun of because it is cheezy with Aerosmith, but in my opinion, it is the better game. It doesn't have unfair parts like T2 and just to me feels like it had a little more time worked on it. Too bad they couldn't have included Revolution X with this game, but that would be another bit of licensing.
The helicopter parts and the final fight are tedious, but beatable if you have enough patience to keep the focus, and of course you have to have lots of coins. Both helicopter pursuits are much easier to beat with two players. Endless coins (free to play mode) give you endless retries. Boss figtht is annoying, confusing and clumsy, but still fun to play with two players. I have a quite fond memories with the game. Right after I had bought the arcade game (the original one) we threw a small office party where I finished the game twice without a pause. Of course the machine was set on free to play mode.
I still want to buy it for myself.. thanks MichaelB. I might install a 13inch tv on the kickplate and hook up a blu ray player to it. So the T2 movie would be playing in my Game Room. 😀
If you want quality just save up for a megacade and customize it. They aren't cheap but you'll get what you want and get over 50k games with guns and 4 player pedestal. It cost us roughly $4500 but is everything we could've wanted
This is definitely a fine game, and very cool machine to own. I have it on my Mame machine too. But even if I didn't, I'm not sure so it would be justified for me to spend $700 on this however, though more power to those who got, and are happy to have an arcade replica of T2. I really hope that the great Terminator: Salvation arcade game could one day get released via Arcade 1Up if that were ever possible someway, somehow, and know I'd definitely get it in a heartbeat if so too!
I disagree with you when it comes to filtering. It's truly a personal preference. I personally can't stand when games look pixilated and blocky which I thought was a major issue with first gen A1up cabinets. Maybe it's because I've grown up playing arcade games on old blurry scanline tv's. A1up should make filters an option like they did with the Golden Axe cabinet. That would satisfy everyone.
The games weren't meant to be blown up to the resolutions we have today, so yeah, they tend to suffer for it. Filtering is a good way to get them looking how they were originally supposed to. I think minimalistic 8-bit graphics can look good with sharp pixels, but not this more detailed style.
I will wait for it at the 500 dollars price point basic on your review! You do have a point that one games at 700 dollars is outrageous! Console games would been an awesome add on for this cab!

@MichaelBtheGameGenie Thanks for that thoughtful review...you really touched upon all that is good, bad and ugly about the T2 A1Up cabinet. I just cannot get over how foolish those toy guns look in the hands of an adult. Sure, they would be sufficient for young humans, but that community doesn't care much for these types of games. This is a "toy" yet with a price tag and nostalgia that will only attract big boys...and the quality should reflect that. IMO, the controls are "cheesy" (not to mention, non-authentic), only one game and a 17" monitor. I would have only ever considered this if it included Revolution X. Therefore, I will remain happy with my A1Up "Frankencabinet" where I can play every retro and modern light gun game on a 32" screen. Heck, I just might build a pedestal and purchase a fixed, potentiometer gun where I can play T2, Operation Wolf and Revolution X with a heck of a lot more authenticity. After getting Big Buck Hunter, I feel they definitely need to increase the monitor size for light gun games. It's just too small. And I can't remember, did the original T2 arcade game have crosshairs? Is there an option to turn them off in the menu on the A1Up?

I think they shoulda added house of the dead with it. But I think we’ve all just been spoiled with Arcade1up adding multiple games to there machines, so when they release one that’s only 1 we’re like wtf. But I can dig that. I mean it’s T2. I bought it as a pre-order but have a problem with the gun calibration. I think it's me.... That I might be doing something wrong. Can you do a video on how to calibrate the guns? Or maybe give me aum tips on calibrating them. I reached out to Arcade 1Up, and they just gave me the same directions from the booklet. Nice, if I lost it, but not nice, if I'm the actual problem. They are at the stage with me of proof of purchase and a video of the game play, to maybe ship another gun controller out. That is still not good if it is me, doing something wrong. Sorry this is so long of a comment.

This was one of my favorite games in the arcade when I was a kid. If I had the room in my house I'd absolutely pick it up. But these cabinets, even at 3/4 scale is far too big for a smaller house like I have. If the lightgun tech works well then I think it's kinda a win. I'm OK with them not creating the experience exactly if the experience is better, but I guess that may be subjective here.
I find it amusing people actually think these are 3/4 scale. I put one of these next to my full size 2 player cabinet and it looked like a toddler standing next to Shaq. Cheap, thin mdf, and if you blow on them they tip over. A1UP'S were just cheap toys, and now they are expensive cheap toys.
I got my control panel signed by Robert Patrick. I love the movie and have nostalgia playing the arcade cabinet, so I’m happy with my purchase. I caught on sale for $299.99 (I think from Best Buy). Plus, I’m a big fan of Sinden, so this was an easy purchase for me.
Hell, if they do a Ghost Squad cab with the saveable progress and gun feel intact, I'd buy it if it was the only game on the cab. It'd be so awesome to have it that way. As it is, all I can do is play it on the wii.

And that surprised me, given how big of an issue this has been on recent cabs. I mean, the screen-softening filter alone would turn me off, but if they at least got the sound right, that would help!
EDIT: KFox's review mentions that it's still an issue. He says it sounds ok, but doesn't get loud at all, which seems to be the common complaint.

I picked one up too. The cabinet looks amazing and the game is a lot of fun, but that freaking helicopter stage is impossible! Maybe dual weilding both guns if you don't have a second player might help?
Fascinating to see them do a light gun-based cabinet at last! Hopefully one day we might get a _House Of The Dead_ or _Point Blank_ version, either of those would kick so much ass. 😄

Man Arcade1Up should give you a couple cabs for free for all the promotions you do for them. Truth.
I forgot to mention in my previous comment that the original cabinet has four start buttons as well. Two for player one and two for player two. You’re right about the reasoning being the extra buttons. Some are right handed and some are left handed. So the start buttons are designed for ease of use with both. You die often and need to hit the continue/start button fast.
FYI, the only requirement for the Sinden light guns is the white border. It doesn't matter the tilt of the screen or whether pixels are smooth or well-defined.
Two Sinden lightguns alone would cost $220, and wouldn't include rumble.
You could always drop an old PC or Pi4 in the cabinet to solve your issues with the number of games and the filters. It wouldn't solve your problem with the guns not being attached to the control panel, but it would be easier to accept.
sinden guns are worth it for that price $330 with rumble that includes shipping..

This is still one of my all-time favorite games... The dream is to own a full size arcade cabinet of this game. I liked "operation wolf" as well but this was the one that "ate" most of my allowance.

Just noticed they didn't quite use the right font on the T2 logo. The 2 is especially odd. I have a lot of T2 stuff so it stuck out to me. Cool cabinet otherwise!! I think removing the softening filter, fixing the logo font, and coloring the guns to be like the original would set it over the top though.
Great review but I dont think I'll buy it mainly down to the fact that it's only one game. I would be so happy though if Arcade 1up create a House of the Dead cabinet. My favourite shooting arcade game

Besides the Ninja turtles arcade game this one looks like the funnest one I've seen so far. Better even than Street fighter 2. Doesn't surprise me one bit that this would be a very expensive arcade 1up product. Besides stopping off at an arcade the only way I was ever able to play this was on the Sega Genesis with the controller. On that system I would actually prefer the controller over the menacer though. Like seriously once you figure out it's possible to beat the whole game including the good ending with the controller. Only level that's ever a pain in the butt is to pick up level where the HKS fly above you but then that one is probably the biggest pain in the butt on any version
All of these t2 cab reviews make the reticle look extremely floaty compared to your actual gun movements. Can you confirm that there is no lag or floatiness?

Terminator 2 is in my top 5 arcade games. I want this cabinet, but I’m still on the fence due to the price and no other games. I have space for only 1 more cabinet and may wait for a Daytona or House of the Dead, assuming they have more than 1 game...

For what you're paying, there should be a bit more monitor real estate with the Sinden guns and border (which I'm not a fan of, feel they're really cheaply made and reaction isn't the best).
I've said it and I'll say it again, I tip my hat to them for giving us renditions that are no longer made but the quality and those of us who don't have a ton of space is best served with a multicade and guns attached to it.

T2 arcade is a big footnote for arcade machines! It was everywhere back in the day, and it was so cool! After being able to beat this game in emulation, I have to say that in my opinion, it isn't the best game. It is a serious quarter muncher that is designed to steal your quarters. The 2 parts you mentioned that can be failed regardless of how many quarters you use are in my opinion somewhat tedious and not a whole lot of fun. Then the final fight with the T1000 isn't very fair either. Sure, it was an arcade game, and some were like that, but when you compare this game to Revolution X, I think it falls short.
Revolution X gets made fun of because it is cheezy with Aerosmith, but in my opinion, it is the better game. It doesn't have unfair parts like T2 and just to me feels like it had a little more time worked on it. Too bad they couldn't have included Revolution X with this game, but that would be another bit of licensing.
The helicopter parts and the final fight are tedious, but beatable if you have enough patience to keep the focus, and of course you have to have lots of coins. Both helicopter pursuits are much easier to beat with two players. Endless coins (free to play mode) give you endless retries. Boss figtht is annoying, confusing and clumsy, but still fun to play with two players. I have a quite fond memories with the game. Right after I had bought the arcade game (the original one) we threw a small office party where I finished the game twice without a pause. Of course the machine was set on free to play mode.
The T-2 Cabinet was actually bigger than the other Cabinets because it flared out because of the gun holsters

If you want quality just save up for a megacade and customize it. They aren't cheap but you'll get what you want and get over 50k games with guns and 4 player pedestal. It cost us roughly $4500 but is everything we could've wanted
I remember pumping tokens by the hour in the original arcade version at my local arcade.
This is definitely a fine game, and very cool machine to own. I have it on my Mame machine too. But even if I didn't, I'm not sure so it would be justified for me to spend $700 on this however, though more power to those who got, and are happy to have an arcade replica of T2. I really hope that the great Terminator: Salvation arcade game could one day get released via Arcade 1Up if that were ever possible someway, somehow, and know I'd definitely get it in a heartbeat if so too!

I disagree with you when it comes to filtering. It's truly a personal preference. I personally can't stand when games look pixilated and blocky which I thought was a major issue with first gen A1up cabinets. Maybe it's because I've grown up playing arcade games on old blurry scanline tv's.
A1up should make filters an option like they did with the Golden Axe cabinet. That would satisfy everyone.
The games weren't meant to be blown up to the resolutions we have today, so yeah, they tend to suffer for it. Filtering is a good way to get them looking how they were originally supposed to. I think minimalistic 8-bit graphics can look good with sharp pixels, but not this more detailed style.

Thanks for that thoughtful review...you really touched upon all that is good, bad and ugly about the T2 A1Up cabinet. I just cannot get over how foolish those toy guns look in the hands of an adult. Sure, they would be sufficient for young humans, but that community doesn't care much for these types of games.
This is a "toy" yet with a price tag and nostalgia that will only attract big boys...and the quality should reflect that. IMO, the controls are "cheesy" (not to mention, non-authentic), only one game and a 17" monitor. I would have only ever considered this if it included Revolution X. Therefore, I will remain happy with my A1Up "Frankencabinet" where I can play every retro and modern light gun game on a 32" screen. Heck, I just might build a pedestal and purchase a fixed, potentiometer gun where I can play T2, Operation Wolf and Revolution X with a heck of a lot more authenticity.

After getting Big Buck Hunter, I feel they definitely need to increase the monitor size for light gun games. It's just too small. And I can't remember, did the original T2 arcade game have crosshairs? Is there an option to turn them off in the menu on the A1Up?
Yes it did the original arcade didn't have lightgun but rather fixed positional guns.
They need to do time crisis or house of the dead if they want me to spend that much

In the arcades back in the day t2 always wanted a dollar to play. Passed it up. I could play mk and mk2 at Walmart for a quarter.
An analog joystick would have felt more like the arcade. Since that's what the arcade was but in the shape of a gun.

I bought it as a pre-order but have a problem with the gun calibration. I think it's me.... That I might be doing something wrong. Can you do a video on how to calibrate the guns? Or maybe give me aum tips on calibrating them. I reached out to Arcade 1Up, and they just gave me the same directions from the booklet. Nice, if I lost it, but not nice, if I'm the actual problem. They are at the stage with me of proof of purchase and a video of the game play, to maybe ship another gun controller out. That is still not good if it is me, doing something wrong. Sorry this is so long of a comment.

Arr memories on first arcade shooters I played as kid at arcades. But am in UK I remember guns be both grey and nit red and blue.

This was one of my favorite games in the arcade when I was a kid. If I had the room in my house I'd absolutely pick it up. But these cabinets, even at 3/4 scale is far too big for a smaller house like I have. If the lightgun tech works well then I think it's kinda a win. I'm OK with them not creating the experience exactly if the experience is better, but I guess that may be subjective here.
I find it amusing people actually think these are 3/4 scale. I put one of these next to my full size 2 player cabinet and it looked like a toddler standing next to Shaq. Cheap, thin mdf, and if you blow on them they tip over. A1UP'S were just cheap toys, and now they are expensive cheap toys.

17” monitor was an issue for Buck Hunter - guessing the same is true for T2.
I got my control panel signed by Robert Patrick. I love the movie and have nostalgia playing the arcade cabinet, so I’m happy with my purchase. I caught on sale for $299.99 (I think from Best Buy). Plus, I’m a big fan of Sinden, so this was an easy purchase for me.
Hell, if they do a Ghost Squad cab with the saveable progress and gun feel intact, I'd buy it if it was the only game on the cab. It'd be so awesome to have it that way. As it is, all I can do is play it on the wii.
