Taxes are much lower in Virginia, I currently live in VA and previously lived 40+ years in MD. Education is better in VA and regulations are better, less burdensome in VA. Go VA!

What are your favorite areas in VA? Any places you still like in MD?

I Commute almost daily from MD to VA, in relations to traffic, given that I drive a company Van, the toll roads is a blessing in VA, really great infrastructure, MD needs to improve in that area

For sure, if I wasn’t paying for it, that would always be my first choice. MD is way behind on the infrastructure

5:30 Taxes is a must know. If you live in DMV area, all other categories like politics, economy, parks and recreation, traffic etc are about the same.

Taxes are a must know, but many of the other categories are significantly different. I didn't even cover basic things like going to the grocery store to get beer and wine. You can do that practically anywhere in VA but hardly anywhere in MD. For Parks and Rec, nothing compares to what is available in Arlington. I'm sorry but there are many differences between all jurisdictions in the DMV other than taxes.

Gotcha. I'm glad you like the channel! I do have friends and family in Va Beach / Chesapeake. I don't know how you deal with that tunnel traffic.

Shocked you didn't mention anything about the Metro or public transit.. Even during the traffic segments

I just moved back to VA from Ft. Lauderdale. NOVA/DC traffic is laughable.

As for higher education, UVA is ranked higher than any other college in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Virginia also has more in the way of beaches, considering the size of Virginia Beach. There are pockets of liberalism, outside of NoVa, like Charlottesville.

Does Arlington and Alexandria have lower income and property tax than Bethesda, Silver Spring, or Rockville? I currently live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, but would like to be closer to DC for work.

I actually covered this specifically in another video here around the 4:25 mark: th-cam.com/video/w9LXnFW4JpI/w-d-xo.html. The VA side will be less for you on the tax front, but keep in mind the properties do on average cost more than the MD side. I would focus too on what your commute would be like from each area as that will effect your day to day life as well. Let me know if you need anything else!

@@livingindc Having lived on both sides, I would say total taxes are a wash for the average income. As you point out, MD has the county income tax and VA has the Personal property tax plus as you also point out - houses tend to cost more on the VA side and property taxes will be more. One thing I want to add about colleges - in addition to having more instate choices in VA, in terms of UMD, its become harder and harder for instate kids to get in as MD wants to get that out of state tuition.

Remove Nova and their nonsense ideals, and VA is unbeatable.
