Tied this fly a year ago...I made a few at the time but didn't get the chance to try it out till last week. Brilliant....5 rainbows one after the other dead drifting it...won't be out of my box now Thankyou Alec
Thanks for the feedback Jonny , your the 3rd person this week saying they have had great results fishing the NOTHING fly , it really starts fishing well from may up until late autumn, have fun , keep me updated as to how you get on over the summer 👍🎣🐟
Hi Alex, I tied up a few of these I we the winter and forgot about them! I was out fishing over the weekend, flat calm, really warm, trout sipping on the surface. Tried all the usuals Suspender, top hat etc. and was losing hope. I tied on a nothing fly and it was like a magnet! Great fly thanks for sharing.
Hello My friend, It's very kind of you to show us this fly after all the success you've had with it. I tie my own flies, too, often trying my own designs. It's so pleasing when they are successful. I use a bluebottle green type chenille with black, similar to your peacock herl. It's surprising how much trout love that bluebottle green with black. I make beetles in a similar way, and the trout love them. Thank you, Ian.
Thanks Ian, it is a very good fly from June until late Autumn, it cover NOTHING in particular but trout take it for all sorts of small black bugs , I have had messages from around the world from guys catching well on thier local waters .👍🎣🐟
@alecharveyfishingandflytying Hello Alec, Thank you for your reply, it's great to hear from you. I'm glad you've had replies from all over the world. That's great. I used to fly fish a lot, going to North Wales twice a year, to fly fish the Llyns, mainly Brenig. I absolutely loved it. I'd take my fly tying kit so I could tie anything I needed while I was there, depending on what was hatching and knocking about. I lost my father in 2017, and my life changed. I have fished since, though I've just lost my way with it all, a little. I tie sometimes for other people if I know they're going fishing. I enjoyed watching you tie. I find it very settling. When I was a young boy, I used to stand behind my father and watch him tie. That was how you learned back then. There was no Utube. Best wishes, my friend, Ian.
Hi Alec. Fished this fly at Sharpley Springs the other night. The trout were not interested in it on the surface. As soon as I sunk the fly in the surface film they were hammering it. A love it me.
Hi James, that's the beauty of this fly, you can target fish when they are taking flies off the top but they also work drifting across the breeze and great just sub surface using a figure of eight 🎣🐟
Great success today on my club water, brown trout reservoir fishing. Plenty moving, tried suspender buzzers, CDC not getting much attention then put on my freshly tied nothing flies and me and my buddy both took 8 each over rest of the session along with many more missed takes!! Brilliant fly. Had both plain and hot butt version both doing the damage
This month is when the NOTHING flies starts to fish really well, and it will continue to do so right up until the end of October, depending on the weather. Thank you for the update, and keep on catching 👍🎣🐟
Thanks Reg, it has worked well for me on many lakes in the UK, I have not tried it on rivers but cannot see why it will not catch especially if small black flies are on the water 👍 Please let me know how you get on when fishing it 🎣🐟
Just walked in from a day at Eyebrook. The last hour fish started showing themselves taking emergers. On went the Nothing fly for the first time. 2 fish in 2 casts, 3 more to the next plus 2 got off. All in 45 minutes. I my hst to you, my tophat of course lol. They have also been very efffective on Eyebrook and Draycote. Thanks Alec.
That's brilliant Steve, they are so simple but catch shed loads of fish. They will catch from now right up until late autumn. If your on Facebook will you do me a favour please and put a post on about about it. Tight lines, keep catching on NOTHING 🤣🤣🎣🐟
A chap posted on Facebook about tying your flies on Sunday i think. He got your name wrong calling you Alex. Asking if people thought they would catch I commented the tophats had proved themselves at Draycote and Eyebrook. I never take photos of my fish as I don't lift them out of the water to unhook them and to be honest I am a bit shy of showing my fly tying.
That's great John, it is catching so many fish at the minute all over and it will work right up to late autumn if they are feeding near or on the surface, Please let me know how your doing in future trips 👍🎣🐟
Cheers Robert, they will start catching really well from now right up to start of the winter, any midge hatches or small black flies that are blown onto the water, this simple little fly is deadly. 👍🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying I definitely will! I have a weeklong fishing trip up in the mountains (I live in Colorado) coming up and I think these will work extremely well!!
Terence, please share it with your friends and on Facebook please, I nearly didn't post this pattern because it has been a great competition fly for me for some years now 👍🎣🐟
great simple fly Alec fish thrunton quite a bit so will try it next time out ,but what diameter leader and make would you use ,cheers keep the videos coming
Hi Alec enjoyed tying this fly i am quite a novice but found it relatively easy even for me, two things how would you fish it, and what length is the tail of the fly thank you.
Hi Roland , the fly is easy to tie and catches lots of trout , the tail is just a few mm long as I tie them on size 20 and 18 carp hooks . You can fish them casting to rising fish or drift them across the surface, and the fish will come up blind and take them . You can also slowly figure of eight them just subsurface and the fish will readily take them. Check my fishing videos using them, and you will see me using them and catching fish.👍🎣🐟
Alec I am just new to fly tying im going to have a go at tying the nothing fly when you said you folded the black wool over twice so just ontop of itself ? There are certain times of the season the resevoir I fish the fish are ontop but not interested on most patterns I put at them but Im sure this will work 👍
Hi Steve, yes you fold the areo wing over on its self, this material is your buoyancy for the fly, you then use floatant (gink) or what ever is your preference when fishing it. Keep them in small sizes and you will definitely catch on them, you need light tippet 3 - 4lb if you use to heavy tipped the fish will look at your fly and turn away, good luck👍🎣🐟
@@alecharveyfishingandflytying Thanks Alec, please carry on making the videos, I've not been much this year (too much work!) but they are just about keeping me going!😃🎣

100% spot on, every fly is a variation of another, this is just an example of someone trying to put your fly down and you see this all the time on youtube, jealousy and a bit clueless.
Hi Robert, it's really simple but deadly, it's Teimco areo dry wing and green peacock herl. Its important to use the areo wing because it keeps the profile slim and floats really well 👍🎣🐟
Alec, gonna tie a few of these up, what sort of length are you leaving the tail, and you said you folded over twice on the aero, when i do that the bulk is massive?
When fish are rising to small flies on the surface or in the surface film, at this time of year its normally very early mornings or the last couple of hours before dark 👍🎣🐟

Alec, tied a couple for Crynant fishery tomorrow, will let you know how they performed.
Please do Mike 👍🎣🐟
I enjoyed the video, if I use an 18 size hook what streanth of leader would I use?

Yes, light tipped is required 👍🎣🐟

Make sure you use the Tiemco areo wing material in fine 👍🎣🐟

You can, but it is not as good as using the Areo wing material 👍🎣🐟
Love it.
Hi Alec, just wondering what leader/ tipper do you fish with such a small fly and yet still be able to land the rainbows ok?
6lb soft plus and 6lb soldarini fluorocarbon 👍🎣🐟
This is just a variation of a shipman’s buzzer with peacock herl for body
Every fly is a variation of something , but my Shipmans are totally different to this fly in size and profile 🎣🐟

Hi Alec could you substitute Alpaca for the Aero Wing ? Just tried it and it sits like a cork .
Never used anything other than Areo wing Anthony, the reason being its fine material and floats great in the surface film.👍🎣🐟
Alec, gonna tie a few of these up, what sort of length are you leaving the tail, and you said you folded over twice on the aero, when i do that the bulk is massive?
You use the thin aero wing and fold it over once, the tail is quite short 👍🎣🐟
brilliant . 😊

When fish are rising to small flies on the surface or in the surface film, at this time of year its normally very early mornings or the last couple of hours before dark 👍🎣🐟
Just looking at that I know your right about it catching fish 👍 do you ever fish as a team letting them sink more like a nymphs
