Hi , Ben . Thanks for your comments. It is much appreciated. 👍🏻 The foam top hat suspender buzzer is a brilliant fly from spring to autumn. It's particularly effective for sipping trout when they taking buzzers trapped in the surface film just before they are about to hatch. Regarding the use of cdc shuttlecocks, compared to top hats . The top hat patterns fish much better than cdc version when it's calm conditions . There is a good video on my channel explaining the difference exactly. Peter Appleby ( top Expert in the UK )gives a master class in this top hat method of fishing , please check it out and hopefully this will help . Some of the problems you mention may be the hook selection, we find hanak 230bL hooks are perfect for top hats , they sit the fly at the correct 45 degree angle in the surface film and not straight up and down . Also a good floatant needs to be used to soak the high density foam part of the fly . Tight lines Ben 👍🏻🎣🐟

Thank you Trevor, I try and help any new people into the sport , as much as possible, with my limited knowledge. When I started fly fishing in my mid fifties, it was a total new world of fishing compared to the 35 years of competitive sea angling I did around the country. Hi Robert, I don't use leader rings on my tippet, I just use droppers when using multiple fly set ups. There is no particular reason for me not using them , it's just the way I have always done it. If it makes it easier for you to attach droppers then use then , you will still catch no problem as long as they are the small ones. Tight lines 👍🏻🎣🐟

Thanks Alex. Bought a couple tapered leaders when dre dries make sense and thought I'd put a ring on the end to save cutting the leader all the time when changing flies.😮

That makes sence when your using a dry fly set up , for better turn over and presentation. ​@robertalexander7286

There is the fly tying guild which meetvat Dinnington on a Tuesday night once a month . They have different people tying on the night. Very friendly bunch 👍🏻🎣🐟

Get some tied up in black , olive, and brown . You will definitely catch on them right now 👍🏻🎣🐟

Yes , that's what it is , and trout over here, like to eat them as well, especially when fish are feeding down near the bottom 👍🏻🎣🐟

I am sure you will catch other types of fish with this fly , I have not had problems with short strikes , as I fish it slow , the fish tend to suck it in no problem , the mini zonker is soft and they tend not to refuse it .👍🏻🎣🐟

Flappers have been good for many, many years now during the winters , give it a swim you will definitely catch 👍🏻🎣🐟
