JHGYGI is a nylon acoustic journey, laden with tranquil flute and vivid lyrical imagery of the beautiful Australian country-side.
It marks the start of an important personal shift for me, towards being more grateful for life, as opposed to resenting, blaming life and others for unhappiness.
The track is a wide-spread call to wake up too ‘just how good’ life is every day. A reminder to disregard the search for more, and appreciate what is already here; to be content with the way life is in any given moment.
The top of my page in my journal had the title ‘Imagery’. It was after our cancelled Australian tour, and I was exploring different ways to keep creative and keep active mentally. At the time, it was a simple exercise in listing down all the things that made me thankful to be alive. The things I was grateful for, that I to this day am trying to say thank you for far more often.
Close to the time of writing JHGYGI, I sprawled back through old journals trying to find inspiration for a new EP (which will be released in May 2021) and I was shocked. The things I were writing about, just were so blown out of proportion. To look at them now, I’m not sure I was seeing life clearly for years. If there was ever one thing that become more apparent, it’s that ‘you can only see, what you truly believe’. This formed the outro of the song, which also states ‘you will only receive, what you’re ready to receive’, which is a little note; the sky is the limit if you're not holding yourself back.
Instrumentally, we hit some new territory with this one. This is the first track we’ve been able to sneak some magical flute on, thanks to our talented friend Mark Turner. It really transports the song to another place when it floats in.
With Wayan Dana on double bass and Joe Franzone on the brooding drums in the outro, I feel as though everyone has gifted something super unique to this track. It’s a step back towards the more complex guitar of the first and second EP’s we ever released, and has a special place in our hearts.
