This style of wooden planes is hand down my favorite for day to day use. Nothing else quite like. There are times when cast iron planes will do better job, but these are so light and frictionless that they just glide throuth the wood. By the way, while you dont need to wax the sole, there is noticable difference in ease if you do and since they are so light you cant sort of affect the thickness of a shaving by applying less pressure on them. Curious to see what you think of them when you give them a go.

Hi Petr. That all sounds great! The wooden planes I do use all have that lovely quality of light weight and low friction. I'm fascinated to try them out.

@@faceedgewoodworking Today I tried one on a shooting board and suprisingly, it is kind of better than my no. 5 for it. Gripping it is much easier and somehow the low weight is not an issue at all. Might be worth trying it out.

@@petrsidlo7614 thanks! I truly look forward to trying them out. They are quite different from what I'm used to.

The sole on the one you mentioned as maybe being teak is lignum vitae I believe. Not 100% but that is the normal premium upgrade on German planes (ECE and Ulmia). I have one and looks just like that.

Thank you! That makes sense. Lignum would make a very hard sole indeed. It's nice to hear feedback from those that use them.
