this mod is amazing but there's obviously some things missing. The coins could be subsituted for Rings, and the Stars changed to the Chaos Emeralds, then it'd be true sonic meta mayhem. Id love to see Bowser replaced with Robotnik as a heavily modified Boo boss. that'd be awesome.

@@J.Crooner I got it to work yesterday! It needs to be patched to a specific version of the mario64 rom. Strangely the hack runs perfectly on my actual N64 console via everdrive cart but it won’t launch via emulation using Project64.... I prefer original hardware anyway but just weird it doesn’t load on the emulator for some reason
Sonic is fast (I'll give him that), but in this game, his speed can be a bit of a disadvantage when it comes sudden stops, cut and turn corners while running, and the camera can be a slight issue working with him. And swimming? He can skim on the surface of the water while running, but sinks like an anchor as usual. On the positive side, his jumps and ground pounds work different than Mario's for a change of venue, can climb hills and inclines better, and can handle (some) gravity better upon landing.
I'm pretty sure the base running speed is the same as mario, sonic just gets progressively faster the longer he runs. I dont see how this would be a problem for the platforming.
I think they need to slow sonic down… drastically. All this one button boost into infinity is old and single handedly because the biggest detriment to the franchise. If we want boost make it a reward for being skillful at playing the game or obtained through grinding upgrades… idk but that speed for free is trash

One day I want to see a Mario & Sonic crossover game, not like another olympics/sports game, more like a nice big 3d/2d plattformer or atleast a party game or something like that. Sadly I feel like this will never happen (and if it will, then "only" a party game)
I now understand so many years later that I was playing the game wrong from the start. The reason I died so many times wasn’t be cause I was bad at the game. It’s because was shipped wrong. This was and clearly is a Sonic platformer.
If Sonic and Mario switched worlds, it would be chaotic. Sonic running at the speed of sound and destroying everything, putting all SM64 speedrunners to shame and giving Summoning Salt one hell of a video to make. Mario BLJing in a world that wasn't built to sustain it, so the entire fabric of the Sonic universe collapses into itself.
I would love to see a replay of this sense there have been so many changes to the mod, like Sonic characters taking the place of the Toads, Master Emerald shards rather than Power Stars, rings are there now instead of coins… and enemies have been swapped for badniks.
I was kinda hoping that for the wing cap he would've changed into Super Sonic. But then there's loads of little changes that could be made to make it more Sonic-y. It is however still very awesome 👍

On the plus side, Sonic is faster than Mario so more can be done I guess. Plus at the 52:49 mark, Sonic did something Mario could never do. He ran on water!!! If Yuji Naka hadn't been such a dick about his precious Nights engine we very easily could've had that (he refused to let Sonic Xtreme be developed using the same 3D rendering methods Nights was gonna use, and in the end the game was cancelled because it wasn't turning out very good, so they settled for Sonic R instead.) It's such a shame, because I think Sonic in the Nights engine would've blown Mario 64 out the water. Imagine being so protective of your new creation you screw over your old one along with his home platform...
