- 1993 Dodge Ram first Gen 5.9 Cummins. This truck has been outfitted out by a camper company and has a full size sleeper on the back of the cab! I have never seen anything like this and honestly do not know much about the rig other than it is soooo cool! Today we will be trying to get the old 5.9 intercooled diesel to fire up and hit the road once again.

Старая классика или даже масл кар..как я люблю Американские машины..Господи храни Америку и ее автопром❤
That's a sweet rig so when you gonna sell it to me because it will go good with my black 1979 Dodge 350 with a 440 it almost looks the same but my back looks a little smaller that yours but that is a really sweet truck
Just like flat bed fast and furious movie down 👇 in Mexico
Any plans on selling it
How do you define Abandoned?
wish like hell I could find abandoned trucks like this
They’re out there
Same
I know where one of these are
Florida.
Biggest question. Do you actually look for them?
Some serious potential there.
Totally worth restoring and customizing.
Sounds like a plan!
Facts
That is a sweet ol truck. Sounds fantastic. Cleaned up surprisingly well.
That’s what I’m saying!
Didn’t need any soap
That truck was converted by Federal Coach Company. What an awesome truck that is
Yep! I cannot find any info on it though
Jealous in a good way of you and your pops firing that thing up. Y’all’s smiles were contagious
Appreciate it man!
I can’t tell you how perfect this truck is, I’m trying to start a freight hauling company starting with a diesel dually, I’ve been looking everyday for the perfect rig and this is it.
Would be great for hot shots
Mega cabs and mega roofs as a retro ride is badass
For sure!
I miss my first gen so badly. This thing is a beautiful beast.
They’re awesome trucks!
what a gem, hope it gets restored good shit man
Will get some love for sure!
This truck is a national treasure I love it
Appreciate it
@@RealSteelFabricationshow did u find and buy it? Is it for sale?
It's satisfying seeing old things come back to life and really getting moneys worth out of that 5.9, nice job!
Appreciate it!
That is probably the coolest truck I have ever seen. Man what I wouldn't give to get to see that in person
This is automotive history. Thank you for preserving a unique unit.
Our pleasure!
I love these older trucks! Just a beautiful thing
Yes they are!
Awesome find! Never thought it would have cleaned up so nice!👍 Don't let the mileage bother you. I've got a pair of 96 Rams. A 2500 with over 625k miles & a 3500 dually with over 250k miles. Both run strong!! Do check to see if the killer dowel pin has been installed!! Best of luck with this project!!
Wow! 625,000 miles is getting up there. We will check for sure, thanks.
My dad and uncle both bought a pair of 97 Cummins after taking a drive in log buyers Cummins 24v H.O. My dad sold it in 07 and got the newer 6.7 Cummins. The ppl who bought that truck still have it. They've put 2 beds on it, fenders, etc cause of rust. It's still going. We delivered them a tree length load of firewood weeks ago. It's got over 700k. Same engine, trans, rear-end. It was a automatic 4x4 single cab. Uncles was a extended cab 6 speed with a jake brake for pulling trailers. Both had regular service. After the 6.7 was bought the VGT actuator that moves the vanes in turbo went out. He kept it until 2015 and went with 6.4 hemi 4x4 .75 ton. Had new cams from the issue with cylinder deactivation. And trans was rebuilt. 279k. Uncles saw half million miles with no issues. I believe both had the pin issue corrected? I'm not sure. I left for Marines and idr if they got it done or not. Their truck driver had a 95 12v. It had over 500k. Best diesels ever. His log loader had a Cummins for powerplant.
@kitjasabsgabs1830 Someone told me a long time ago that these particular Cummins engines were good for a million miles! I honestly believe it, today! My 2500 is suffering from severe rust issues at the moment. Both vehicles run incredibly well! A buddy of mine is pushing me to do a body swap, but I'm thinking more like doing a rat rod project. Both trucks are 2 wd automatics. I figured going rat rod would keep me from doing any kind of heavy work & give the mechanicals & frame a little longer lifespan. The dually would then do All of the hauling & towing. BTW, I'm a former SEABEE. Thanks for your service!🇺🇸
@@kitjasabsgabs1830 that’s amazing! Can’t believe how many miles the engines are good for
@@roywhitman7109 rust is not their strong suit!
The look on his face of nervous excitement 😂 hoping something don’t break
Lol
My dad had an early 90’s squarebody Chevy dually. Had full wood grain console, with built in tv/vcr that opened up at the rear of the console for us kids in the back. Wooden Interiors were top of the line and so cool in those days. Now when you see one though it looks so ancient.
I may be wrong in the vcr part, because I can distinctly remember there being one of those boomerang looking antennas on top of the cab, so it may have just had tv and whatever channel you could pick up from the antenna/boomerang thing 😂
That old war wagon is a BEAST!
You know it
“Automatic getrag” the getrag is the 5 speed manual that’s in the truck!
Love the truck! The old sleepers are cool rigs. Keep it up.
Thanks for the info!
Hell my ram with the 5.9 just pushed past 300k and still running like a Cadillac and hauling like a freight train.
Zip ties would be proud of the smoke! Definitely would get some “how dare you’s “ from the pollution girl! Love the truck
She rolls some coal! And I bet. Glad you liked it!
Sometimes all that crap a sitting vehicle collects over the years actually ends up protecting the paint from the elements. A good wash, polish and wax/ceramic coat would work wonders here. Nice find.
Preserved it pretty well expect around the roof
293k miles….she’s barely broken in 👊
You got that right
All my projects start off that grimey... I just wish they cleaned up that nice after the first wash. That's a nice ride.
Sure did clean up nicely!
Nice find! Cleaned up wonderfully, Definitely worth fixing up. I've seen these old diesels with over 600,000 miles on them...
Awesome Dodge! 👍
They’re beast!
This truck is exactly what I’m looking for. Complete restoration.
My buddy had a red one that said 7 of 14, it was a 1st gen dodge D350 “cabriolet” on the side and the back seat was electrical fold out to a bed, had interior custom lights a cb setup and a Radar from the shop, thought it was cool
Where was it marked?
There ya go, thats a cummins for you. Invincible engine that will outlast the frame its built on
Both are pretty stout. After 91.5 the frame got beefed up
that is one special truck! gotta love a 12 valve!! Probably are not many of those custom ones made.
I’ve never seen one!
Im not really into dodge/ f truck sized utes (more of a old hilux kinda guy) but man, i think that thing is just coolest! wish we got somthing like that in Australia 🤘🤠👍
It sure is neat! Wish we had more Hilux trucks around here in the states
that truck aint nothing but a good ole boy
Sure is!
@@RealSteelFabrications right jealous of that beautiful rig brother!
@@refrigerator_manmore videos to come!
Tell dad i got that same Gas Monkey Garage shirt! The engine sounds amazng. Congrats guys this is a really nice lookin' rig!
Thanks! Will do!
He found himself a golden ticket.
The pickup of my dreams! It's nearly perfect, just about everything I want except for maybe being a W350 (4WD). That sleeper conversion is the coolest. I so want an intercooled 12 valve.
This is a gem! Also that truck was a powerwasher's wet dream when you first got it
Yes it was lol
My dad has been looking for that exact type of truck. His was wrecked in 1998 and he’s been chasing for one ever since. He just can’t get one for a decent price. He doesn’t mind doing the work to restore it, but people want over 10k for junk with holes in the frame and cab.
Sadly everything is crazy priced now!
That was built back in the early days of "Hot Shotting" when owner-operators first figured out that they could do one way runs for decent money and not have to go through a big company for the work...
A lot of people I knew were into that business... And they made boatloads of cash doing it!
A lot of them hauled classic cars from here to there and would usually pick up another to bring back from their destination or somewhere in the area.
I also knew a guy that hauled those giant wooden swingsets with "forts" on them... He'd haul one from the manufacturer in Kentucky to some place like Colorado, then pick up say a '56 Buick in Colorado and take it to Missouri and then pick up an old camper and haul it back to Indiana on his way home... That four day run would net him about Six Grand... Nothing to sneeze at, especially back in the Nineties!
Great money for sure!
I really like how this truck sits man. Nice find!
Glad you like it
I feel like Derek’s vernacular is trickling into everywhere. I love it. Bat-trees, sparcalators, go handles, you name it.
This truck is gorgeous
Thanks!
Thatll be a great toy hauler man. Cant touch a new comparable diesel for less than 100k. Good find. That rig well do good by you
Couldn't agree more!
Not sure why so many people are mad. They could just not watch it. Good video imo and cool truck saw a second gen just like that for sell here a few months ago.
I don’t mind, love hearing their feedback. Good or bad. Glad you liked it!
This truck is a dream
Absolute barn find good job
Appreciate it
Dude that joker is cleannn 🧼
Appreciate it
I feel like vehicles appreciate this type of stuff 😢
Man that is a good find right there! I hope you bring it back to life.
That’s the plan
This truck is a beautiful piece of engineering. They must have used magical paint on this truck it sure lasted would like to know what they painted it with. Glad you’re restoring it. Lining the bed with weather tech would look really cool and protect it at the same time.
I have a 92 D350 with a very similar conversion except mines a 2 door. That back bed most likely folds up into a regular seat. My truck's has a motor and a switch up in the ceiling. The big box in the ceiling between the two front seats thats open to the back most likely had a CRT from the factory. These conversion dodges are super rare and extremely little is known about them. Western Hauler did make a few, you can check every window and see if any of them have western hauler etched on them. Otherwise ive never been able to find out what company built my conversion and the other 10 or 15 that were exactly like it. Mines up to 1.5 million miles, most of these were hot shot rigs so even though they were driven to the moon and back they received allll the preventative maintenence. Mine was sitting in Oregon for 10 years and had the same type of dirt and grime that this one did. Flew out, got her running right and drove her back to the east coast. It was the trip of a lifetime hahaha. Then I daily'd her for 2 years without many issues!
We have never seen one like this and have figured out most of the wiring issues but not sure how the back seat works. We tested the switch’s on the ceiling but there isn’t any power up there and not sure where it wld come from with out taking it completely apart. Would you know how that would of been wired in?
Thanks
Thanks for the info! 1.5 million miles is amazing! Will see if I can find any markings on who might have done the conversion.
@@RealSteelFabrications he is on the money western hauler is the company but that one you have was a prize truck in the rodeo I bought it from the sec or third owner I put the aussie stacks on and did turn pump 2.5 turns she will pull very well miss the long ugly girl
What was the reason for it to be parked for so long
@@user-xi5lf6rf3h it’s awesome to hear info on it! Anything else done to the motor you know of?
Watching that cleaning was so satisfying instantly subbed
Yay! Thank you!
Awesome find and it looks like y'all are having fun which is the most important part. I love it cannot wait to see more content because as of now I'm subscribed.
Appreciate it! We always have fun, no matter the truck/car
I’m definitely tuning in for more 🙌
More to come!
I wish I could find a abandoned truck like this one I will clean it up for sure especially the inside with the interior I used as a traveling truck since it has a bed in it already love the way it sounds with them stacks on the back and it's a stick shift witch makes it even better
It’s so much fun!
Wow that thing is sick!
That’s what I’m saying!
Never been a dodger fan but this truck is sweet
SO have you been converted...?
They are great to have received that masterpiece of a vehicle. Those trucks are part of the true spirit of America. God save America forever.
It sounds absolutely wonderful and seems to work quite well.👍 A little fix with the interior and look over the brakes and the light, then out on the roads again. 😎🤘
Runs very well! New video tonight!
I remember it well .. elders would get them for trailing new rvs to locations as well as vacation truck along the way .. we had a 94 ford p stroke elderly had this truck ..
Awesome! Thanks for the info
You good 'ol boys got yourselves a real little beauty right there!
Sure do
gawd, the paint amazing for the age!
Right?!
Such as magnificent beast! Don't sell it, whatever you do!
Not yet, going to give it some love and use it
Got to love that pop in the hips when you mention sleeper I caught that😂😂
You know the deal lol
@@RealSteelFabrications 🤣🤣 indeed 🤣🤣
i am a solid ford guy but i think i'v just found my dream truck love it
Dodge>Ford
I had a factory 1983 ram d350 full 4 door long bed. 360 4 barrel with a granny 4 speed. She was a beast
Love the crew cabs
Railroad had a version of this in 4x4 single wheel.
4x4 would set this truck over the top!
Some paint correction and a set of Alcoas and that thing will look pretty dang cool.
I agree!
Man that things almost as long as my truck! This will be a sweet build!
23ft
There is one of these trucks near my house, not with the camper, but you can just tell it's a beast and rare model. Nothing else like it
This is automotive history love it
It sure is!
Good looking rig! Great stuff.
Thanks 👍
great video. cant wait to see what yall do with it. subscribing after seeing this
Thanks! We can’t wait either.
Sometimes the algorithm does good things like popping this video in my fees
I love seeing different stuff like this very cool truck
Appreciate it
Now THAT is a unique and gorgeous 1st gen you got there! She's a beaut! I have 2 of them myself that I will never sell. A 1990 D350 with the 5spd getrag in very good shape and a 1993 W350 4x4 auto that's a rusty winter rat. These engines are so darn simple and tough, they'll outlast us all.
Couldn't agree more!
Охренеть, вот это техника! Мотор - зверь!
Strong motor!
The Factory Truck in the Picture is CUMMINS FIRST SHOW TRUCK AN I SEEN IT IN COLUMBUS INDIANA AT THE AIRPORT PROPERTY THE GUY I WORKED FOR BOUGHT IT an it got worked too it had 2 transmissions put in when he sold it the oil pump was weak I don't know where the thing is now but it had a metal plate that had KONG on it ...............
Word
5.9 first gen Cummins dont die they just wait for the right person to wake them up. I love my 1993 dodge d250, she is old but is a beauty
That’s a sweet truck a 93 1st gen I was 10 years old that year love Cummins engines
Appreciate it
@@RealSteelFabrications your welcome
The 5 -speed WAS the Getrag. the auto wasn't. Just to your comment @ 8:27. I could also tell the turbo bearings were going out based on the spool down whine after a throttle blip. Spent too many years with these old trucks...
Looks like a dodge that wants to be a semi 😅
Very true
For real
Thats a gem brother.
Appreciate it
Badass truck man! Thanks for sharing
Appreciate it!
The vgg hand stuff 10/10
That is a badass truck. It would look badass with 8" lift.
2wd though
Good old Hotshot! Probably was used to haul horses or livestock.
Those trucks could go literally a million miles.👍
You got that right!
Amazing find with that truck.
It sure is!
Now that is a cool old truck
Great find
Sure is!
We need a build series and restore this old girl I got a 86 d250 long beg
More videos to come!
Thing sounds awesome!!
Sure does!
This is a beauty. So much potential
Yep!
Man that is one awesome rig as a first gen dodge ram man myself that’s a dream truck can’t wait to see how it progresses
Appreciate it!
wow incredible, beautiful truck
It sure is!
That's an awesome truck man!!
It sure is!
It’s a hotshot rig. That’s why it has a sleeper. Very cool old pickup. I’m sure those are mostly highway miles.
It may be a choo choo customs heard of that back in the day
They made these conversions?
Nice find. Probably not a camper hauler though. Looks like a competition horse hauler. Gooseneck horse trailer, and a place to sleep during the weekend. Seen a few rigs in the same basic style in the mid west.
There was some log books in it and appeared they did hotshot loads
Very much possible
@@RealSteelFabrications hotshot rig is first thing that popped into my mind. Someone spent way too much oil money on this bad boy 😂
Wow is the cool! I’m not a diesel fan but I’d drive this all day long. The badge on the fender is from the custom builder company. Federal builds limos and other vehicles. If I’m not mistaken, they make most customs for officials including the armor.
Cool! Thanks for the info
If he knew how fragile those getrags are, he wouldn’t be driving it like that.
Love that truck! Super unique.
Appreciate it
Habito en suramérica. Y veo cómo descuidan esas máquinas tan hermosas cuando aquí no se conocen
Glad to have ya! It’s an amazing truck
Dodge did put a Mitsubishi 6 Cylinder turbo diesel in their 1/2 ton trucks back in the 1980s.but they are very rare
Never knew that! Would love to find one
and worse then the isuzu chevy luv or Perkins ford ranger diesels
That would be a Great Project Truck to Restore.
It’ll get fixed up, not for sure how far yet
