    Today I watched your videos about accepting our voices and who we are and what our voice says about us. You are truly an inspiration! It is so true! Being an exercise that uses not only the whole body, but our hearts and souls , singing opens us for great vulnerability; which is daunting, but SO REWARDING when we break past that fear. On one point specifically, it is so true that we don’t have to sing the highest notes (or the lowest or have the widest range) to sing well. Singers of all types have made places in our hearts without being/having the “-est” of anything. Karen Carpenter, Sarah Brightman, Josh Groban, and SO MANY MORE all have the same thing in common, where they didn’t/don’t have the “-est” of anything, because that is not what it’s about, it is that they made the most of the voices they did/do have and with HEART.
    Another point, I agree that we should not try to sound like anyone; that would be derivative. We need variety and the world is more beautiful with our own unique contributions.
    Thank you for the sumptuous food for thought, as well as these wonderful lessons! You’re simply lovely!

      i agree with you completely....it's a matter of bringing out your own unique voice so that you don't sound like some other person...only you.

    Thanks for this video, I've been able to blend my nose and mouth tones using your previous tutorials, but was still getting a few breaks.
    And I just isolated such a break when trying this exercise when trying to sing back down between the A flats, and was still struggling with descends - I was previously doing most of the exercises ascending only which is likely why.

    Thank you, this is very helpful. I have a very low "break" and have a hard time finding music to sing that works with my voice. If I adjust my voice to the song, i feel i'm doing it wrong or not well. Most men who sing Pop have a higher range in their chest voice that I have, so i tend to sing those but the "money notes" (usually near the end) are all in my head voice and sound "wrong" to me. I'm thinking this exercise will help a bit, but i know i have to be okay with MY sound and just make the song sound good, not try to copy... (Do i have this right? Doubt keeps rearing its head!) Thanks!

    Every time i sing high my voice breaks but when i sing low it doesn't lol. But my old choir teacher was convided im a soprano. How do you know if your soprano or alto tho???

    • @thatswhatisaidCA
      @thatswhatisaidCA 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I sing very low (alto) in chest voice, have a low 'break' and get very very high in my head voice. (Most people don't sing soprano in chest voice.) I think these are just categories, and I think they might limit what we think we can sing. Alternatively, I suspect they apply to the natural "easy" part of our voice - but don't let them confine you to a few notes! Good luck!

When I am doing the siren exercises, when my chest voice flips to my head voice, the head voice does not go to the next note on the siren, it actually jumps one octave higher. So I am actually singing through two octaves with a gap in between instead of a one octave siren. What can I do?
