While standing, go the corner of where two walls meet/the apex line... put your nose as close to the apex and try singing... you will hear every nuance/inflection/resonance in your voice and will instantly sing better. This works especially well with common drywall walls. A great place to practice!
So my husband doesn’t have an interest in singing. He has a pleasant sounding voice. He tried this and nailed it in both directions without cracks smooth as glass repeatedly!! I have been singing since before kindergarten but I have such strongly distinct registers and crack and crack !!
I am a vocal coach and I have heard the mixed voice placement described like this. I will say though I think for the tenor and bass voices the slide up is easier. Those voices are strong in the lower registers and soprano/alto voices are stronger in the upper. But this is brilliant. 👏👏
As a vocal teacher, I love your channel and use it a lot, particularly with beginning students. I love the vids on breathing. I use slides like you to address the register transition and feel two other things help: having the students remember their breath support and bringing the resonance into the mask (and therefore out of the throat). Great work, please keep it up!!!
Transitioning from high to low is easiest for me (no voice break). For reference, I’m an alto, and I sing most comfortably between E3 and E4. My natural speaking voice is D3/E3. When singing low to high I experience the most breakage when transitioning from A4 to B4.
Do you have a lot of air coming through on those notes? You may not be getting enough cord closure. Try adding a “nah” sound to your words to get the cord closure.
I like how you are direct and excited in your presentation without being too “in yo face”The golden thread you mentioned was an interesting insight and a good clue. Where is your accent from? I was guessing South African or European? Thanks for the intel singgeek
High to low is easier for me, my speaking voice has a lot of ping where my head voice naturally has none, so the change is easier going into the resonance because i gradually lose it going up. This highlighted a long standing issue for me and confirmed I'm on fhe right track with focusing on the CT muscles at the moment and working out the balance from their side.
Going from lower to higher is way easier for me. I can definitely hear the transition, but my voice doesn't crack like when I go from high to low. It really helped when I opened my mouth on the inside to make the transition smooth going from lower to higher. I did it! But I absolutely can't go down without a break. The only improvement is my voice doesn't crack. :P
thanks for the great explanation! in my case it’s easier to go from high to chest voice using this resonance than the opposite (chest to head voice) I don’t know why but this way I can connect the registers easier.
Low to high is easier. Thank you for all your videos. I learn a different genre of singing Indian classical but your videos help me bring my voice iin the mask. Thank u
Baritone here with a break that seems to move from day to day! lol. Sometimes it's as low as D4, sometimes A4. For me, it's WAY easier going from low to high than the opposite.
Male baritone with some tenor, age 59, it's easier for me to go from chest to head voice. I wasn't ever able to do this until my mid to late thirties. But I never had a vocal coach until my late forties.
As a voice teacher, I find for most people (female voices particularly) find high to low easier! Once you master high to low, you can start with low to high.
Low to high is easier for me now, but it wasn't always thus. I used to really struggle going up smoothly, but found it flipped (no pun intended!) as I got better at going up.
I'm a guy. Going from high to low was easier because I could clearly identify what adding resonance is in headvoice. Question: is "adding resonance" the same thing as "raising the soft palate'?
I find it much easier to from low to high. I used to crack going both directions but now I can control low to high but still not high to low. Not trying to learn to sing, I'm actually trying to learn how to voice act multiple characters. I have to play both a deep voiced male British lucifer character and a sweet high pitched voiced American female character and they are talking to each other... I'm finding it very hard and thought this video might help.
I am definitely not a pro singer, but I do sing and do enjoy singing. I am recovering from a cold, so I haven’t really practiced all the techniques here, but I did try one oooo while moving my jaw back and down and WOW!!! What a huge and noticeable difference!!! Thank you! 🫶🏻
Voice Teacher here. This is a good “mix basics” video. That being said, I wish you would touch on the lateral cricoarytenoid muscle and producing a mix by stretching the vocal folds and tilting the larynx, without having to focus too much on resonance. I have the resonant mix mastered pretty well I feel. Regarding the resonance focused mix, outside of pop and classical though it’s usage is limited I feel. It would be interesting to have you touch on the modal mix and vowel modifications needed to bring the modal mix up.
Do you teach voice lessons? I'm not sure all I a sure of is my head voice is weaker but now since you shows us how to get more resonance in our head voice then it's better already. Resonance = 1 divided by 2 pi root LC🙂 That is true but seriously; my problem is sound and articulation.
i can explain my fear of singing. when i was 8 my church choir director singled me out and asked me to stand up and sing a passage solo acappella i was a shy kid and embarrassed. i walked out and stigmatized and feared singing ever since.
I can talk but struggle to sing. Used to do Solos etc but can’t even sing songs now. Have been to Drs. Medically I’m ok. Any exercises to start off ok? I appreciate any help❤
Depends which time I try and the exact sound I try with as to which direction the break feels more 'awkward', like there's a 'lump' to get over. Sometimes up, sometimes down. I don't know until I get there how awkward it's going to be either, like I can't feel what's happening until it goes wrong. The stronger the resonance, the worse it is when it goes wrong if anything, like I'm locking myself into chest or head voice, not into resonance. Weird.
Please don't take this personally. I'm also working on my Mix Voice, and some TH-cam videos here, including yours, have one thing in common. You explain everything wonderfully, but what about the breath support? I don't see anything there. Without that, you end up very quickly in the head voice.
If you’re not using correct breathing technique you shouldn’t be worried about mixed voice You need to work on that as it’s the foundation of correct singing
I have trouble getting a smooth transition when I am coming down from head to chest voice. Going up from chest to head voice I find much easier to do smoothly
I have like a 3 note range in chest voice. Not 3 octaves (yeah right). No, literally 3 half steps. Alright maybe like 7 max. A#3 is highest. Then it breaks and jumps an entire 5th to D#4. Oh well, it only skipped all the notes in the middle of the piano, nobody ever needs those. Conclusion: Unmixable. Unusable really. Some people just shouldn't sing. Glad I watched this.
I have a very naturally raspy chest voice and a weak, quiet head voice. My chest voice is full of so much rasp beyond my control and I've been trying to obtain a mixed voice for so long now. Do I need a clear chest tone before I can mix with my head voice?
And if, in the opposite, I started singing with my head voice and I feel very comfortable there, but, I can't do mixed voice because I don't even know hoy to access comfortably to my chest voice (sometimes even it hurts a little when I trie to sing low tones and my vouce sounds totally unstable at that register and kind of singing). Please, some advice?
Hi Susan, Thanks for your question. I talk about it at around 07:55 into this video: th-cam.com/video/zM2GDKDLr8s/w-d-xo.html I hope it answers you question 😊
hey there, im already pretty comfortable im my mix but i struggling noticing where I want my sound to come from for open vowels, should it be from my nose (not nasally) or from the back of my mouth?
Hi Rachel, open vowels are tricky. If I’m understanding your question correctly I recommend you lean towards the middle of the roof of your mouth. A good way to practice getting your open vowels less “spread out” and more focused is to produce a closed vowel and then glide over to an open vowel while focusing on the same resonant placement, e.g. oo to ah. Hope it helps 😊
@Singgeek thank u! the reason I had this doubt was because whenever I saw people like ariana grande use they're mix, they usually looked like they were smilin but had a pretty full open mouth
For me going from low to high is easier!! Thank you so much for this video!!! 💙
Thanks for answering my question😊 It’s easier for me to go from low to high as well!
same here

I have been singing since before kindergarten but I have such strongly distinct registers and crack and crack !!
Same!😩
I've watched 20 other video's. This was the best one. Keeping the resonance on both sides seems like the key. Yeah baby!!
ok, but Sia's voice cracks are work of art! More like intentional breaks, so full of emotion!
Indeed.
I am a vocal coach and I have heard the mixed voice placement described like this. I will say though I think for the tenor and bass voices the slide up is easier. Those voices are strong in the lower registers and soprano/alto voices are stronger in the upper. But this is brilliant. 👏👏
Hi Chris, I really appreciate the input from a fellow vocal coach😊 Thanks for sharing!
So glad to see you back 😮
It’s so great being back making geeky singing videos😊 Thanks for watching!

Hi Perry, I’m so happy to hear that you like the video 😊 you guessed correct! I’m from Denmark (Europe). Where are you from?
Was just having issues with my chest and head voices while recording a new song and then you came along. Thank you! Needed that! :) Great lesson.
Really want to express my gratitude. For your channel your hints and your professionality. Be BLESSED.
The fact that I didn’t need to finish the video or even go halfway to fix my problem. Thank you

A little bit easier to navigate from low to high. Thanks again.
I never struggled with this until I turned 62. So thank you for this tutorial I wish I saw this two years ago!

For me it's so much easier going from high to low. I almost have no crack going from high to low, but a very clear crack going from low to high.
Thanks for sharing😊. I wish you good luck with the practice Stella68695
What an exelent teacher 👍
Brilliant class. Easy to understand and practice ❤️ thank you so much

Hi Aureus, it’s so cool to hear about what’s easiest for you. Thanks for sharing 😊
I've learned a lot from you. Glad you're making new videos. (Edit: I find going low to high to be easier)
oh my god she's a saint..underrated channel, getting the course in the soon future :)
Thank you so much!!!! This is really helpful
Low to high is always easier for me

Thanks for sharing Renu 😊 for me low to high is easier as well. I’m so happy to hear that you like the videos. I wish you happy singing!
Fantastic lesson, and channel. Always informative, well explained, and encouraging. Thank you!!
I’m so happy to hear Greg. Your feedback means a lot😊 I wish you happy singing!
WOW! Most singing tutorials doesn't work really for guys but this really helped out! I am impressed! (going from chest ti head was easier)
I've started learinng Chinese and I use your video to train my voice to make tones 😊
Thanks!! You really help me a lot. Greetings from Argentina! ❤️
Omg a bunch of very lovely videos how do i find where my passagio comes in?
Going from low to high is easier. Thank you for showing me that it's okay to feel the sticky break and to crack for learning purposes. lol
A 🔊 is the vocal folds, the box the speaker 🔊 is in is the resonator
i am more of an indian classical guy, so learning all these is a bit, i’d say strange.
But i really want to be able to do what you taught here.
Baritone here with a break that seems to move from day to day! lol. Sometimes it's as low as D4, sometimes A4. For me, it's WAY easier going from low to high than the opposite.
Great video! Super helpful! I struggle going from low to high, but I did it on the second attempt! Thank you :)
Amazing! Great work Kaya_Ori 🎶💪Thanks for sharing your win. It makes me so very happy to hear about 😊
low to high is easier, thanks for making this video. It helps me to be a good and a better singer
Male baritone with some tenor, age 59, it's easier for me to go from chest to head voice. I wasn't ever able to do this until my mid to late thirties. But I never had a vocal coach until my late forties.

And i did it like u said but mine didn't break

Wow! NICE channel! Thx for your teaching and advices❣️ Very useful 👍🏻
Your sessions really helps, God bless 🙏
I’m so happy to hear they are helpful. Thanks for letting me know ❤️
down is easier for me!! (i love your videos thank you!!)
Thank you! You are very good teacher
Hello. I'm curious what are the exercises for baritone male to practice/play his Chest voice, Head voice, and Mixed voice.
I couldn't do it until I raised by soft palette (and lowered the layrnx) with the yawning technique.
Thank you for explain mixed voice❤🙏

I found my mix, but very weak, pls teach me more.
You may not believe this. I may be mistaken. But I think I have gotten the switch just watching this video twice! Less than 30 minutes.

Awesome Ronja!
Thank you ma’am
you explain thing so well.
i can explain my fear of singing. when i was 8 my church choir director singled me out and asked me to stand up and sing a passage solo acappella
i was a shy kid and embarrassed. i walked out and stigmatized and feared singing ever since.
I cant wait to drive home lol! I go better from low to high

My videos on mix voice explain the breathing :)
@mj4173 agreed. Without it the rest doesn't even matter much. Breath support is 90% of success. Like really.
I guess im starting to understand it a bit better
I find it easier going down - without warmups, I break going up a lot more than coming down.

I can switch from high to low pretty smoothly but when going low to high, you can easily hear me switch gears for a sec
hi i have a song on youtube call the lord is my shepherd i wont to know if iam singing in mix voice
Is there any way I could communicate with you in a non-public setting?
Hi Robert, you are always welcome to email me at ronjapetersen@gmail.com 😊
For me, going from high to low is easier
Ah where have you been for sooo longggg
Hi Abin, I have been on maternity leave. It’s so great to be back😊 thanks for watching!
God bless
I sometimes get confused between head & mixed voice. 🤯
Descending is always easier for me
Great tx
You're amazing
Thanks Paulo!
How do I find my “passaggio” appoint or area from chest to head then from head to chest please?
Hi Susan, Thanks for your question. I talk about it at around 07:55 into this video: th-cam.com/video/zM2GDKDLr8s/w-d-xo.html I hope it answers you question 😊
