Aww thanks i needed this . I love how you guide us. Three years ago i left my music coaching because of my parents pressure but i really love singing and you help me a lot. Thank you for existing
I like this a lot. I don't know why so me teachers out there are afraid of simply accepting that the nose is a great transition helper between registers.
Love this! So helpful. I have learned more from your videos in a short time than years of singing in choirs where I would pick up small things here and there. My confidence to sing solos is growing immensely, something I always dreaded (I don’t like all eyes on me...lol).
Since I found your lessons My voice jumped to a new level singing songs almost on first try thank you. You are the best teacher giving us the best effective lessons. Thanks a million
That's so much for helping me grow as a singer. Your videos have really lead the way for me to relax into myself and my voice. Your loving guidance is much appreciated.
That's the second video that I'm seeing of you and I'm already in love with the way you teach. So glad that you share all this videos and that I've find you !
I believe you are the best teacher on you tube!!! Your explanation are awesome and you have compassion. You can bring a person singing from 0 to 100 if they listen well enough.
I love your singing videos! Your voice is so free and beautiful. You’re so:generous with your knowledge. Thanks from one who has studied too many years and still struggle to find freedom and balance.
This has been amazing! I'm not finished, im off to work. But breath control and knowing when I do things right is where I struggle. So this has helped me alot. So far. Thank you 😊 you're awesome!
Please everybody reading this who is working on their wind instrument. Take a listen to Aurora from Norway. I recommend : Through the eyes of a child, it happend quiet and Aurora with Bergen philharmonic orchestra
Glad things are better, you seemed really tense last video! You know, you've really made a difference for me. I got Covid and had to learn to breathe again, and did so through your videos. the progress I have had with singing merely from practicing every day has been incredible. Thanks! Love your vids!
Why is this channel everything I need right now ☺️ I am not looking to become professional or anything like that, but singing with purpose again feels so good! (I used to be in choir) thank you for sharing your gift and knowledge ❤️
Thank you Madeleine for this awesome video. and as a non native English speaker, I have a surprise finding that is your pronunciation is super clear, even more clearer than most English language teacher. I think it should accredited to your singing back ground, so you have much better muscle control. Now I use your video as both for singing and English learning, one stone two birds. Thanks again.
Thank you Madeleine 😍 ...Wonderful! I am a total amateur, though a church and choirsinger. And sometimes I bowed my head a bit leaning forward, as I felt I could better control the higher notes. Thanks to you, now I know why! 👏🏻💡 I have been picked out with a few for some solo verses, totally scared as I struggle with the higher tones being more a Mezzo S. So want to improve control and trust in my voice. So this is just what I need. ❤️
Exactly the concept I've been working on. So happy to have SUCH a quality resource in Madeleine Harvey address this when I could use it. It's like I'm blessed. 💚
Will you please get out of my head, Madeleine! 😉 I swear every other video of yours that shows up in my feed without even searching for it happens to address exactly where I am! Thank you for amazing content and sharing your gifts and talents!
I am just 70 and have a weakened , unsteady tone due to lack of singing during co-vid. I want my beautiful bell tone back. These exercises really showed off this weakness. I’m hoping I can improve my voice just like my yoga has improved the strength in my body! I will do this daily.
Your so helpful, i have been looking for a vocal coach online that could teach me how to sing because i never had control over my voice and i could never stop the voice cracks,Thank you so much
B4 is where i lost it and noticed that i was pushing the air forcefully, to get the higher note, i made this exercise for myself when stared learning singing, because i wanted to learn placement of each note, but i was always so lost because i was going on Aaa and i dint know how to do it correctly, this guidance helped so much and i will keep coming back to it, lets see where it takes me in a month
Very cool. It was interesting and news to me to watch the connected placement of each note happen a little bit further forward each time! 🙏 thank you Madeleine!
This is interesting. Especially like the idea of bowing the head and understanding that the nose will take over to put it roughly. I dont know how I'm going to use this with songs but I hope I will give it a try.
Thank u Madeleine for your videos.. i love to follow your instructions. It's clear role model n it's fun. God bless u n your fam with a good health, happiness and prosperity. U are awesome. Thank u very much😊👍👍
I really enjoy your videos. Because of your videos I went from being able to hit C5 and straining at C#5 to Being able to sing G5 and straining at G#5. I was wondering if you could do a video where you explaine how to do a whistle note, and some exercices that can help?
Thank you Madeleine for this video. It is nice to use the ideas I have used to teach wind instruments, including the flute, sorry about your experience, and apply those concepts to my voice. - Justice Constantine
This is a lot of warm ups that I always do on TH-cam with you Madeline that’s what I do in Arcadia with my teacher Nikole is their any new vocal warm up I can do with you
Hi Madeline. Thank you very much for you lessons. They are very very helpful. I practicing on them. Can you please tell me how to make that mix chest and mix head sound strong..I am trying to learn how to balance my voice generally. But my high notes sounds squeaky and weak..Is this is normal ?And how long does it usually take to master voice.Thank you.
Hi Madeleine, first time being on your channel. Meanwhile checked out all your vids!, beautiful! Especially your reactions to Nightwish and Floor Jansen touched me. I would love to see you reacting to a performance of Floor singing "Shallow" (Lady Gaga) "Floor Jansen - Shallow | Beste Zangers 2019". Well, the contemplative days are coming and this fits well!
This is so helpful to me Madeleine. I am a 1st Soprano. It seems that the older I get, the more my voice is changing to a different sound. It’s not sounding pretty like it used to and the vibrato is dragging. I’m thinking it’s totally a breath control problem. Any particular helpful hints on top of this lesson⁉️
i loved this...have a question here...at the moment of "mmmm" in the upper range, to reach high notes i tend to press too much my "full body"...what u recommend? pd: im a tenor whith a very wide range, but im missing my high voice
Hello, just found your site. I was able to do the exhales, but noticed something a bit odd. When I switched to the “nose” part, my left ear seemed like it was vibrating while I sighed. Any idea what would cause this? Thanks so much, I am excited to be subscribed to yours videos to learn more!
you said we're just moving air... so are we just letting it come from our vocal cords or are you using resonance technique in the face/nose?? bc I find this much easier & better feeling when I'm allowing or aiming the sound towards the resonance cavities unless I'm doing it at a very low volume pianissimo style.
Thanks. This helped alot. My voice often hurts after singing, especially high notes but this time my throat doesn't hurt at all. My only concern is that when I went into the nose space "N" came out instead of "huh".
hello. sooo, subscribers vote ;) she needs to react to Bobby Mcferrin -Spain ( Chick Corea) live in Bratislava 1986. He is really a master of voice. I have always said that. This year he recieved one of the biggest jazz awards possible - The Nea master award .
i find that after I do this excercise (and a few other strengthening exercises) that my voice feels a little weak for a few hours. i mostly sing in my mix register but it's harder to do that and I feel my chest-head break is more prominent after i do this exercise. is that okay/normal? thanks! 💕
Yes, this is 100% normal! Our vocal chords are muscle, and doing these exercises is literally a workout for em! So it's gonna be tired after a bit, just like if you were to do a regular workout you'd be feeling tired afterwords! Just give ur voice a bit to recharge & build that muscle ur exercising. (chamomile tea with honey is definitely a must during & after vocal exercises)
Me personell, had that experience with a teacher. It was so discouraging that I lost almost the fun for singing. But another teacher helped me with guiding me and at the end I sang better then before and was very happy. Conclusion of my experience is: I had a good teacher and then I had a bad teacher. The bad teacher didn't correct the right way, the good teacher guided me with her advise through. I had no problems with my voice with the good teacher. But I would guess, if you only do these videos without any good guidance you might need to correct breathing and straining your voice. A good teacher helps with that. By the way I think this lady here is an excellent teacher. But she cannot correct you, if you make mistakes while practicing her lessons. And sometimes we need personell guidance, because on mistakes we do make, when we sing. No shame here. It's part of learning. I rest sometimes just a few days, that helps the voice to recover. (I miss my good teacher) Mostly we try to be 🤣😂better then Whitney Houston and hurting our voice 😞without guidance. Being kinder, less aggressiv and over ambitious with our self while singing. Singers try to avoid that too. Tip: Drinking something warm after practicing but no coffee or black tea, might relax the cords.
I have a question, and maybe you could do a video on it? When I was younger I used to be able to hit some high notes, and now that I'm older, whenever I try to hit those same notes again the only thing that comes out is just air (no sound, and it even sounds strained). I wanna be able to sing again in that range but I'm not sure how, and I don't want to just keep practicing singing in that part of my voice because I don't want to ruin it even more. Do you have any advice?
I have a question: I find it can sometimes be difficult to give emotional truth to a song (especially sadness, when you feel like crying) when you have to sustain a long note at the end of a phrase in an upper register when the person is grieving. Had to do this for a recent audition (a new musical). I know it's about breath support, but when I'm thinking so hard about the note, I am removed from the emotion of the piece. Ugh. Can you do a video on singing with difficult emotions?
I’m just gonna leave this here:
Sighing:

7:24-9:32
9:51-11:24

Thanks so much for that really useful exercise Madeleine👌🏼☺
Half way through this i realised my whistling habit is a great air control exercise, its usually how i determine my range without mouthing any sounds.
