- Back in 2015, I got into Battlefleet Gothic and assembled this Imperial Fleet from a load of trades. Let's break it out of storage for the first time in a couple of years!

Well if you wanted an excuse to play a game, I for one would love to see a video battle report of BFG...
One of the (I think :) cooler things in my collection is the issue of White Dwarf from the 80s giving information on the at-the-time in-development _Space Fleet_ , the precursor to _Battlefleet Gothic_ - I really like the art of things that you never see in the game(s), like a breakdown of an officer's uniform (I readily acknowledge that I'm weird..! :)

They released 4 or five expansions for space fleet, managed to pick up an original spacefleet game off ebay with all the expansion white dwarfs included, quite fun with the extra content

Battlefleet Gothic, the best game GW ever released, in my opinion. Thank you very much for taking me on a trip down my own memory lane!
When I was in Middle School I basically lived at the local games workshop and this is by far the largest battlefleet gothic army I have ever seen. Actually makes me wanna play it... I only ever played the store demo game (I was a kind of unofficial unpaid employee who the manager knew shoplifted my wages)
Tied with space hulk in my opinion, but it’s hard to beat space navies!
Seconded! We played a lot of BFG back in the day as not only was it the best, you could assemble a decent sized fleet pretty cheaply (£8 for 2 cruisers) lead to me getting a little carried away and buying half the gothic sector Navy (not exadurating, been getting into recently again so did and audit and discovered I've got 30+ cruisers). Fortunately there's some really good proxy companies out there, so while it's not as cheap you can still put together a reasonable sized fleet comparatively cheaply if you look around.
That box cover art is one of the pictures that made me fall in love with 40k. I'd love if a modern BFG was made, maybe with some famous named ships from the lore. It'd be quite cool to see stuff like The Rock or Vengeful Spirit be properly depicted in miniature form.
GW: Our Market research has concluded there isn't enough demand for a new edition of this niche game.

If GW took another stab at making BFG into a big major game system, I have a feeling they'd REALLY push for huge centerpiece models. Imagine fielding an entire Necron army to try and destroy an Aeldari Craftworld? How about fielding the Imperial Fleet charged with the defence of Cadia and going up against a Blackstone Fortress?
just looked it up, apparently there was a metal Blackstone Fortress last time BFG was published.
I think it all just looks beautiful, unified color just looks amazing from afar.
Battlefleet gothic is a game that I’ve considered getting some models for since I know 1000pt games are only like 5 models and it looks like a lot of fun
BFG and Man 'O War were both very entertaining. It was a big shame they got discontinued in the big bonfire of smaller games when GW decided to refocus. The computer game BFG Armada 2 is good fun if you ever want to scratch that itch but don't have the time to get the models out of the case.

I'm a simple space sailor, I see BFG, I upvote! 100% agree on the fact that Light Cruiser are the nicest ship of the range, just sad Chaos and Orks didn't got access to one.
Nice fleet, the Dauntless was always a favorite. I absolutely Love Gothic!!.. won my copy in a painting contest when it was released. Game was perfect from the get go. Andy Chambers nailed it. Still play games when time permits.

The Dauntless are also pretty lethal, 3 forward lances makes a lot of firepower. If a ship has no shields, they're in for the kill

A well painted fleet is a beautiful thing. There's a variant of BFG that's been expanded and revised by the fans since GW stopped supporting it - BFG:XR. I've not played a lot of it, and it's mainly been with proxy ships - the ebay prices are indeed a little steep - but it's definitely as much fun to play now as it was playing a few games back in the school warhammer club. I've subbed to a patreon that's releasing the fleets as stl files, and I can't wait until the fleet enters orbit!

I always wanted this game. What I would give to have a full line of modular plastic warships.
Great video. Loving these army/model spotlights. If I'm able to give a suggestion, it'd be great if you put a link to your patreon in the video description. It'd just make finding a way to support you a lot easier. Other then that, excellent video, can't wait to see more!
I wasn't sure how well this fleet would do at first glance as Imperial fleets really depend on synergy between ships to punch above their wieght, but for being built with what bits you had this fleet is pretty well rounded, 18 attackcraft wings, pretty decent spread of weapons batteries including a fair amount of range with the Tyrants and Overlord, good spread of lances, 2 Nova cannons and LOT of torpedos,its got pretty much everything covered and a lot more use of speed than anything I ever put tigether (I like big capital ship heavy fleets with a lot of full sized cruisers and above)

That said, I reckon the current Aeronautica Imperialis is agood replacement, fills a similar "plan ahead/manouvre" niche and avoids a lot of the ambiguity of an open board. The space ships are just so damn cool though, especially the Forgeworld T'au fleet...
Really nice, my group never got into BG I struffled painting the army i already had.
I like to have fun with the bases, wet blending little purple, blue and green nebulae and speckling some stars over it.
Counter argument to the 2D-ness of BFG: the ship models are just visual representations of the ship in question, not it's actual position in space. The ships are actually a tiny dot right at the centre of their base because the distances involved are _huge,_ as in "1cm on the table represents *10,000KM* of space" huge. The ships themselves could be upside down relative to each other scattered around across a spherical volume and it just wouldn't matter because you couldn't see any of them at that scale.
BFG was such a great game though. I loved my Chaos fleet complete with Blackstone Fortress that I won at my local GW store back when it first launched which I promptly painted in the colours of the League of Free Worlds because Colony Wars was what got me interested in big space fleet battles. Took forever to play a game though because my brother wouldn't play unless he could set up at maximum Nova Cannon range though, which for the uninitiated was 150cm and ships moved around 15cm a turn and most weapons on Chaos ships had about 50cm max range. Fun times.

Ahh Battlefleet Gothic my favorite Warhammer 40,000 war game though I haven't played in many years. I had two main fleets (One Chaos and one Imperial) plus smaller Space Marine, Adeptus Mechanius, and Eldar fleets, a mixed Imperium and Chaos pirate fleet plus inherited Dark Eldar and Tau fleets I never played (Many of the other smaller fleets were all or partially inherited as well but I played them some)
My fleet builds are always Frigate or Raider heavy depending on the faction but if a wargame has Frigates my fleets are always Frigate heavy unless something in the rules prevents it or renders the concept non-viable.
That's really intresting always like seeing someone go a differenr route, I had a big Imperial Fleet and always went really cruiser heavy, only using escorts to use up left over points, I just preferred then better survivability of the larger ships, then again I didn't really build my fleet in the standard way, based it more around a US carrier group, using Ordnance to cover the usual job of escorts and most of the opponets in shop were orks or Chaos rarely went against Elder so that may of also shaled my experince.
That battlefleet gothic rulebook though....
Man you got a lot of cruisers. I don't recall a lance-armed battleship but that'll put the hurt on anyone.
I wish I could just get over to the London area to send my Aeldari Corsairs against your beautiful fleet. Oh well, one day, maybe.

Watching your army (or in this case fleet) videos really makes me want to try Zenithal on some of my forces. For simple batch paint jobs, your minis look fantastic.

I had a modest five ship 1000 point fleet of five Luna's, all with Nova Cannons, and a slight conversion where I cut the lance batteries in half and had one half of each on wither side of the weapon batteries. Had them painted in the same grey gold and purple as my imperial guard. They had some amazing battlefield results, including arcing a nova cannon round a moon to obliterate a Dark Angels Battle Barge, aimed for an escort and it scattered.
Would love to see a campaing where you guys play 30k, but you all have a small fleet of gothic to represent the transport fleet for your respective legions.

Oh having played Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2 I recognize everything you said, except the Jovian, in BGA2 we get a grand cruiser called Exorcist with four launch bays.

oh man a Siege of Vraks compaign??? I've wanted to do Vraks on the tabletop in some way for years and years. I spent a lot of days between driving patients around daydreaming about Vraks on the table. Guardsmen in trenches, all the resin and plastic tanks, the lines of artillery, figuring out how to do endless waves of reinforcements, rocky crags and long dusty boards.
I also would love to see Battlefleet Gothic be a Thing again cause I would be happy to have a little spaceship game on the side. I grew up playing the X Wing games and have always felt enamored with little spaceships
I was obsessed with BG when it released, but tragically broke, so I only ever got the base game. Since none of my friends ever bought any, I only ever got to play the demo games in-store. My love of the game miiiiight also have to do with me working at a Subway at the time, so I was able to estimate distance with the Nova cannon uncannily well by measuring in sandwiches.

Nice battleforce. Very consistent look to everything. The metal battleships really stress the flying stands to the limit . I drilled mine out and inserted a 2mm brass rod all the way through. Made a huge difference...
Yeah, I drilled the holes bigger and chopped the stem down so there's a wider point of contact!

Loved BFG, the PC games are great. I would love to see a revival. There just isn't any good space fleet games out there.

I recently started collecting and painting Dropfleet commander minatures. I wanted to get into Battlefleet Gothic but it seems to be out of print and dropfleet's rules are written by the same guy so close enough I guess.
