My name is Nat and I am a gothic operatic singer, actor and voice artist based in the heart of Kent, England. Music has always played an important part in my life as a musician and I love to use my platform on TH-cam to share it in my music reactions.

I applaud you for choosing Floor's version. Tarja made us fall in love with it, she was epic, but Floor is Floor. So much emotion. Love this woman
Yes!!! Tubular Bells!!! I used to listen that before my exams to keep from stroking out. Tuomas apparently spends a lot of time walking in the woods. Thinking. And he's Finnish, surrounded by lakes and ocean shore. Nightwish is capable of doing the most wonderful out of control freight train going off the rails sweeping up everyone music. Leaves you with your clothes ripped off, staggering about with a big stupid grin and an LSD frame of mind. But THIS...it's gently melancholy, soft, majestic and soothing. It EASES the soul, with just a touch of pain. Ah, the truth of life.
Tuomas is a FIEND! He strips me naked, finds all my deeply buried shames, tears them out, and heals the gaping wounds. I don't know what to do with myself. I just found them a couple of months ago. Where have they been all my life?
Thank you ... this song takes me from the deep pain of losing my sister > the deepest love for her > the joy we experienced > the thankfulness that she is at peace now > silence
i can understand that very well. i get the same effect from a nightwish song when i think about my little sister.
stangely it's another song that isn't really common for emotional connection i think.

I always have the impression you're not hearing music with your ears, but feeling it with your soul. So beautiful ❤
You hit the nail on the head, sleeping sun is one of those songs that doesn't get ANYWHERE NEAR the amount of love that it deserves, especially so with Floor at the helm.
It's one of those things in the world that gives (me, at least) that sense of profound interconnectedness that you described at the beginning of the video. I'm not a religious man, but it's moments like these that give me a sense of what it must feel like to have a conversation with God.
It's so exquisite, so calming, so beautiful. It touches me deep in the soul every time that I hear it.
I hate to sound overly dramatic, but there's "being moved to tears" where you sit quietly and process the music. This is not that for me. Sleeping sun for me gives me a physical sensation like something has physically taken hold of my heart, pulled it into the pit of my stomach, and the moment that the chorus hits, I'm just fucking done.
Once I hear "I wish for this night-time to last for a lifetime" I'm just sobbing uncontrollably. Heaving. It's just so sublime. I can't possibly put it into words.
So I show people this song instead. 💜
I have listened to this song so many times and I still get goosebumps...What is it with this band? No other band has ever impressed me more than Nightwish. And the more I listen, the better it gets. Love your reaction!

With Floor it does remind one of a lullaby, listen to Tarjas version, it is more mysterious. I love both because they interpret the song in their own way.
Yeah, their interpretations feel so different. I even think, this version might be a little slower than Tarja's version.
@@caligo7918 Yeah, at least it feels like that. Like I said I love both versions. Tarja draws you into a mysterious scenery, like a forest were you see the light that comes through the leafes starting to fade. While Floor tells you a story, tucking you into bed.

The song is calm but intoxicating and energetic. It just stirs emotions.
That is exactly what this particular song has always made me feel. No matter who sings it.

Nice reaction. Tuomas was encouraged to write a song by his record company. That would have to do with a upcoming major eclipse that in was best viewed in Northern Europe. That took place Aug 11 1999, thus the last of the century. This is the result, with it being released a month or so before the actual event. It swiftly climbed up the charts in Europe.
Nightwish's Meadows of Heaven sung by Anette is this same kind of song .. it really grabs you .. but you don't know why ... if you haven't already .. .i think you will really enjoy it Nat ....

Love your reaction and what you said about how music like this can touch every part of you. I listen to this every night repeatedly to help me relax. It brings a sense of calm and peace in me. Really wish it is released on a CD.

I just found this gem of a reaction channel. Love your personality! You like the opening synth yeah? It's a little bit subdued here though. You may check out the original music video which was produced back in 98/99 to experience the 'ethereal' feel of the melodies.
Where to start?! Nat, great reaction & you've got me intrigued about the next video! You're such a music lover it's hard to imagine that you avoid anything to such an extent. - As for this song, how (HOW!?) did I ever miss it?? It's so beautiful! - I followed a link from another Goth Moth (and no doubt Army member ☺) and listened to the earlier version with Tarja. Both are wonderful.. the words 'melodically sublime' came to mind w/ both. Personally, I prefer Floor's style for NW, but love the incredible operatic talent of Tarja, will never hate on either. It's like hating on 2 master painters - yeah, they're different, but just enjoy the gift of their talent. ☺

Tuomas has a lot of musical "influences". From Mike Oldfield to Vangelis, from Metallica to Pink Floyd, from Pantera to Michael Nyman, classical music, musicals, Disney soundtracks... well, he even likes the band Aqua and bought the record "Aquarium" in a gas station :)
I was just about to comment about Tubular Bells when you brought it up.))) Tuomas. is a fan. This is another old NW song where you really should check out the original version, which is gorgeously ethereal...
She looks like a dark goddess among all the people and the lights. Always love your thoughtful opinions!. Also I know how this song was written but it always resonated with me that it talks about depression idk why, it's dark and heavy but soft at the same time, not a second of it is boring
The intro, Tubular Bells...excellent observation and yes it does as well as a little of Rick Wakeman's The 6 Wives of Henry VIII!!. This is as beautiful as you would expect but Tarja's LIVE version is also something to behold and you should check it out for your own benefit (th-cam.com/video/E_RRMRXJWxI/w-d-xo.html). I never believe in the debate of who is better, as both Floor and Tarja are great and any song that they both did is a matter of personal preference, that said as a Floor fanboy check out Tarja's version! This classic track from Tarja's era is probably the most famous Nightwish ballad ever. Tarja's dark voice is essential to this, but our so beloved Floor did it well at this Tampere 2015 show. Thank you for your beautiful words, Nat!
I always your reaction. You are a fantastic man. I think you will really love the band Ayreon too. Ayreon (composer = Arjen Lucassen) makes rock opera's. I think the word you were looking for at the start is "synth". They were synthesised strings. The other one perhaps was "ballad"?
I really really recommend Jinjer - Pisces! As a complete contrast to that - I think you really would like the norwegian artist Aurora. Anything live from Nidarosdomen with her is awesome, but also Runaway and Helvegen feat Wardruna :D
You make me curious what you're going to do after a recording is over? Will you re-listen to Floor and if so, how many times ?
I love Floor but I do feel that the key that Tarja sang in the original transmits the feeling and darkness of this song better. Floor's has a very sweet element to her texture while Tarja's more mezzoish approach gives a sad bittersweet feeling to it better.
I get the point of Tubular Bells. Most people won´t have an idea about some syntheziser tunes until they hear some of the most famous.
Maybe your event is a reason to look back a bit.
I cant wrap my head around some Tarjas greatest pieces ever when Floor sings them. Doesn't quite do it for me like Shoemaker or Ghost Love Score which are originally Floors.
I love Floor's straight tone so pure and clear no manufactured virbrato .. Tarja ' s version is very nice I just prefer Floor... Great reaction

Hey! I just came across with a NW song "Slow love slow". I think you should see it. Hint! It is something you have never seen NW do before. As in: Not metal and not operatic. And try the Anette version.
I find Floors version a little better though, its less operatic but has more texture and emotion to the voice, imo, but the placement of Tarja flooting in the air in her white dress like the sun is masterfull staging.

I feel the same, I think everyone can agree that Floor is an incredible singer and she improved many songs with her live version, but for me this one as well as Dead Boy´s Poem is not a song that should be belted at some point, even though her voice is just beautiful. Those songs live from the strong in the sense of intimate feeling, not from vocal power, I think they just sound the best if kept small and ethereal. I know Floor is very much capable of that as well, so I don´t really understand the choice there.
There is some old songs from NW that will never work with Floor. Floor has covered "She is my sin" with After Forever. That is killer cover. But when Floor sings it with NW it is so lame...

However much I prefer the current lineup, do yourself a favour and go watch the original video, the calm waftiness is so much more with the studio recording. Original, like the one with Tarja in the magic bathtub, not the 90's LARPy remake that had the phoned in by everyone performance.

Floor is great but... for me personally this is the ONLY song where I actually prefer Tarja.
She ruined the whole song. It sounds like Celine Dion singing in the end. There's no more magic in it. Tarja is way better
