This was my wife's favorite song (Tarja's version). When she passed 6 yrs. ago I didn't think I would be able to maintain my composure if I heard it again with people around me, so I avoided it. Not quite correct Jan. The southern portion of Finland saw only about a 55% totality and its norther portion would have seen 42%-43% based on some maps I looked at. Th true totality was on a line from southeast to northwest, crossing Hungary, Austria, southern Germany, the more northerly part of France and then the tip of England's "foot" in the southwest. It was a German organization that commissioned Tuomas to write the song.
One of the early Songs, it is about the solar eclips on 11 of August 1999,,, ** 222 days of light ** is from 1/1/1999 up to the eclips. At that time their german record Label asked to write a song about it. One of the terms was " not longer than 3 minutes", Knowing Tuomas, he made it 4+
I get so emotional when I hear Floor singing this song! And I am a big, tough guy...but...there is something about this song that is so beautiful...that I can listen to it over and over again, and it just soothes my soul!
They always draw you in straight away with the genius that is Tuomas. Then Floor adds her brilliance. These guys don't play music, they are the music, immersed in the feelings and resonance that is an experience personified. They always leave me wanting more.

Well, I enjoyed it. Both the song and the reaction. There's a difference between Floor and a drug. With Floor, you don't have to chase the eluding high, she delivers one every time she sings, in any genre. *all talk about illegal substances have been spoken about by complete strangers and no edible was injured during this comment.
Hello Psyche! Didn't expect to see Nightwish here. I used to love listening to them. At one time I was very fond of such bands, different types of metal with female vocals, this is usually doom / gothic / folk metal. I can recommend bands like Nightwish if you want. Hello Vic -happy Sunday. Thanks for your comments much appreciated. The reason I stipulate that is because there is only one of me and thousands of you so it can be overwhelming. Plus I show a variety of Artists as I am not a super-fan of anyone but am a fan of super talent. Also I don't like to promise what I cannot deliver (I'm old school). People these days promise so much and never deliver leaving disappointment in their wake- so to me I take out expectation as it's healthier and above all honest. I don't get paid to do any of this and it's all free so people can watch for free. A lot of channels charge. To get round requests people recommend which fine but they get overlooked because of the sheer volume of stuff plus its used as a back door to get stuff played. I always liked NIGHTWISH. But..with the addition of FLOOR..I Became a hardcore fan. Floor's Voice is so beautiful & Capable of every emotion.. She's Transcendent. Her Style & interpretations are definitive. I've never heard a Singer quite like her. Rare Talent.
This does not only regard to Nightwish but practical every major rock band. They often have some of the best ballads. In a concert it is important to give the audience time to recover after a number of loud,fast and hard hitting songs. It makes the experience even better and also gives the musicians time to catch their breath. If you are bombarded with more that 200 bpm music for more than 20 minutes it starts to become boring no matter how good the musicians are. Of course there are some hardcore fans that never gets enough but most others needs a rest.

Hi Psyche, I think there is no need to say, they are talented professionals creating this kind of performances. We know that for sure. For me this song makes my mind rest, just to listen and enjoy - and to calm down. The same feeling I get when I go into the forrest in summer time, sitting down on the moss, listening the birds singing. Hearing no other sound but the wind - feeling the tranquility of the nature. This is a little jewel of a song melodically, lyrically, polished. Kudos to the record company for giving Tuomas the commission. It's found an odd niche of it's own as soundtrack of choice for amateur cinematographers and animators making sinking ship videos

As much as this song is about an Eclipse. I find it emotional as well. I love this song. In my opinion the live version with Tarja...well I love it perhaps more. That video shows nice camera Emppu is playing his guitar, and Tuomas...when the song begins he's showing his finger to audience "shhh please be quiet" 🤘☺ I think Nightwish has made standard, this is music your compare other music to. This is a little jewel of a song melodically, lyrically, polished. Kudos to the record company for giving Tuomas the commission. It's found an odd niche of it's own as soundtrack of choice for amateur cinematographers and animators making sinking ship videos
