The cello guy ruined it in my opinion. I don't think the people playing this understand the idea behind the piece. The cello should've lead with less delay; more heroically and confidently without that little pause he took @ 0:51. The original SNES version had the timings and delivery perfect.
Basically, the idea of the song is it's like you're moving into a new phase of reality, like death. The lead cello guides the echo strings, with assuredness akin to one that's been living and observing FROM the new perspective the entire time. Here: watch?v=iArK7AZe6-I

The only time I ever put a controller down and stopped playing as a kid just because I wanted to listen to the music was for this song.
