I love this;it’s a great tribute to the genius of Dave Wise. My dad was a studio engineer/producer and professional musician, had no care for video games but stopped in his tracks walking past the family tv as I was playing donkey Kong when I was 4 years old. Absolutely intrigued,he exclaimed: “wow, the music is fantastic!”
It's crazy how with such limited hardware David Wise created such a masterpiece. You can also feel the impact of all the sound effect that David put in his compositions, like Klomp's Romp is perfectly played here, but without the sounds of the wind and the boat craking it feels like 2 different songs. Thank you for this, for a few minutes here I was back in 1995 .
funny enough, the music was made with the same method as the graphics: prerendering. Basically David Wise made the songs on a synth of his choosing, then added ambient sounds to the music itself with the help of a computer, and then compressed it all to fit onto a SNES cartridge. The limitations themselves were more literal than anything else. Not to say they weren't impactful on the music itself, but bro wasn't creating the songs with a synth hooked up to the SNES or anything, just composing elsewhere and shoving it onto the cartridge when he was done. Pretty sure this is how all SNES music was made though, hence why all the iconic Nintendo games have their own unique soundfonts, and also is why Tim Folin is considered a technical genius: for doing so much with so little and still leaving room for more on the table when he was done. Plok's OST uses only 5 of 8 available channels, for example.
@@ByrneBaby No. The SNES was my synth of choosing - written directly to the Snes using my sound-set.. There was never any synth it was pre-made on.

Now that I have watched the whole thing, Absolutely stunning! Clearly made by someone who loves the game! Love the outfits, the music, the energy you bring, the different characters you play! I loved how you added the dueling piano's vibe to Snakey Chantey.
It is not discussed enough just how amazing these soundtracks were. Iconic piece after iconic piece, there's a reason I still play DK Country 1-3 to this day. Great playing as usual!
Kara, I didn’t leave my own unique comment when this first came out because I was so at a loss for what to say. Nothing I can conjure up will do you any justice, but I’ll try and speak from the heart. I’ve listened practically every night since you’ve uploaded this resplendent gem. This video was your all-time greatest masterpiece for TH-cam. There is no classic video game for the SNES that evokes this degree of nostalgic gaiety and pure bliss of DKC2. And for good reason. The music was the most beautiful ever put to a video game. I still don’t know, almost thirty years later, how David pulled off his tour de force, but it will touch my heart forever. If a night is lonely and cold, your renditions (and more broadly, my reverie of the DKC2 soundtrack in totality) are like being kissed by a sunrise. If you ever meet David in person, he owes you a gigantic hug and you owe him the automatic reciprocation of that hug from yourself and symbolically from all of us. ❤
Well this was so sweet and kind, thank you, I hardly know how to respond back! Thank you for your thoughtful message- it means so much to me! I would love to give David Wise a hug hahahahhahahahha
Words cannot describe how much of an impact the DKC2 ost had on my childhood. Each piece is unique and perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the different worlds we find ourselves in. You have your swamp, mine, dungeon, forest, pirate ship, ice, underwater and volcanic levels, and so many more. David put his heart and soul into each track. Awesome homage!
_"... to record the COMPLETE soundtrack, to use in a modded version of the game, ..."_ COOOOOL, so can we expect a full MSU pack for this? That'd be *AWESOME!* Being super excited for the premiere! 😍
Ok, this whole performance has been incredible but then as soon as you got to the Enchanted Woods/Web Woods (one of my favorites), I was like oh man, how is she gonna pull this one off when you can't slide notes with piano and organ, but then YOU STILL MANAGED TO MAKE IT SOUND SO AMAZING. It literally brought tears to my eyes. Incredible organ work in that one. Loved the forest footage you used at the end, too. ❤
thank you so much! I love when people point that one out because it's my favorite in the set alongside Krook's March. Such a good track and the organ makes it sound so good!
TH-cam must have wanted me to go down memory lane because you are playing my childhood. You are a true treasure to the gaming community. Keep up the amazing work!
As an absolute (borderline obssesive) fan of the game and more particularly of its soundtrack, I really loved your arrangement. The timbre of the organ fits perfectly and it adds a surpising layer of melancholy : "Bayou Boogie" left me speechless. It reminds me of a simpler time, it reminds of my mom who offered me this game. Man do I miss her and this time period. Thanks a lot
The leap across at 18:50 and the Stage Clear had me cracking up 😂 This soundtrack has been stitched in my head ever since childhood. Thank you for this very entertaining performance 🙏🐵

Kara's passion for the Donkey Kong series is second to none. Absolutely amazing renditions; it's crazy how timeless this soundtrack of this game is. David Wise is genius and it always blows me away how he managed to compose these masterpieces by reverse engineering the whole process to fit within the SNES soundchip. I have heard COUNTLESS covers of the DKC2 soundtrack and they're ALL amazing. Some are your popular remixes with all kinds of techno inspirations. Some are FULL ORCHASTRAL arrangements. But never have I heard such a "simple" cover like this - piano and organ that FULLY captures all the heart and brilliance of the music like you two ladies did here. I LOVE IT. I was smiling the whole time - and if I wasn't physically smiling, my HEART was alive as I worked on my video game project with your music in my ears. I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!!! Thank you for delighting my evening!!
This was such a treat to listen to! Some standouts for me: 26:10 Enchanted Wood: The instruments work together beautifully to capture my imagination. To me, the pianos bring out a feeling of tranquility. Meanwhile, the organ beds and higher notes build a sense of wonder. 17:50 Snakey Chantey: Hearing the bouncy melody in a ragtime style is so fun. I smiled at 18:42 when Diddy stole the show. 3:42 Jib Jig: Inspired choice to use wood for percussion. It really grounds the music in the ship setting and brings it back to the game. 42:16 Rescued: Kudos for including tracks that don't get covered much. The triumphant sound is a fitting way to end the series of tracks. Thank you for the touching listening experience!
Hey Kara... I can't thank you enough... thank you for this... My mind traveled back many years, and many good and affectionate memories came up. This is more than just music... What you did was wonderful, and it touched me deeply. I needed this, thank you very much. A big kiss from Brazil
Probably the greatest soundtrack of the SNES, and perhaps one the best of the 90s for video games, this is perhaps the greatest recreation i've seen. The sound alone puts it in the top, but the video puts it in the top content i've ever watched on TH-cam. I love it!

Now that I have watched the whole thing, Absolutely stunning! Clearly made by someone who loves the game! Love the outfits, the music, the energy you bring, the different characters you play! I loved how you added the dueling piano's vibe to Snakey Chantey.
thank you! yeah im enjoying more and more the cinematic stuff, I'm already thinking what I want to do in my next big video haha
It is not discussed enough just how amazing these soundtracks were. Iconic piece after iconic piece, there's a reason I still play DK Country 1-3 to this day. Great playing as usual!
there isnt' a dull moment in the entire soundtrack, I'd say that's pretty genius! :D
@@KaraComparetto You’re welcome. And I knew doggone well you would
This is some great music to monkey around to!
Awesome homage!
thank you!! The source material was more than enough to get inspired for these arrangements... just genius stuff!
This was great! Nice job you two.
What’s up Paul! You seem to be everywhere I am these days, lol. Man of good taste.
That’s right. Great minds think alike!

_"... to record the COMPLETE soundtrack, to use in a modded version of the game, ..."_
COOOOOL, so can we expect a full MSU pack for this? That'd be *AWESOME!*
Being super excited for the premiere! 😍
Yes! I just randomly decided to do it... and I have someone who offered to work on it so it's coming soon! I'll let you know :)
@@KaraComparetto LOL, I can't tell why, but I somehow "smelled" it! :D
Awesome idea and project, Kara!
@@KaraComparetto P.S. Random ideas/decisions sometimes are simply the best. ^^
That's so cool. Cant wait to play it 😊@@KaraComparetto
@@KaraComparetto wait seriously?! do you mean a romhack that'll have your piano instead of the 8 bit tracks?
本当に凄いです!2人の演奏に聞き入ってしまいました😊懐かしいメロディーを蘇らせてくれてありがとう🎉
Amazing! Stickerbrush Symphony for the win!
Keep up the amazing work!
thank you Joshua
David Wise is one of my heroes, and you've done beautiful justice to this game's soundtrack. Caught myself humming along with you. Bravo!
thank you!!
Thanks a lot
thank you, Im sorry about your mom
The leap across at 18:50 and the Stage Clear had me cracking up 😂 This soundtrack has been stitched in my head ever since childhood. Thank you for this very entertaining performance 🙏🐵
Started crying @9:33
Made think about how I used to be a kid and play this with my older brother. Such amazing times. You brought back so many memories, I love all your videos!!
I especially love sending these videos to my older brother, because he immediately replies with
I KNOW!!! SHES SO GOOD I JUST WATCHED THAT ONE!!!
Everyone reading this, please cherish all the time you have, no one is promised tomorrow, don't leave things unsaid!
Love your vids Kara, you're amazing and inspiring!!!
Aw that's so sweet! I used to play with my older brother all the time, we would take turns going back and forth- he would always get way ahead of me because I would die more haha!
Fantastic music and production! I can tell you and David put a lot of work into this one. Everything from the music arranging and performance to the costumes and video editing was spot-on. I love the added percussion as well. You hit a home run with this one Kara!
thank you Greg, and thanks for commenting before 1000 hahahah! :)
I am crying while listening. That's because this is the game of my childwood and I still play it sometimes nowadays. I am 37 years old now. This music touches always my heart, my soul and my feelings so deeply. And your great interpretation not only on the piano, but on every aspect of the scene you made with this scenario...wow. I am crying also for your deep and trustful interpretation. Thank you. I subscribe right now and I'll follow you to be updated. Be careful, you make people fall in love
thank you so much for this, it means a lot to me!!
Thank you!! For making these beautiful covers!
This game (and it's music) are burned into my memory from childhood. This makes me want to cry. ❤
Thank you, let the tears come!
Bravo. Enchanted Woods and Snowbound Land are 2 favorites and you play them so beautifully 🙊
Thank you so much Matthew!
0:25 ok, directly started to cry
Why? Do you need help?
Waaaah. Waaah. Pathetic
I don't know what to write exept for: for me, it's absolutly nostalgic and perfect, organ and piano fit incredibly good, and my favorite video game songs of all time are played here. So, thank you.
Thank you!! I tried to go for an authentic sound, I hope I achieved that!
Totally moved and in tears 🥺 Thank you very much for reliving those unforgettable moments!
Awww, thank you so much, :I love knowing it can grab people's emotions, even music from such a "silly" game!
@@KaraComparetto the moment you started Mining Melancholy my heart stopped and tears went down! Usually people cover Stickerbush Symphony or Snakey Chantey, but Mining Melancholy has a special place in my heart ❤️ Thank you again, Kara!
Kara I love how weeks after the video came out you still read and Like and reply to all the new comments every day. The PDIComic one was my favorite. And I’ve been reading the new comments every day myself as someone who loves your work and this video most especially. You poured your heart and soul into this, and it took you years of practice and dedication to not only become so skillful at the piano but to also build your creativity and your strikingly amazing stagecraft. So therefore it makes sense that you want to read everything your fans and viewers have to say about this masterpiece. This video also got way more views than most content creators will ever get for a video in their entire lives. And you deserve every one of them and more. You’re such a genuine and stand-up woman.
I just posted a new video and hardly keeping up with these comments now but I'm trying! I'm also recording the complete undertale soundtrack this week so im quite busy haha! Thank you, and I'm glad you notice those little things!!

Best pianist! I put the DK megamelodies at work 🎉
My face is tired from smiling for so long.
Thank you for this gift for us all!
awww :)))))
This series of SNES games were one of the ways I'd relax after getting home (because I'd mastered the levels by replaying). Now years later listening to this medley I can feel myself relax too 😌

Given how fiendishly hard the game was, I applaud you for memorising all of these levels
this was made with SUCH care!! an amazing work 💙 not just the interpretation of songs but also the setup, editing, even matching outfits!! I'm enjoying it very much, thank you ✨
Thank you for noticing the details!
You reignited my lost childhood with this beautiful rendition. Thank you.
oh wow thank you Charlie! thanks for supporting the music and helping me continue to make more!!
Love the Dixie Beret.
Even though I watched most of these as individual releases, watching the compilation is still just as breathtaking. I love how emotive your face is. StickerBush and Hot head bop are both stand outs
thank you! I hope you enjoyed the extra ones too- we considered releasing swamp by itself but it was too short. That was another favorite of mine :)
Fechem os olhos e só ouçam: irão relembrar 30 anos atrás, em frente a tv de uma locadora
Yessss ❤
This is the most homeschooled thing I've ever seen. I bet y'all slay at Catan. I loved jib Jig, and Stickerbush.
I never win Catan sadly LOL
Neither do I.... 🤣@@KaraComparetto
dkc2 is literally my favourite game of all time! Brilliantly played. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
Yeah all these comments are making me want to go back and play It AGAIN haha, but I just played it like last year! XD
Enchanted Woods, from 27:44 to 28:04 is nothing short of magic. You two hit it out of the park with this Mega Medley. It truly showcases how amazing the DKC2 soundtrack is. Bravo!
thank you, yes enchanted wood is my favorite in the set!
As a musician- it's one thing to hit the notes right, but to get and transport a feeling/vibe that is what seperates the most; Chapeau!
thank you
The organ adds so much to your multitrack! And both pianos are very nice!🥳
This is what we've been waiting for. Thank you Kara!
Banger alert.
I always like watching the master work.
see you soon!
I looooved the costumes too, haha. The ending of the video with the Diddy impression caught me completely offguard. Got a hearty chuckle out of me. I love you, Kara. Never change.
hahahah thank you so much
Cosplay is always a bonus with good music!

ありがとう!
本当にありがとう、私の音楽が世界の裏側まで届いていることにとても驚いています!
I just turned thirty five and this put a huge smile on my face. I can't tell you how many times I've played through the original DKC trilogy with my brother. I got both DKC 2 and Mega Man X3 for Christmas in 95' and I still have them. Man does time fly. David Wise is my all time favorite game composer and I love your rendition!
thank you Mikey! This was one of the top games of my childhood!
This music was my childhood growing up as a kid in 90's. Thanks for the upload and the nostalgia.
Thank you, it was mine too!
Looking forward to it ❤❤❤!
See you!!
With DKC 2 being my favorite in the game trilogy, it was so cool seeing these songs played live! Thanks so much for the hard work it must have took to make it happen!
Stickerbush symphony got me misty-eyed, well done!
Isso foi realmente incrível, um show de arte e musica, um muito obrigado e um grande abraço do brasil 🇧🇷 ❤
Obrigado! e um abraço dos estados unidos!!
Thank you for delighting my evening!!
this made me so happy! I took a screenshot of your comment and posted it on IG hahahah!
also if you're a chrono trigger fan, check this set too! best thing I ever did th-cam.com/video/0fGq2BfstZs/w-d-xo.html
we all know we're here for this 19:24
It’s all great music but yea that one is quite possibly the best video game song ever imo
@@dandylyin2502 same honestly. I liked the whole thing obviously but I was just waiting in anticipation for that one

Enchanted Wood has a place in my heart, but the whole soundtrack of this game was amazing! You did this flawless, amazing!!
enchanted wood is my favorite!!
That's a Diddy party
K-Rool had plenty of explosives and gunpowder, but no oil...
Hey bro,p.d?
Oooooohhhh yessss❤❤❤❤🙏🏼🎉🎉🎉
Stickerbrush trauma from squawky just flooded my memory thanks for transporting me back lol. Such a great thing to stumble on.
awww sorry lol!! XD
This was such a treat to listen to! Some standouts for me:
26:10 Enchanted Wood: The instruments work together beautifully to capture my imagination.
Literally just watched the whole video start to finish without stopping. Job well done👏🏾
wow thank you!!!
Hey Kara... I can't thank you enough... thank you for this... My mind traveled back many years, and many good and affectionate memories came up. This is more than just music... What you did was wonderful, and it touched me deeply. I needed this, thank you very much. A big kiss from Brazil
Thank you so much, and greeting from the USA!! Glad you loved the music
Probably the greatest soundtrack of the SNES, and perhaps one the best of the 90s for video games, this is perhaps the greatest recreation i've seen. The sound alone puts it in the top, but the video puts it in the top content i've ever watched on TH-cam. I love it!
Oh my goodness!!!❤😊
44:40 best part
Its amazing who she manages to play a sweet Forest Interlude and also a Haunted Chase with the same instruments.
Thank u for bring this amazing masterpiece for all us DKC fans
forest interlude is my fav on the album!
This was so nice to hear * - * Dixie's outfit is so pretty! Thank you very much for the experience! :D
My favorite soundtrack of all time! And your "Jib Jig" was simple yet my Favorite!
