It came from multiple sources. Saleh and Rogers didn't deny Zach said it. Saleh said because he didn't hear it directly he doesn't want to pursue it and Rogers says it shouldn't have been leaked not that it wasn't said.

If you read the original post I'm responding to he is saying the reporter should have run it past Zach and generally discrediting the reporter implying that the story isn't true. Its Zach's fault for saying, next it's the person who leaked it, you can't expect a reporter to sit on a story because it isn't favorable. It's my belief the GM with ownership approval intentionally didn't add a competent backup so there would be no other option but to play Zach. The only people who get this out of control are political people. Kay is obviously irritated over the jab stance and it's clouding his judgement across the board with everything else. It's also a typical member of the media who doesn't like it when they fight back. Also, if you listened to his entire interview he slammed the person 10X more than the reporter for not coming clean.
