Looking at this video after the game’s come out is really interesting to me for a few reasons. 1• It shows just how far off base our theories as fans can be when we’re anticipating things before they come out. Something as simple as misidentifying locations - the security guard in Neon was actually in the Well. But that’s an understandable mistake. This was before the game came out and they are aesthetically very similar locations. To be clear I’m not criticising the video for getting stuff wrong, but realising how wrong we have been using hindsight, is an important perspective worth taking into consideration when we engage with each other as a fanbase, since people argue very fervently over these topics before games even release, just to have things very wrong. 2• It shows how much of a bias we have for assuming that just because a group is powerful, they therefore must be evil. We equate underdog’s with moral superiority, and the irony is it turned out that the FreeStar collective were by far the more corrupt and authoritarian faction. * One of their 4 leaders is literally using terrorists to steal the land of his people for profit via threats and use of violence and even murder. * A second one of their 4 leaders - the mayor of Akila and member of their council of governors - is clandestinely trying to drive out residents just for being from the UC, while conversely the UC president is actively trying to repair relations with the FC. * And a *third* one of their 4 leaders is an actual crime lord who profits from the subjugation, racketeering and exploitation of his own people, holding a stake in every illegal operation within his own little personal domain. So literally 3/4 of their leaders are massively corrupt. * The institutions within that personal domain are very corrupt. The security service is essentially a gang that extorts its citizens through protection rackets * Their primary law enforcement agency actively discourages you from pursuing the law when they realise it involves someone in a position of power. It also only consists of 12 people across 3 *solar systems* * The collective is a corporate dystopia precisely because of the low regulations people associate with freedom - allowing massive conglomerates to exploit the people and labour for profit to an absurd degree. Corporate espionage and murder are just normal business practices. * 2/4 of their leaders are high level business men using their clout to become leaders and then using their leadership to further their business interests. Another is literally a descendent of the Collectives founder which is more similar to a dynasty. It’s so bad the Collective have 2 anti government terrorists groups fighting against them for regime change - The First, and the Vultures Mercenary Company. Of course the UC are flawed too. But they’re flawed in the sense that they are overly litigious and bureaucratic. But precisely because of that, corruption is far lower (though not absent) when compared to the Collective. And authoritarianism too isn’t applicable. We know they’re democratic as they’re described as the “Idealised Space Repuclic” and people are described to be running for office. And crucially, people in the UC aren’t being extorted, or murdered for their land by their own government. In terms of UC imperialism we find out the opposite is true. The UC seems reluctant to exercise force. Despite winning the Narion War the UC allowed Narion to join the FC and merely took some mineral rights and asked the FC to not colonise more than 3 systems to which the FC agreed. The colony wars actually started because the FC couldn’t stick to even that meagre obligation and violated the treaty. Despite that we find out even though the UC had the ability to annihilate Akila at the start of the War, the UC chose not to and even after having the FC navy on the ropes, stopped shooting when civilians stepped in to shield them. The UC exercises its power with a lot of restraint. Xenoweapons notwithstanding - the UC could have done far worse, and *chose* not to on multiple occasions. People inherently mistrust institutions with power and influence - which is something that is becoming a major issue in today’s world leading to very conspiratorial thinking as people assume everything they hear from an authority must be a lie or an attempt to mislead them for some hidden agenda. I like how Bethesda turn this tendency on its head and use it to subvert the players expectations. And this isn’t the first time they’ve done that. The Empire in elder scrolls has always traditionally been the force for good, and even in Skyrim is for from Black and white evil.
Great video. The planet Gagarin is named for the first human in space/orbit. Yuri Gagarin usually pronounced - gah GARR inn - has an incredible life story as he grew up poor on a farm that was occupied by the Nazis in WWII. He was chosen by his fellow astronauts in a secret anonymous poll who praised both his character and knowledge.
This channel is so awesome and professional. Can't wait for Starfield, it's literally my dream game since like for like 20 years, exploring space has always been my dream, so glad I will be able to do it in a video game since I won't live long enough to experience it IRL.
Create fear and distrust of information (journalists, institutions, gov.) and people tend to seek powerful appearing autocrats to take charge and make them feel secure in the chaos. Creating that environment is how fascists like Hitler, Mussolini, etc rise to power. They start by attacking the press. It will be interesting to see if Starfield has some kind of conflict between the press and manipulative politicians who claim to be victims of the press.
Excellent video! Loved the deep speculations that actually make a lot of sense... I too had noticed the very strong presence of fully armed guards in the UC areas, but you did an excellent job of explaining it and breaking it down for us, also kudos for very keen attention to details. looking forward for the next vid 👍
Did a better job of bein observant than I... I figured all those Guards bein everywhere, and other past footage of all sorts of Hostiles in Space, including but not limited to Pirates, was related and ended up not even blinkin an eye.
@@JoshuaGanoTyraxLightning I wonder if in the factions questlines it will be possible to start another full scale war between UC and FSC? Bethesda said there is an uneasy peace atm.. (well if not in vanilla modders will take care of it.. :D)
I have a couple of speculation theories of my own. One relating to the Colony War and the other relating to Starfield's timeline. Speaking of which, @starfieldsignal could you please make a video about Starfield's timeline and what we currently know? Anyway when it comes to Starfield's timeline I have two theories. One: Starfield's timeline has a point of divergence similar to Fallout or Two: the timeline is correct up to 2020-2023 with everything happening afterwards. With Theory one, the only evidence I can provide is the retro style design for the space suits, ships and how the architecture on places like New Atlantis and Neon are very modular in nature and have some similarities to how we will build buildings on Mars with the large tent like structure to give us a breathable atmosphere (read Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy for how he portrays a tent like structure over top of the Martian cities and he describes the buildings being modular as well). In this theory, the point of divergence occurs at some point in the 1960s or early-mid 1970s during the space race with the US and USSR competing not only to put a man on the moon (July, 1969 OTL) but also set up a colony on Mars (idk when Cydonia was settled whether it was 1980s-1990s or 2035). This would allow for the ships and suits to retain those retro 1960s and 70s designs seen in OTL (Our Timeline). With the buildings and their modular appearance giving me 1980s and 1990s vibes. This would also mean that the space race would have not really ended and NASA and the Soviet space program would have continued to do missions including exoplanet exploration and FTL Drive/Grav Drive research. Theory two, our timeline's history is all correct up to 2020 and then after that fictional events occur. This theory is also possible as at some point NASA might have gotten more funding for Mars missions and Exoplanet exploration and discovery. This would have also had to have accelerated at some point when it became clear that something was going to happen to Earth. Colony War theory, I theorize that one of the factors leading up to the Colony War is that the United Colonies has something to hide and the Freestar Collective because of their independent nature, posed a potential threat to the UC and might even expose that they have to hide. This also relates to my speculation in the Starfield timeline. In the 2150s, climate change, pollution and disease have taken a toll on the human population. The final blow being that a comet containing large amounts of Carbonic-Oxide could collide with Earth in the 2170s. That would explain why New Atlantis was settled in 2161 with Akila City promptly following in 2167. To back my theory up, if you look at the 2021 Starfield trailer, one of the books seen on the shelf was Omega: The Last Days of the World and to quote from the Wikipedia page, "In the 25th century, a comet made mostly of Carbonic-Oxide (CO) could possibly collide with the Earth. The novel is concerned with the philosophy and political consequences of the end of the world." Then here is the theory on what the UC is trying to hide. With the knowledge that the comet could collide with Earth and render it largely uninhabitable, the governments of Earth or EarthGov (if they amalgamated into a one world government) in the similar veins of the Enclave from Fallout chose a select few leaders who then select a handful of people to settle on Jemison and in Alpha Centauri. To the general public they state that it is a colonization mission and hide the fact that a comet is going to strike Earth. At some point, Solomon Coe and his family (I get the impression that he might have been a political figure from a US State like Texas or Montana) are selected to be among the members of the newly formed United Colonies (they would be remnants of the EarthGov) and he is informed that a comet will strike earth between 3 to 5 years from 2167. Knowing this, he is not happy with what they are doing and selects a few families who were not pre approved by the UC. Learning that Solomon Coe is bringing some stowaways, the leaders on Jemison decide to strip Solomon of his rank and place and banish them from the UC. Solomon then decides to establish Akila City and has it resemble the rugged, western spirit of individualism and independence. After the comet strikes Earth, most traces of Humans living on Earth are scrubbed from the memories of most of the settlers in the United Colonies. That is one of the things that the United Colonies is also trying to hide. This would also be one of the factors leading up to the Colony War. What a long winded essay, but those are my speculations and theories about Starfield's timeline and the Colony War. I could be right, completely wrong or maybe some of my theories are partial truths just have to wait and see when Starfield officially comes out.
Love the thought and energy you put into these. Just awesome. Yeah, the "Omega" book is definitely a nod to something. Can't wait for us to all find out together.
Let the Starfield lore flow out and spill unto the world. Great start, looking forward to the next episode already. It makes sense that no faction is inherently good or evil and that there is nuance and gray areas in all of them. That would point to a game where no choice is absolutely right or wrong, which would encourage you to play in any way that you want.
Only heard of this game coming out about a week ago and only found this channel today! Very impressed by both and very excited about it all. Very sad it won’t work on ps 4 or 5, Xbox here I come! Still need more research into the factions.
Another AMAZING video! This is what we need to see. The amount of attention to detail and puzzle piecing needed to be done to speculate this lore is incredible! I'm in team UC. And I think imperial is the proper designation. They are the supreme ruling faction trying to make life work. Their idealogies and governance has obviously seen success based upon the quality of life and technological advances. The FSC on the other hand seems more like a ragtag group of rebels that split off because they wanted to live life "free". Clearly you can tell how well that's worked out for them by their shanty stone hewn town. There are so many references but Skyrim imperials vs stormcloaks really are the perfect reference. Also on the fish city... They were there for more than the fish, and they knew it. Being an advanced colony, they knew the psychotropic effects the meat would have. Instead of deserting it, why not build it into a money making machine and turn it into a New "Vegas". 👊
What I love about Bethesda games is that they don’t pick sides politically. They let the player do it! That being said free star collective all the way!
Has anyone else noticed ‘Freestar collective’ sounds like ‘Three star collective’, which would be a reference to their logo AND the fact that it’s 3 star systems?
yeah i don't think we'll have good vs. evil sort of factions. There are plenty of comparisons to be made between the Great War and the Skyrim Civil War in the Elder Scrolls and the Colony Wars in Starfield. I expect this war to have left both sides licking their wounds, and i also expect both sides to be somewhat in the wrong but with good intentions behind their goals.
I’m def siding with UC or Ryujin Industries. Did they say you could complete the game with Constellation as well or is that just a group to set you up on your journey and give you quests?
@@starfieldsignal With the amount of dialogue that Bethesda is adding to this game I can see the story being deeper then any other game they've made. It's going to be interesting to see how each faction is represented and I hope Todd and team forgive me I might end up lost in my own story if the game and world building mechanics turn out to exceed expectations. Side Note: heard there might be a Xbox Starfield exclusive console coming out. Was wondering if you might have heard the same?
Yes, I hope the dialogue is telling of how deep their stories go. And for the branded console, I think it would be a slam dunk move and a real missed opportunity if they didn't. We can only hope!
On the other hand since this is mostly speculation at this early stage, you may be able to shift the UC in a direction. Like how Will Shen said you can nudge the Freestar Rangers to focus on justice or industry, I doubt the United Colonies is in their ultimate form. Is it more important for them to be a star federation/republic, or to be impervious to piracy and terrorism?
The UC strikes me as being similar to the Brotherhood of Steel. I can see their perspective, but there's also the potential for too much control. I'm planning to play each faction, so we'll see...
10:18 This isn't heavy handed, the guard is there with a neurologist because That boy needs therapy! He's crazier than a coconut! Heck, there's even a guy in a white coat to prove me right.
To answer your last question: it's a bit of both. I doubt the UC would be as villainous as the Galactic Empire from Star Wars, but they'll definitely have a dark side behind their gleaming exterior. Yes, they'll have an adverse effect on places that they extract resources from, and rule with an iron fist, but they'll justify it by rightly claiming that they've brought stability and prosperity to the interstellar economy. Definitely a gray zone there that players can exploit for its role-playing potential.
@2:50 - Alpha Centauri is a new *solar system* not galaxy. It is definitely still within the Milky Way Galaxy! You did get this right later on in the video. I wonder how long it would take to get there. We can’t go anywhere near the speed of light with a ship massive enough to carry people and supplies. At 4.37LY away, I would think it would take several decades to get there. Maybe even 50 years!
Lol, I knew I would look over something like that, thanks for picking that out. All this terminology is hard to keep up with when you’re not used to using it in daily conversation.
I suspect it's just the stand in faction for space USA. My rationale is that almost every sci fi representation of humanity in space is either humanity united and indistinguishable from the USA - or humanity divided, but the biggest and most powerful nation is of course, space USA, with current culture and values just ever so slightly more progressive. It feels like we're being introduced to the humans from Mass Effect or Halo again. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm terrified I am correct.
I smell something fishy about the Neon fish thing, they said.. if I remember correctly.. that the drug fish is only legal in Neon.. what if the United Colony makes so much money on it.. that to have such a dirty business they had to open it in a different system.. maybe it's legal matters.. or even, something that is not too clear to the general civilians of Jamison. While the Free Star Collective doesn't like that shady corporate state of mind along with some hipocrisy of something that is problably bad for the health.. being legal somewhere because It's just too far away from other places. I can picture a cowboy-esque "mayor" or something like that in Free Star Collective pointing about those imoral hipocrates and their comsuptionist culture or something like that. Maybe kind of like someone from the Legion would mock the inner problems of the NCR or Imperial would mock Stormcloaks and vice versa. (Legion and Bear don't go along don't they?) I'm curious to see what will be their roles.. and how much of shades of grey will these factions have. For now.. I feel like I'm more of a Free Star Collective.
@@starfieldsignal I am an anarchist at heart. I want freedom and am more than willing to accept the personal responsibility that goes hand in hand with it. Those who are willing to sacrifice freedom in exchange for security... Well, Benjamin Franklin had it right. Power corrupts, and centralized power is ALWAYS more evil than decentralized freedom.
I had a feeling you were a little wile, haha. But I love that we'll be able to play around with these different guiding principles in the game. Might not get this deep, but it's fun to think about. Thanks as always for watching Peter!
Im glad you are looking beneathe surface layer to see the possible political kabals that acutally pull the strings. This is what The Galac Tac Team is banking on for our story when we bring our content to starfield
"Did humanity mistake the kind of technology we need to find a new home, with the kind of leadership we'd need to build a new home?" what an outstanding question. Applies to the entire human experience in the 21st Century.
Hey Luke. You might wanna rethink your colonizing the galaxy idea. The MIlky Way is 106,000 Light years in diameter, so 25 light years away is like saying Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are across the country from each other. :)
We can't be sure that Neon is part of the UC just from that image with the UCSEC guard though, since we don't know that it was definitely Neon. It could've been a slum part of New Atlantis or some other city. Also maybe they were just stationed there because of the pirate threat and weren't actually there since the establishment of Neon
@@starfieldsignal i would say trust nobody, but i'm giving constellation the benefit of the doubt because Sarah said that we are part of the family lol.
I would agree that it gives off a feeling of occupation rather than protection. Quick question for you in previous videos we’ve kind of speculated about how the technology might be used for transportation. Have you found any evidence that points to the ancient technology being used for weaponry or enhancing our ships abilities?
I feel like ( super dumbed down version here) the 3 colonies will be this : 1) Military /Martial Law 2) Nomads / Freelancers 3) Criminal I am also sure you will dabble with each faction which will result in you forming rapport with each. End state being who you are more faithful to. With out a doubt there will be some dilemmas in which you have to choose side. However, I hope it isn't black and white. It would be a shame if you eventually get hard locked into one faction due to choices. You should be able to do what you want for whomever. Perhaps everyone will hate you and you'll have bounty hunters all across the galaxy looking for you. That would be awesome.
The UC is based in Alpha Centauri? I'll definitely want to explore that system, especially the gas giants. Maybe I'll run across a lush forest moon rich with deposits of a valuable room-temperature superconductor.
Having seen how many people sided with the Stormcloaks from the moment that single Imperial Captain in Helgen ordered their execution at the start of Skyrim, I'm sure plenty of people will flee the high gloss of the UC for the chance to live out the Firefly experience in Akila with the Freestar Collective.
I agree. I can't help but think that the world of Starfield will be like that of Firefly/Serenity... having left the Earth behind due to pollution, overcrowding, and/or environmental disaster. The United Colonies would be like the Alliance - generally good and caring for all, but deciding what they think is best for everyone using their military power to force it on people - and the Freestar Collective like the Independents - just trying to get by and live under the sweat of their own brow, without the overbearing Alliance there to push them around. It'll be interesting to see how things go with these two and the other factions
There apparently not being Proxima Centaure really irks me. I mean we HAVE an *actual star-map* of our neighborhood except some planemos and brown dwarf systems. Why not use it? Seems a lot more interesting imo. I mean in the next decade we will only learn more about our immediate stellar neighborhood and the public will likely become a bit more familiar with it excluding nerds like me who already are, so actually flying around in it might just be a good long term attractor to the game even if actual planetary details will no doubt be inaccurate. It seems more interesting to me at least than flying around in a fictionalized version of reality. Of course that only slighly dampens my enthusiasm for the game but it dampens it nevertheless.
You would think that at least the Alpha Centauri system would have all the stars its suppose to. Since its well known. It'll be weird if its missing two of the system's stars.
@@starfieldsignal Of course XD See, sometimes you have to make some people regret not having "the big bad government" to call for help when overwhelming force arrives. That overwhelming force will be me and my merry band of pirates - the *bad* side of "personal freedom at all costs". :P
Couple things: Edit: After posting this, I realized that I had missed that this video is six months old (good job, algorithm!🙄), so it's likely you already know these things. 1. The Alpha Centari system is actually represented by 2 of the 3 stars in the game. Toliman is another name for Alpha Centauri B. The only star of the system not represented in the game is Proxima Centauri, or Alpha Centauri C. This is a bit strange, as IRL, we know that it has at least one planet that COULD support life, as it is in the star's goldilocks zone, meaning it is at a distance where the temperatures allow for the possibility of liquid water. It's very unlikely, as Red Dwarf stars are typically very volatile, so the planet is likely heavily bombarded by dangerous radiation. Also, it's almost certain that the planet it tidally locked, meaning the same side always faces the star, so it is likely baked on that side, and completely frozen on the other. 2. I'm pretty sure that the portrait you show from the lodge is Sebastian Banks, the founder of Constellation, not Solomon Coe.
I liken the United Colonies to the Fallout 4 Institute who for the sake of their vision of humanity wanted to abandon the human nuclear war survivors to create a world and people of their own design.
By your narration of this history/lore of Starfield, I'd say this game looks to be rich in content, teetering on the verge of INFINITE quantities of things to do during yiur game play. This is quite good news, considering it takes approximately 12-15nyears between game releases. Quality usually Trumps quantity!
I have a feeling the United Colonies are the Imperial Legion/The Empire of Starfield. I don't know that they're quite as "evil" as their Star Wars counterpart, but they just seem like the largest governing body that people just kind of have to deal with, for better or worse. The Freestar Collective are the Stormcloaks/Rebellion who have decided to distance themselves from the UC for whatever reason. Being a part of the UC seems like it would be easier in various aspects, but the FC gives you more freedom.
I would like to point out that on the same screen with the child being talked to by security, when zoomed out, there is a sign that says “Security and Safety”. Sounds like an authoritarian government to me.
In all honesty, the UC *does* look like a police state, but considering the situation, I do understand the choice. This is not Earth where humanity was born and had always lived on. This is a completely new thing, and requires careful observation and, more importantly, the capacity to not make rash actions. And if there's *anything* true about a mass of people, is that their first reaction to an unexpected and potentially dangerous event (alien lifeforms, extreme weather, solar flares, a sudden breakdown in communications, *ANYTHING*) is knee-jerk and emotional.... yeah, you need to keep a tight leash.
I really dont know if the writing in starfield will be more nuanced. In skyrim the push to consider joining the stormcloaks is basically the fact that the empire was about to cut your head. If you use an alternate start mod you get to analyse both sides and the empire, even with its flaws, feels far more justified than the stormcloaks. I hope that we also get a more nuanced freestar collective instead of just a bunch of clint eastwoods that dont want to get in line with the military regime of the UC because they dont like paying taxes or something. But yeah, I just dont jive with utopian governments in scifi like star trek, even if they have a darker angle. Ill probably not engage much with the UC, but remains to be seen.
Why not both? I believe it was hinted in a developer interview that you could be sent to infiltrate the pirates as a double agent for another faction. So you get to enjoy the space pirate life without doing the space pirate time.
Game looks good but looking forward to see what they do with the dlc and for a game like this I hope they come out with major dlc once a year for the next 4 years space combat space wars alien invasions every thing
A few nitpicks: 1) Around 2:55 "...transition to a new galaxy." should be "transition to a nearby star system". 2) Around 5.32 when talking about the wars. We do not that there have been no conflicts between the UC and FC before the colony war. They could have been fighting on and off since their founding. The diplomat class also says the "The WARS are over" so there could have been a series of ones, on and off, for over 150 years, with the "Bloody" Colony war being the latest. 3) Around 8:40 talking about Neon. All the way across the galaxy
Love this type of video! An extra piece of evidence of UC imperialism is just to the right of the screen at 8:23. You can see better using your 8K version, but the graffiti shows someone stabbing something with a UC knife and the word Imperial… I think the people of Neon might agree with your argument here Luke!
@@starfieldsignal if you are right, and the Collective are more libertarian, for a matter of prínciple I will side with them, make a sort of roleplay of a "hero" with Abraham Lincoln vibes
Where is this phrase "at all costs" coming from in relation to the UC? Just something you've made up? This video feels like a lot of speculation and drawing conclusion from very few facts. We simply don't know enough right now to be even making hypothesis. There are some parallels however to be drawn with the factions in FO4 or New Vegas. The implications this video serves are that the UC, like the NCR or Brotherhood in this case are bad while surely the Freestar Collective, like House or the Railroad can offer better protection against whatever existential threat this game universe offers... or not.

Excellent video! Loved the deep speculations that actually make a lot of sense... I too had noticed the very strong presence of fully armed guards in the UC areas, but you did an excellent job of explaining it and breaking it down for us, also kudos for very keen attention to details. looking forward for the next vid 👍
Thanks for watching!
@@elderscrawler6202 That did occur to me as well...
The novel is concerned with the philosophy and political consequences of the end of the world."
Then here is the theory on what the UC is trying to hide.
👏
yeah i don't think we'll have good vs. evil sort of factions.
Same here. I really couldn't agree with the last one that they where "evil imperialists" and these guys are "good rebels."
I’m def siding with UC or Ryujin Industries. Did they say you could complete the game with Constellation as well or is that just a group to set you up on your journey and give you quests?
I believe the “main quest” will be through constellation, but it will weave through several other quest lines.
@@starfieldsignal oh got you. Kinda like the minutemen in beginning of Fallout 4 before you could actually side with them
I have brought peace, freedom, justice, & security to my new empire - The UC probably
Oooo if they are authoritarian then I know who I'll be signing up for! Lives before freedoms!
I can see players turning to other factions because of United Colonies view points. Power can corrupt the most noble of causes.
Absolutely! I think these factions are going to be fascinating. Hopefully they've had enough time to really put the work in to flesh them all out.
@@starfieldsignal It's Bethsoft. They rarely trip on things like these. I'm hopeful!
@@starfieldsignal
With the amount of dialogue that Bethesda is adding to this game I can see the story being deeper then any other game they've made.
Nice, haha. You're not wrong!
Thanks, it's a reference to Frontier Psychiatrist a funny song by The Avalanches.
Well done and looking forward to the next part on the Freestar Collective!!
You had me at Starfield lore, subscribed! Great job on this 🚀
Thanks for hopping on board. I think you'll enjoy the channel.
Honestly after the vanguard info session I was expecting a window to pop up and say “would you like to know more?”
I am solidly in the Free Star Collective camp. Browncoats forever!
Awesome, Why will you go with that faction first?
Good point, but it was just a bit of hyperbole 😉
Is this going to be the Luetin09 (warhammerk 40k) version of Starfield?
Yo I like this channel cause it doesn't get in to what people think of the game and arguments surrounding it..Just the Game. .Great video
Thanks for watching! We're just all having fun here.

Neon is a FSC colony, the video you showed of the UCSEC Officer is from The Well in New Atlantis
I think the UC is a police state. But depending on the threat from the crimson fleet and wild animals it might be more reasonable than we think
There’s an interesting callback to Mirror’s Edge, even in the architecture of New Atlantis
i'm a constellation guy, the other factions need to pull their weight.

Thanks! Got another good one cooking for the FSC.
already a well made themed lore channel for starfield? Hell ye
I would agree that it gives off a feeling of occupation rather than protection. Quick question for you in previous videos we’ve kind of speculated about how the technology might be used for transportation. Have you found any evidence that points to the ancient technology being used for weaponry or enhancing our ships abilities?
Good question. Right now we don't have much info at all, but I do have some thoughts I'll be sharing in a theory video in a couple of weeks.
"At all cost/No matter the cost" is the reason why we have to be looking for a plan B out there in the first place...
Now that ive played the game. The UC gives me Mars congressional republic vibes from the Expanse.
I feel like ( super dumbed down version here) the 3 colonies will be this :
1) Military /Martial Law
2) Nomads / Freelancers
3) Criminal
I am also sure you will dabble with each faction which will result in you forming rapport with each.
I'd like to see a video on the lore behind Galacticat and Parsec Pooch.
Hi Luke, again a nice video. And your channel is growing!!! Keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
thanks for these lore videos, they are great and I would love to see more
There apparently not being Proxima Centaure really irks me.
Of course they could change this. It has been almost a year since that gameplay footage was released.
I'll join the Crimson Fleet and raze *every* Freestar Collective settlement while blasting the old USSR anthem. :D
lol... strictly for role playing pursposes of course...
@@starfieldsignal Of course XD
See, sometimes you have to make some people regret not having "the big bad government" to call for help when overwhelming force arrives. That overwhelming force will be me and my merry band of pirates - the *bad* side of "personal freedom at all costs". :P
Couple things:
Edit: After posting this, I realized that I had missed that this video is six months old (good job, algorithm!🙄), so it's likely you already know these things.
A great community in the making
Absolutely!
Keep up the amazing work haha I’m enjoying every video so far! You’re helping us get through the hard time of waiting!!!
I liken the United Colonies to the Fallout 4 Institute who for the sake of their vision of humanity wanted to abandon the human nuclear war survivors to create a world and people of their own design.

Thanks for watching, Darren. What do you think about the speculation?
Whoever is willing to sacrifice a little bit of freedom for a little bit of safety, derserves neither... And will lose both.
Normally in Scifi games or movies, the most advanced and civilized faction is the Fascist one.
haha, yeah it is a bit of a trope, but with good writing I think it could work.
By your narration of this history/lore of Starfield, I'd say this game looks to be rich in content, teetering on the verge of INFINITE quantities of things to do during yiur game play.
This is quite good news, considering it takes approximately 12-15nyears between game releases. Quality usually Trumps quantity!
Brilliant attention to details, the UC aren’t what I thought, thank you Luke, 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching.
Well I never even questioned toeing the line in Starfield, like a good little boy. But hmm...yeah. Food for thought o.O
I can't help but think of the television narrator in Starship Troopers. "Would you like to know more?"
Yeah, good point. Surely with all that dialogue they've written things out from some different perspectives.
Why do the Character's eyes look so odd? Is this a Bethesda design choice or limit of the engine?
Great analysis
Thanks so much.
Big fan of totalitarian governments, really drives the potential of humanity and progress, as long as its semi benevolent ofc.

Yep. Big government all around. First it's control one solar system, and then it's 20. And the taxes, let's not forget the taxes😢
If the game is still using money in this future, it will be bloody.
I was going to join the pirates and be a bad guy on the first run. Now I'm joining the uc and being a bad Imperialist guy on the first run. 😂
Why not both? I believe it was hinted in a developer interview that you could be sent to infiltrate the pirates as a double agent for another faction. So you get to enjoy the space pirate life without doing the space pirate time.
In a hostile galaxy order is needed,a strong unified human government is needed

The United Colonies is ultra California. The Freestar Collective is mega Texas.
The implications this video serves are that the UC, like the NCR or Brotherhood in this case are bad while surely the Freestar Collective, like House or the Railroad can offer better protection against whatever existential threat this game universe offers... or not.
