Thank you! This is a life saver and it actually worked... I watched 10 other similar videos before this one but either the apps or recommended cords did not work for my device. These recommendations are the winner! 🎉😂❤
Thank you so much for this video, bought the parts listed and downloaded the app and connected all to my Sony AX53 camcorder and it works a treat THANK YOU
You can also use your tablet as a screen for your hdmi enabled modern console, Raspberry pi, C64 maxi/mini, or Amiga mini, for example. Most old tablets such as the Lenovo yogas have micro usb ports, so you'll connect it to a dual otg cable (one cable for power, one for data) then connect to the capture device which is accepting the HDMI signal from your console or pi. Many of them Yogas have large battery lives, so it's a great portable solution if you dont have access to a large TV. Youll need to buy the pro version of USB CAMERA to remove advertising or find another free camera app. If you have USB C on your tablet, even better. I used to play RETROPIE from a Pi Zero on a tablet screen via the capture card. Excellent device for sure.
I have been researching this topic since the last few days. The solutions that pop up are as expensive as getting a field monitor. I have a spare iPad lying around which I can put to good use. This solution you have provided is definitely worth trying. I look forward to connecting my Sony a7ii to my iPad 5. I will comment once again to let you know how it goes.
@@GiuLauda No, it did not. I have a Sony a7ii and an iPad Pro 11 (2022). I got the Micro HDMI to HDMI Cable + HDMI Capture Card. the HDMI Capture Card has a USB-A cable attached. It also came in with a USB-A to C adapter. Hardware wise it all connected perfectly from the cam to iPad. But I didn't find the same app that you were showing on video to get the live feed from cam. I tried some other app that showed up in the results but it kept showing a blank screen instead of feed from the cam. Any suggestions?
@@bhosekar1982 Sorry for not replying sooner, I don't really have any apple devices that I could use to try and help. Just using the app store through a browser I actually did find the same app, it was just called "USB Camera". In terms of just getting a black screen, I ran into that issue when I tried using a Camlink as the capture card (aka a capture card that requires a USB 3.0 connection) and my adapter seemed to read out as a USB 2.0 connection. Therefore I only got a black screen. But the same problem didn't come up when using the cheap-o capture card that I showed in the video, due to it only using a USB 2.0 connection. If this is still relevant to you, you could check those two things. Hope it helps.
In the video, I was using a cheap Lenovo tablet from 2015, but there shouldn't be any issue using it with iPads. Not sure what you mean by "nix the HDMI capture".
Excellent video! I am able to get record video to my smartphone using the free version of USB Camera, and that impressed me pretty well. I also have an external monitor (for computers), but I am going to be testing it with the USB and the HDMI input it has as well and see how that goes.
thanks for this video. I have a Sony FX3 and the camera seems to have a micro USB, hdmi and USB-C ports and no micro-hdmi slot. which cable do you recommend I get instead of the micro-hdmi-to-hdmi ? Thanks!
Would you suggest the same equipment if the camera was actually a smart phone? I'm trying to find out how I can connect a monitor such as a Samsung tablet to my android phone as I use the Filmic Pro app to film an interview for a short documentary.
Did this work for you? I'm trying to figure out how to record with my Samsung phone and use my Samsung tablet as a monitor while recording. Will this work for that or is there an easier way?
I want to connect my EOS R to android tablet S8 ultra ; to use it as a monitor for my cam . how can I get the best quality 4k results?? And do u recommend a specific Vedio capture card ???
Actually, I recommend you do the recording in the camera, and just use the tablet to monitor yourself. And if you're just monitoring yourself for composition and whatnot, the quality of the feed isn't that big of a deal. That's why the one I use is one of the cheapest capture cards on Amazon. It offers 1080p 30fps max, but it doesn't need USB 3.0 to work, so I can use it with any adapter.
What software you have installed and used to capture hdmi in to usb... recording... is it OBS screen recording and streaming software? Is this the best free?
The music you chose is distracting. Your voice and inflection are great. No need to have a snapping snare blocking part of your voice as I listen. Thanks...
This works for my Nikon D3100!😊 Do you know if this app will work to connect cell phone camera to a tablet screen? Because my rear camera for cell phone can produce 4k but would be nice to have a front facing screen for selfie type content. If this is possible what cables do I need? Both phone and tablet are usb c. Will I still need some type of capture card/otg for it to work properly? Just a USB C to USB C did not seem to work.
@LowFigh Hi I just wanted to follow up and say that it can work with the same configuration you suggested. I was able to cast my entire phone screen to my tablet with the app you suggested. I just needed the right HDMI cable with USBC and capture card. It came in the mail and I tested it out immediately. Thank you for this video again. It was a big help. 💙
I've been trying to figure out how to review photos while traveling and use my larger tablet screen to review and quickly delete. What did you mean about usb c to usb c? My android camera and tablet both have one but I can't figure out how to mirror my camera screen with it or even just review images except one by one, so frustrating
Hi Ville, I have tried to connect my new Sony A R 7 IV to my new Ipad pro directly with Camera usb a to Ipad usb a. But it does not work. Might be the camera settings but I have not found any setting which could help. In your tutorial you had a lot of connecting cables. Do I need them when I can connect directly usb a to usb a ?
Just to make sure, USB-A is the standard rectangular USB port. USB-C is the small, more oval-like one. If you have a camera with a USB-C port and the camera has a UVC codec, you shouldn't need anything else. The reason I have so many cables in my video, is due to not having a USB-C port in my camera, so I have to use the video-out port, which is a Micro-HDMI.
Sir, i tried this. It works best with mobile Redmi note 9 pro. But on Honor X8 tablet, half of the bottom screen gets disturbances. Even i tried one foot and 3 feet HDMI cable.
Is sony really not able to make an android app that can be used as an external monitor & remote control that works reliably? It's incredibly frustrating that even professional cameras costing thousands of dollars still only have the same crappy 2.5 star mobile app from 9 years ago. Companies could hire like 2 people to write new software for them instead theyre using the menu from the first digital camera they made in 1996.
I have a 10.1 inch samsung tablet and a Fuji X-h1 camera. Can it works? OK this kit can looks ridicolously on any event but whos care? With a rig the tablet not loads the camera.
So a tablet works just as easy as a portable monitor. Actually, better? I need my dvr on a monitor to watch Camara. I want to be able to carry to the living room or my bedroom
you provide only the basics, but no app info for converting the smartphone or tablet to a monitor. Not very useful because the app for the wireless devices is the most important part.
A very simple, comprehensive & easy to understand method. Thanks.

@@villerasku iOS17 with it's native support for external webcams seems to have resolved the issue. No 3rd party app required.
Thnx for the video super helpful, but was there any latency?
There's noticeable latency (maybe like 20-50ms).
Great video. I love that you explain the difficulties that you had and then explain your solution.

Hi Ville! Is the USB 2.0 capture card good enough? Maybe it's better to buy the card that supports USB 3.0? What's your opinion?

Just get an HDMI to mini HDMI and HDMI female to USB-C.
Doesn't work
