The scene in Snow i see it as: Thomas’ temper is high due to the snow and wearing a snowplow, things he hates, so he’s naturally going to be more on edge and annoyed, so it’s understandable that he’s going to be rather rude because he wants to get his work over with.
You might noticed that in the Brenner Era , Thomas has his classic series development, he's a bit cheeky but it's shown multiple times that he has mature. For example in the adventure begins, Edward becomes Thomas's mentor figure and teaches how to work on Sir Topham Hat's railway, and later on in s19 Thomas teaches Phillip the same thing. Man this character grew a lot! Btw congrats for your video Cinder!
I never realized how much Thomas has grown up throughout the course of the TV show until I saw this video explaining all of that. He went from a young little engine who used to be cheeky, rude, impatient, and thought he knew better than anyone else and only of himself most of the time in Seasons 1 and 2 to an older, wiser, kinder, more experienced, more sympathetic and well respected engine who puts others' needs first before his own in Seasons 3 and 5, which is something I like.
Well hey, Neither did I, Until now, Too. And I wouldn't say rude, but more like inexperienced. But I will say that, throughout the whole series, he was very, you know, Rugged.
It goes without saying that Thomas certainly had quite a journey with his character development in the classic series. Also, I'm really interested on how you would cover Thomas and Edward's relationship with each other some time.
It would be through that relationship where I can see Ten Cents and Hercules being compared to them respectively. Both dynamics are like big brother/little brother when you take a step back.
This is why classic series Thomas is my favorite version of the character. He really felt like he involved as the series went on. He never lost that cheeky edge, but he did mature into a really useful engine.
Heh. Good thing that trait sticks with Thomas through his development since that's the main part of who he is as a character. Some fans has to understand that despite development, main traits always remains with the characters and still enjoyed to this day with no complaints.
I like how Season 5 Thomas isn't a perfect happy guy saint. He still gets impatient from time to time and still has his cheeky savageness although not as bad. Series 5 isn't a perfect season and Thomas isn't perfect either, but I do think the series handled him quite well. I wish more fan productions would show Thomas like this. Most either have him be really immature like he is in the classics. I like the more mature version that does have a great sense of humor and cheek to him still as well as being an absolute troll.
Even in the railway series, Thomas follows this character growth. He’s still cheeky, but he’s grown so much and is much kinder than he was in his younger days
I would not say that Thomas was not kind in the older seasons of the show. Trully he was rude and mad that sometimes nothing came as ''Planned'' for him. But come on. On both seasons and onwards he is still cheeky like you said. And is not rude anymore like he used to be. You said that so nicely about him. And that is what I love/like the most.
Honestly I think Thomas deserves to be the way he was in season 5 in the rws dispite his character being consistent it seems like he wasn't allowed to grow up. That's why I love season 5 cause it shows that the writers knew this and I think that's why they had him grow up in the TVS. And that's why thomas deserves his maturity.
yeah the main characters who truly changed over a prolonged period of time in the RWS are Gordon, Henry, arguably Douglas, Peter Sam (slightly out of order), and Skarloey (out of order)
I always liked Season 5 Thomas and Percy best. They've both matured and grown, but they still have the occassional cheeky and tempermental streak. I just wish the three big engines had grown too, imo they were at their worst in Season 5.
this is why I love Thomas himself so much, for his portrayal and arc in both the Classic series AND the Brenner Era and for how much of a perfect mixture of kind, selfless, considerate, optimistic and mature, with cheeky and sometimes cocky. And for that, he's my favorite character in the whole series. Awesome video man, I hope to do my own analysis of Thomas's character myself and while I know a lot about him already, this video gave me even more to consider and i'm definitely taking a few notes to keep in mind so thanks for that! You're awesome mate
Thomas maturing over the Classic series is something I think they did better than the RWS. Nothing against the RWS but I find maturing/character development much more interesting personally
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 True though shoutout to Henry he definitely changed quite literally as well. Same with Peter Sam imo his character journey is really underappreciated.
Man you blew my mind on Thomas and Edward being close friends. I’ve seen original stories of the two working together but I never thought about it like that 🤯
I swear in all of the 584 episodes, 24 seasons, and 14 movies or specials, Thomas has pretty much insulted everyone on Sodor apart from Edward! 🤣🤣🤣 Although neither of them are painted green they are definitely like two peas in a pod. 🟢🟢
It was great seeing how Thomas evolved throughout the classic series. I think I can truly consider him one of my favourite characters too because of this. And I definitely see Thomas being friends with Ten Cents. I’m actually thinking of having Thomas visit Bigg City Port sometime in the revival era and meeting the Tugs characters. By the way, can you see Simon Nash voicing Thomas? I somewhat can.
I personally enjoyed Thomas' journey from Seasons 1-5 and I still think those are the best seasons, 3, 4 and 5 will always be the golden days for me ^^
Indeed, Thomas journey has come to a complete close in season 5. Not including season 6, 7 and the rest of the Hit era. To me Thomas has reach his mature point in season 5 and that’s how we like it. Sure even the Brenner era has some good episodes of Thomas being mature, and I love it.
This explanation of Thomas' maturity throughout seasons 1-7 is very good since some other characters in my projects go through a similar thing as well I do think when the show was reaching it's downfall it still shows some moments to them since Thomas is also one of my favourites and despite his child-like behavior he is the main stable of this franchise
I truly believe Thomas’s character development post season 5 would have continued in that direction it was going if Britt Allcroft was still showrunner and either TATMRR was successful and how she wanted done or didn’t exist.
@@samsea0489 It's nice to have a film around Thomas even if it didn't turn out well. TV shows got films eventually. Season 5 is made cinematic as a build-up to that.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967Still l think Britt should’ve been patient about making a film back in 1999 and shouldn’t have been big-headed as W.Awdry mentioned. I mean look what we got after season 7
@@samsea0489 That doesn't matter. Britt put her passionate work in the film like the crew put their passion in Series 3 and not big-headed as Wilbert Awdry stated since he should know that everyone like the original stories of Thomas and nothing wrong with that, not to mention that not every Thomas episode has to based off printed material and if people and we like them, be contend with it. The test audiences make Britt comply. Also, she didn't know about Hit wanted to buy the show at the time.
I do like how Thomas isn't just a 1 dimensional character that is always nice and perfect, the fact he has positive and negative traits makes him more relatable. Even when you say how in the later series he gains some more cheekiness, but that just reminds me of friends of mine. He has banter with the other engines. Also when you look at old footage of Paddington Station and other London termini stations and you see all the station pilot engines you see how Awdry got the idea.
There was a kind moment of Thomas in season 1 as well I’m not being critical I’m just saying: Thomas did express concern for James in Thomas and the Breakdown Train, he said he hopes poor James isn’t hurt and he rescues James and helps him back to the shed
From cheeky to humble he went through a character arc and a half. I was going to put Thomas when I ever make a tier list in mid but now I might put Thomas in a High B, I also think that the Brenner Era did some justice for Thomas he’s still cheeky but mature plus there was a the episode “not so slow coaches” where Thomas went all around the island trying to get Annie and Clarabel after Charlie accidentally put them on Caitlin’s train, there aren’t a lot of engines who would do that in this show or at all that I can think of it shows how Thomas really cares about his two coaches. Something like this is something you don’t really see a lot in Thomas nowadays and I kinda wish we did get them but for what we have I think it’s pretty good
Really great analysis of Thomas's character development. Starting out as young and cheeky, then progressed into a more mature and wise engine. Thomas is definitely a character I think we can all relate to.
In Thomas & Trevor (A New Friend for Thomas), Thomas actually questions but reframes from saying anything about Trevor. He actually self control over him.
Here are my thoughts on Snow. There are times when all of us become more snappy when tired and irritated. Thomas hates snow and especially his snowplow. So because Thomas is already irritated, he becomes much more snappy to Percy.
This may be unlucky tug talking but I believe in the classic series, Thomas looked across at Percy and up at Edward. In the HIT series Thomas bonded with Percy closer in his separation from Edward
From your analysis, I might defend Thomas going back to cheeky ways in Season's 6 & 7 as his growth not being quite linear, as can happen to people. Plus, in some ruder examples like with Percy in Scaredy Engines, you can kinda chalk it up to Thomas not knowing when to stop. With Percy, they've been jokey friends for a long while now, and Thomas probably figured Percy wouldn't mind all the teasing. This happens again for when he's rude to Henry and Salty while joking with Percy. The show in general excels off characters having great flaws and Thomas is perhaps the greatest example of this.
"In a noticeable different place at the end of the season." We can say that about Gordon in the RWS. The books literally start at the start of his life, and follows it through to a heartwarming, meaningful conclusion. And in that final story, Gordon doesn't whine about being taken off the express. He instead accepts it, as he is too old to pull the express like he used to. Plus he's been in revenue service some 80 odd years. Longer than any of the Pacifics in the UK.
That’s why Thomas is my favourite character. He went from a fussy, impatient, reckless, cocky, arrogant, cheeky, condescending prick despite having a good heart to a kind, sensible, mature, selfless, helpful, cheerful and optimistic engine despite being cheeky and occasionally cocky but it is not as mean spirited as it was in Season 2 and when it comes to complicated situations, Thomas put his cheekiness aside and acts more serious just to help his friends. It is kind of sad may fans don’t notice and talk about Thomas’ character development maybe because it’s overshadowed by Thomas regressing and being shoehorned in every episode where he doesn’t fit and also there are other fans who just see him as a rude and arrogant prick. In a way that is true but there is way more to Thomas to him just being full of himself. Thomas became my favourite around 2010 l think when l was watching an old Thomas tape on my old black TV which showcased his S3-S5 personality.
I've always liked the dynamic between Thomas and Edward, my favorite fan stories always feature those two paired up, especially in the NWR's early years.
Great video bro! I agree that Thomas as a character matured! Especially during the Jack in pack series. Don’t forget about the time he stood up to Sailor John in Lost Treasure! My hope is that Thomas will return to the screen as a better version of himself one day.
This is when I have to thank Thomas for giving me such a wonderful life. I watched Thomas during my youth and he is one of my most favourite characters not only for his slapstick humour, but he also teaches lots of humility and kindness that is similar to my personality all the way even up to my adulthood. For instance, from being so hot-headed and proud in the earlier seasons, to being an engine with a very positive personality, being more thoughtful and understanding with a wiser attitude later on. Throughout the series production, it has always shown to me that Thomas did mature and develop himself into a true leader and role model to all the kids that grew up with him. That’s so true. Even though the cheekiness and teasing is still there, I still think that I was like Thomas (in earlier seasons) in the earlier stages of my life, to being more responsible, mature, humble and empathetic as Thomas in the later seasons as well as my life progressed. As a matter of fact, I am so grateful to have watched Thomas growing up, so that I can learn how to emulate Thomas in the later seasons of his show by being with wisdom, more kinder to others, learning from mistakes, improving my attitude and to ensure that I deeply understand the needs for others before my own. Thank you Thomas for defining my childhood🌟
18:58 I feel like the intention with Thomas' rudeness in "Snow" is due to his pre-existing hatred of snow already having him in a bad mood, plus knowing Series 5 Percy he *definitely* said something to Thomas to tick him off the previous night. And who knows, he may still be holding onto that "Ghost Train" grudge from Series 2.
Thomas' development throughout the classic series was handled pretty well in my opinion. It was fun watching Thomas' antics in Season 1 and interesting seeing how the pride in having his own branchline got to his head in Season 2, and I really love seeing the kinder side of Thomas in Season 3 as he starts to progress into a character more like Edward. I don’t like that Thomas' ruder side came back in Season 4 but I understand the stories they were adapting were stories that were skipped over in Season 2 which is why Thomas was acting more like his younger self. Season 5 However had the PERFECT mix between the cheeky and joke filled Thomas, the impatient and slightly arrogant Thomas, and the kind and mature Thomas from season 3! I like to think that Thomas' impatient and rude personality comes in when he’s having a bad day, like in the episode Snow where he hates the snow more than ever and lets it out on Percy, and I feel they same way with Season 6. The definitive Thomas (in my opinion) is kind and a good friend but will often tease other engines when they’re in a ridiculous situation but means nothing of it, and can tell when not to joke around. Season 7 Thomas is simply too immature for my liking, and while he has some good episodes, I don’t like that they made Thomas & Percy the Bill & Ben of the season but atleast half of his appearances are good! Thomas is one of my favorite characters and I really enjoyed the video!
The way you describe your Thomas kind of sounds like a mix between Toby and Edward. like Toby's humor and Edwards wisdom rubbed off on an impatient and impressionable Thomas in some way. and I like that, that's an interesting take on the character
@Thomtub tbf both are some of the few characters thomas pretty much had respect for right away especially when we compare them to James, Gordon, Henry, Duck, Bertie, Terrence, any new friendly tank engine, and even percy
It’s like Thomas is going through his engine puberty throughout the seasons does he starts out being a little prick then as the seasons progress becomes more and more understanding and caring
That's true from all the episodes from the HIT, CGI and BWBA era that had Thomas starred as the main character or not. At least the ones that had him appear in them or not. I think S17 like S5 was Thomas' grown up season as I think that season is good CGI Thomas to me. Just like with "Snow" in "No snow for Thomas" Thomas being in an unhappy mood takes off his snowplow and hides it so he doesn't have to wear it. He then regrets his mistake when to his horror finds out about Emily taking his passengers in his place just like how they first met and even disobeys Sir Topham Hatt's orders just so he can work without fuss.
This is a great analysis of Thomas' personality and character. What the classic series did correctly was show characters with both strengths and flaws. All of the cast in the classic series had them. We saw character growth too, as we saw here in Thomas' example. From a cheeky obnoxious character to someone who matured and was a voice of reason at times, but, sometimes that cheekiness crept back in. The writing back then was so beautiful. Thomas and other shows followed this formula well. Sadly nowadays, many show creators and showrunners make one dimensional character (ie one is the happy one, another is the grump, etc.) Shows are too formulaic now, too bland, not a tidbit of what life is all about. You don't meet one dimensional people in school or work right? No, everyone has strengths and flaws.
A very satisfactory analysis of Thomas's underlying development in the series. Something to add about Thomas's respect for Edward that was clear to me was when he stuck up for his worth in the episode 'Old Iron', along with Percy who had also come to respect Edward for providing tuition when he arrived. Thomas doesn't give up when the chips are down; neither does Edward. They find their equal in each other in that, and that clearly had some effect in influencing Thomas to become more advising as time went on. Considering you do want to talk about Thomas and Edward's dynamic in another video, I think what I've brought up here should be worth mentioning as a valid case in point. Considering too how you raised Percy's progression in the series music-wise, and how fellow fan 'The Unlucky Tug' recently brought to light Percy's remarkable progression in the classic series on the whole, I think it is well worth elaborating on in another video. Keep that in mind. Regards, Samuel Farris.
I personally prefer RWS Thomas where he went from being young and cheeky to a grumpy asshole but you make a great point and I like to see how he evolved in the classic era
This is why Thomas is my second favorite character of all engines and i think season 3 is my favorite with Thomas development because i shows his kind side to the fullest and i think that's the thing that stick with me over the years who really he is an: useful, kind, cheeky, mature engine and sometimes rude but that's who he is.
Thomas may not have been the main character in the railway series , but in the model series he became a great character. I mean in all honesty most of the model characters are amazing , lot have improvements from their railway series counterparts. It just comes to show the crew of the model series (faults and all) cared about these characters , now weather they truly understood the character , different story, but they cared about them. David miton probably the most caring of them ( I mean the man drew his own map layout of sodor, if that ain't love idk what is). To me season one ( series one for the Brits and everyone else) would not have been made today. I mean season one they were all pretty much dicks to each other. That I don't think would fly today (some for better some for worse) but Thomas is kinda representative of that he's an ass at the beginning of the series but as the seasons go on he actually becomes a fairly well rounded character , he know when to "jab the knife in" when you mess up and he told you before. He also know when to be serious or to joke at that moment isn't right , James and the trouble with trees comes to mind for both points. Another thought on the season 2 bit, how he's not a good role model. I'd say the fact that season 2 being there is why I'd say he eventually would be a decent role model. Like don't get me wrong he's being an ass in a lot of it ,but he fails a lot he takes the hits and doesn't let it go to his head. I think a good example of my point is another franchise, Red Dead. The main character I wanna focus on is John Marston ,former gang member married a prostitute and settled down in the hope of redemption. On face John wouldn't be seen as a good role model , being he was part of a gang ,killed people for money , etc. That's where I'd disagree (not that I'm condoning that stuff) but he is a man that has learned from his mistakes and has grown as a character. I'm saying his flaws are what make him a better role model , like Thomas is in this instance. Also him being the second oldest on the railway has always been something I often forget or I'm like "oh yeah that's right". I mean Thomas and Edward built what the engines run on now ,yet he's played as a younger kid like character that learns. I think it's an interesting point in that , their writing is trying to give off the feel of " there's always more for everyone to learn , even the old guard of Thomas and Edward. Sorry for the essay just thoughts I have, my two cents. Edit :I ended up adding more to my essay sorry for that great video btw.
This video you made was simply wonderful, and I agree, as this character growth Thomas went through in the classic era was wonderful, and honestly underrated, as most people really love the cheeky prick from the first 2 seasons more, and that’s fine and all, but too me, the Thomas from S5 is easily my favorite incarnation of the character and what made him my absolute favorite of the whole franchise. He really felt like a main character in that regard and well, I really wish he stayed that for the remainder of the series. But that’s why we got fan series, as the Thomas in my series is easily the S5 Thomas, or the Thomas the Tank Engine.
Thank you, Mike! 😊 I honestly can't pick a favourite incarnation as I love them all! I'm glad that fans have continued to show us more of this grown-up side to Thomas, it shows us what could have been in the tv show.
I don’t mind Thomas being cheeky and teasing others but don’t like it when the fans regress Thomas and turn him back to a rude, condescending, mean-spirited jerk who looks down on others because that contradicts all the character growth Thomas had
19:07 Maybe Thomas was annoyed about the snow being everywhere and had to clear it. He was on the way to clear snow from a tunnel though in that episode, so maybe that's why he was cross with Percy, but that doesn't excuse the fact that he just left Percy in that snowdrift and didn't help him, so I mostly agree.
Thomas is ment to be us in a way. In life, we all start out as being immature and young with no care of the world. But as we grow older, we start to grow up into being a more mature and responsible version of ourselves.
Idk. Only in theory. We start to regress into midlife crisis around fifty. Also, maturity isn't automatic with age. Especially in the past few generations.
@@neonfroot You're quite right. Think of Jake Paul for example. He's 26 now and he's been acting like a Series 1 version of Thomas, or in other words a 2 year old, all of his life. He's also like Naughty Norman from Fireman Sam.
19:29 Two words: Snow. Plough. Thomas might not mind wearing it for rescue operations but he still hates it and general snow clearing duty. It put him in a bad mood
I really like how the classic series develop their characters there is of what they become and why each character from Thomas & Friends are so likable why Thomas became a mature yet still cheeky engine why Gordon became humbled James’s pride of his red paint why Percy is always quick to anger all the time when he feels mistreated, etc.
At least they were true to the Rev Awdrys style of Thomas’ s character from the original stories showing his early days as cheeky young mischievous engine often getting into trouble to him learning to be more wiser, kinder and respectful to others shown in both the classic model era seasons and in the some of the CGI series and is far better than what the current version of Thomas is now thanks for sharing this interesting video of my favorite childhood steam engine 🚂👍❤️
I freaking love this series. Thomas is still to this day my favorite kids show. And man you nailed why thomas is my favorite out of them all. Also I like how almost everyone uses the thomas anthem cover.
First new video since I subbed. Obviously Thomas fan from childhood but am an adult now. That said,I've been on a kick for Thomas deepdives since I discovered this is a fucking genre haha. It's whacky I'm even jamming to videos like this but ty. This is actually entertaining stuff for a silly Stoner Cook whose heart is still young and fun. Gratitude.
I'll admit I never even noticed it when I watched it as a kid, despite Thomas being one of my favourite characters as a kid (I still love him now in my mid 20's, don't get me wrong, especially since the show has gotten me through a lot of trying and bad days, but I think he is also fighting for top spot with other characters for me too like Henry or Salty, to name 2). However as I came to re-watch the classic seasons over the last year or two (season 1 through 7), I do see that now subconsciously. Now that I've seen this though (which I'm really glad I've seen it now because I had a bad day and this cheered me up, so thanks for cheering me up 🙂), I can see that transition and progression as a character and his growth as well.
well done on this! in my opinion thomas and percy BOTH had the greatest development throughout classic series but thomas has slight edge. Also few fun facts in season 5 Thomas doesn't have a true lead role all his episodes whether main or secondary are shared with another: trouble with trees and make someone happy is more about James, something in the air is way more about henry, cranky bugs is more about cranky, old slow coach is more about old slow coach, rumors is honestly more of a gordon episode. Another aspect of maturity in season 6 I noticed was in world's strongest engine he did not directly interact with Diesel once instead him and Percy casually stood on the sideline pulling a Toby and let the idiot make a fool of himself.
If Gordon has grown up as a character in the RWS, then Thomas definitely grew up as one too in the Classic TV Series. However, I mostly prefer him in S1-5 (The Britt Allcroft persona). That is the definitive good role model influence of said-character. While S6 and 7 had their moments, but I mostly consider them mid-Classic and mid-HiT because while good, they also predict of some really turbulent things coming down the line when HiT bought out the franchise even before Mattel took over. Still, Classic Thomas will always be in our hearts and the kids these days should strive to be like him. The HiT/Mattel version of Thomas feels very frustrating, but that depends on which era/episode/movie you're watching.
Thomas is in perfect character in the Brenner era though thanks to Andrew Brenner from S17-21 which fans still enjoys while the frustrations are very minor to it. You know that.
18:52 I was thinking maybe Thomas was just a little grumpy, or having an off day. I know I sure can be grumpy when I’m having an off day. Or perhaps, he was feeling grumpy about having to clear the snow AND he was having an off day.
Love your video, and I don’t mind if Thomas complains a little when Elizabeth gets away with it. At least Elizabeth humbles herself when Thomas came to her rescue, also I agree that the episode snow should happened early in season 5. Just to have one more of Thomas being impatient, but I love the rest of the season of how Thomas showing sympathy, wisdom, support and helpful. Great job.
I will say Edward and Thomas share a dynamic like grandson and grandfather like me and a blind friend of mine shew was not always blind but knew me since I was out of the assembly line when do she had her sight I kept telling her not to tell me her age to respect elders as a way of respect and letting them know they're still young and loved.
I can sort of forgive the regressions in Seasons Six and Seven since they often felt like things Thomas didn't really come to understand the consequences of. He mellowed out in Season Three but stuff like his teasing of others or apathy towards Henry's bad health weren't really addressed beforehand. I don't think it helps that More From Thomas (one of the last books to really limelight his negative qualities) was scattered throughout early Season Two, when it likely would have worked better as the arc leading up to a more mature Thomas. One detail I DO like about the later seasons though, is that after What's the Matter With Henry, Thomas realises Henry's sickness is VERY real, and it sticks the WHOLE SHOW. He's even the first to voice concern in episodes like It's Good To Be Gordon. I think that's an effective detail, gives you the idea he really lamented over how much he undermined Henry's situation in earlier stories.
As a child I never seemed that interested in the classic era that much, except for season 5 & 6 as Alec Baldwin is my favorite narrator and since I grew up watching the show during the hit era. While I have learned a lot about the show following Brit Allcrofts departure, I’m starting to understand more and more why people prefer the golden era of Thomas and Friends of Seasons 1 to 7. While the hit era and early days of the cgi era will remain a big part of my childhood and liking Thomas more, I’m starting to prefer the earlier seasons back when the show was done by people who knew what they were doing as some episodes during the hit and sharen miller era aren’t that great. Nevertheless, I am glad when Andrew Brenner took over he made things better, and while the cgi era ended up a sour note thx to Mattel, Thomas and Friends will still be remembered for those who made it and what inspired its creation because of wilbert awdrys books which I myself have never read til my recent birthday and love his work. Thx for everything wilbert.
9:33 Since it's already established that Thomas hates the snow and wearing his snow plow, having to deal with both made him more irritable, hence how he treated Percy.
Huh, maybe I'm more like Thomas than I thought. Mostly Season 5 Thomas now. Like, for instance, I'm more friendlier towards older people. Hell, most of my friends are older than me. And I mean, as I'm getting older, I feel like my cheek bones are starting to look more like Thomas'. I don't have triangular eyebrows, though. Plus, I do have that British charm and humour, even though I'm not actually British. But European is close enough, I guess. Maybe I should play into that a bit more.
there was a line in Paint Pots and Queens that stuck with me and I'll be sure to teach the next generation it. hint Gordon says it pushing Thomas to Tidmouth.
I'd never clicked on that Thomas has great friendships with the older engines like Edward and that I very much like as well, Thomas is one of my all time favourites! But Seasons 1 to 5 is my favourite Thomas and this video sums up as well, I like him in season 6 and 7 yes but he did downgrade for me though, loved this video mate! Great work!
Thomas The Tank Engine has been with US so many times and years! Such a really useful engine same goes for all his team! I am just so HAPPY that I have been a fan of TTTE since when I was BORN. Btw as I saw you're channel right now. I subscribed and turned on notifications! So I have a quick question for you: What is you're favorite Thomas & Friends Movie? Mine is (The Great Discovery). Loved to hear you say yours!
Thomas is a very developed character by Season 5, despite regressing by Season 6 and 7 that coincidentally paved way for his portrayal in the HIT era. And regarding that remark in the Season 5 episode, "Snow" where he just gets annoyed at Percy getting stuck in the snow, I believe he's just agitated of having to wear his snowplow, and we all know for a fact he hates wearing it, but at least it's not like in Season 1 where he nearly destroys it, so that demonstrates at least some of his growth.
That’s why l don’t like that HIT episode Thomas, Emily and Snowplough. Not only did the writers make Emily sort of unlikeable it’s the episode where it started this trope of ‘Thomas doing anything to avoid his snowplough’. That trope shouldn’t have come back because while Thomas hates his snowplough, he also understands that without his snowplough, he would be in a situation where he’s stuck in the snow. It was shown in S1 at the end of the episode ‘Thomas, Terence and the Snow’ and ‘Thomas’ Christmas Party’ and even a S6 episode which l don’t remember the title of. I don’t mind Thomas being cheeky and teasing others. I just hate when Thomas is written as a regressed child which goes against his maturity
@@samsea0489 I think the S6 episode you're referring to is "It's Only Snow". The only thing I hate about that ep is when Thomas is wearing a "loaner" snowplow, and not his traditional blue one. But I do agree Thomas (and all of the characters) definitely regressed by S8 when the show was fully owned by HIT, some of his regression definitely started in S6, but not majorly at first, but the signs were there.
14:50 Thomas had let his "cheekiness" died down and as for the tv show, I'd say that "being cheeky" would be another way to describe him as funny rather than rude
Edward not much to talk about since he didn't have a character arc throigh the whole classic series in fact his screentime dropped big time after season 2 Now percy on the other hand I love his growth in the classic series too
The scene in Snow i see it as:
Thomas’ temper is high due to the snow and wearing a snowplow, things he hates, so he’s naturally going to be more on edge and annoyed, so it’s understandable that he’s going to be rather rude because he wants to get his work over with.
That makes more sense.
@@jayheadley8061The snow plow basically put him in a bad mood
Season 5.
Peak visuals.
Peak modelwork.
Peak atmosphere.
Peak soundtrack.
Peak Thomas.
It's all we ever needed.
Without a shadow of a doubt
Yup. Series 5 was the best season
Peak Alec Baldwin Also
Season 5 is the best for some shows, including Thomas.
Edward even references TAB which was really cool.
THIS EXACTLY!!! That's why i love Brenner Era Thomas so much!!! People say he's generic nice guy but he's not, he's still very much Thomas
@@moonlightrider24 Me too.
And than come all engines go where his character is totally ruined.
Their friendship in adventure begins was easily one of the best parts
This is why classic series Thomas is my favorite version of the character. He really felt like he involved as the series went on. He never lost that cheeky edge, but he did mature into a really useful engine.
Heh. Good thing that trait sticks with Thomas through his development since that's the main part of who he is as a character. Some fans has to understand that despite development, main traits always remains with the characters and still enjoyed to this day with no complaints.
I couldn’t agree more
Besides I think we all could be a bit cheeky every now and then
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Definitely.
@@Koopalingfan Glad you understand my case.
I disagree RWS Thomas is a good character and consistent but doesn’t change that much similar with James in the TVS
Actually I think Henry did grow up and it was Gordon and James that remained as is in the tv series.
@@StephTHatt Not really tbh
@@LegendaryCaptainAnd Duncan
It's nice how Thomas develops kinder and more sensible
Agreed
@@cinnamonmantrainsareawesom7224this is why Thomas in my series is more mature and grown up just like Toby and Edward
@@americanengine458 sounds very interesting but he still has flaws of course
True, like in seasons 12-16 where he acts silly, and in the Brenner era where he’s mixed with his RWS personality and kind development all together
@@thusgordonplot4721 But consistent in the Brenner era nonetheless.
this is why I love Thomas himself so much, for his portrayal and arc in both the Classic series AND the Brenner Era and for how much of a perfect mixture of kind, selfless, considerate, optimistic and mature, with cheeky and sometimes cocky.
If this isn’t character development, then what is?
?
Well Gordon had the most superior character journey in the books
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 True though shoutout to Henry he definitely changed quite literally as well. Same with Peter Sam imo his character journey is really underappreciated.
An character arc
Percy?
Man you blew my mind on Thomas and Edward being close friends. I’ve seen original stories of the two working together but I never thought about it like that 🤯
I swear in all of the 584 episodes, 24 seasons, and 14 movies or specials, Thomas has pretty much insulted everyone on Sodor apart from Edward! 🤣🤣🤣
Although neither of them are painted green they are definitely like two peas in a pod. 🟢🟢
Me neither, now that I think about it, it makes sense.
I agree it’s nice to see that honestly 😊
I personally enjoyed Thomas' journey from Seasons 1-5 and I still think those are the best seasons, 3, 4 and 5 will always be the golden days for me ^^
Ikr?
Indeed, Thomas journey has come to a complete close in season 5. Not including season 6, 7 and the rest of the Hit era. To me Thomas has reach his mature point in season 5 and that’s how we like it. Sure even the Brenner era has some good episodes of Thomas being mature, and I love it.
@@kevin-2.1 While maintaining his cheeky side.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Yep
@@kevin-2.1 Thank you.
This explanation of Thomas' maturity throughout seasons 1-7 is very good since some other characters in my projects go through a similar thing as well
I do think when the show was reaching it's downfall it still shows some moments to them since Thomas is also one of my favourites and despite his child-like behavior he is the main stable of this franchise
I truly believe Thomas’s character development post season 5 would have continued in that direction it was going if Britt Allcroft was still showrunner and either TATMRR was successful and how she wanted done or didn’t exist.
And in the CGI Brenner era by Andrew Brenner continuing it. Without TATMRR, Diesel 10 wouldn't exist due to being a great villain. You know that.
Or maybe Britt would’ve been showrunner if she didn’t have an idea of making the film.
Yeah like Lincoln Loud.
This is Why Thomas is my favourite character!
Glad to see, I’m not the only one
@@comicfan1324 No you’re not
Room for another
Same!!
Sooner or later we might form a gang
Unfortunately, the seasons after that completely screwed up his character
@@armorpro573 But mostly remains true to his personality of cheekiness, especially in the Brenner era.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Maybe but they made him way too nice
@@armorpro573 Doesn't bother me since we like him to be nice.
@@DavidBContentExtravaganza3967 Yeah, but it's also part of his character to be a bit teasing at times
Snow and fish are basically what activate thomas getting snappy 😂
This may be unlucky tug talking but I believe in the classic series, Thomas looked across at Percy and up at Edward. In the HIT series Thomas bonded with Percy closer in his separation from Edward
My Boy's All Grown Up. I'm So Proud Of Him.
This is why Thomas was my favorite, and might still be honestly.
I love how Thomas even keeps the maturity he had in Season 5 in Thomas And The Magic Railroad.
Unfortunately that will never happen
26:11 He is honestly one my favorite characters as well.
Great job! I often think of myself as Thomas whilst I think of one of my mates at College as Gordon.
Thomas is one of my favorite characters and I really enjoyed the video!
fish and snow are basically what triggers Thomas's bad mood ever since season 1 that's been the case 😂
Thomas is the best role model because he learns to be kind and helpful to others
Thomas maybe cheeky, but he does grow and stick up for his friends, that's why I love Thomas very much
This is a great analysis of Thomas' personality and character.
The Brenner era is still good though.
This makes me appreciate Classic Series Thomas even more as overtime Thomas matures just like you and me.
Thomas' maturity is one of many reasons why season 5 is my favorite season of this show
Cannot lie with you there mate. Series 5 was the G.O.A.T
Why Thomas is my favorite character is because when I looked at him I kind of saw myself. In a way we all saw Thomas in ourselves.
At least his cheekiness remains and crept up sometimes. You think CGI Brenner era would have continued it either way.
You’re not the only who thinks Thomas is underrated in the Classic series
I don’t mind Thomas being cheeky and teasing others but don’t like it when the fans regress Thomas and turn him back to a rude, condescending, mean-spirited jerk who looks down on others because that contradicts all the character growth Thomas had
@@samsea0489 Thankfully some fanmade projects doesn't have him mean spirited, even in CGI ones.
What I love about the Classic Era all the Engine grew and then Hit reversed it with the Brenner Era bringing it back for awhile.
Thank you for showing this video. You made me realised how much thomas has changed one season after another.
Thomas and Friends is my
favorite childhood show ever.
I really like how the classic series develop their characters there is of what they become and why each character from Thomas & Friends are so likable why Thomas became a mature yet still cheeky engine why Gordon became humbled James’s pride of his red paint why Percy is always quick to anger all the time when he feels mistreated, etc.
I love the tugs character profile stuff you did!
In addition to what you just did!
I LOVE Thomas in seasons 3 & 5.😍😍😍😍😍😍
I have to say, I much prefer Thomas as a happy-go-lucky kids' role model, to basically the tank engine equivalent of Gordon.
good job
Great job.
Wonderful video Cinders mate, best wishes from the midlands as always. Big fan and hope you had a wonderful day. 😊 🚂
I love this blue guy!
5:00 He's smiling just because he's assuming that he would pull Henry's train
Ah yes a great video to go along with a great meal
Great video. I might've included Thomas and the Magic Railroad too
Huh, maybe I'm more like Thomas than I thought.
Watching a Thomas the Tank Engine review and hearing a few casual f-bombs thrown in is generally hilarious content.
Even though Thomas and Gordon had an alliance, Thomas still teased Gordon
I just see Thomas and Gordon as best frenemies sometimes. :P
Sometimes they get along, sometimes they don't.
This is why Thomas is my favourite character!
A totally agree. I believe I have Thomas’ Season 5 theme to thank for that.
To me, seasons 1-5 will forever be the golden age
there was a line in Paint Pots and Queens that stuck with me and I'll be sure to teach the next generation it. hint Gordon says it pushing Thomas to Tidmouth.
Thanks LloydMaster! My favourite Thomas movie would have to be either The Great Discovery, Legend Of The Lost Treasure, or The Adventure Begins :)
it’s a shame that in the rest of the series thomas is character basically fluctuates depending on the plot.
Great video, I have been persuaded to subscribe now. Keep up the good work
Thanks, Welcome aboard!
In the books, Thomas is rude and cheeky, while on tv, he’s more kind and sensible - plus, season 19, he’s sorta in between that
S19 definitely has several moments where Thomas is sensible and sometimes not the sharpest crayon in the box.
@@graysonsvacsandmowers5426 That’s the S6 episode l was talking about
All this time I thought I was an NPC for having Thomas be my favorite character. Probably still am
Not quite, a good few people in the comments have mentioned that Thomas is their fav, and I can honestly say that he's one of mine 🙂
Thomas: What’s up, Percy?
Percy: It’s George! He makes me feel down!
Thomas: Just ignore him.
Probably my favorite Thomas moment from Season 5.
Yeah boy
14:50 Thomas had let his "cheekiness" died down and as for the tv show, I'd say that "being cheeky" would be another way to describe him as funny rather than rude
I like this video alot. You thinking of doing it for other characters such as Edward and Percy? Be really interesting.
Edward not much to talk about since he didn't have a character arc throigh the whole classic series in fact his screentime dropped big time after season 2
Now percy on the other hand I love his growth in the classic series too
I see your point. Over the classic series some characters stayed the same. Edward, Gordon, James and Duck. Toby and Henry are a possibility.
I have considered doing Percy, so that might be something for the future
I know tatmr isnt cannon but his character ark form the classic series is still there
That reminds me, is there going to be a US version of Cinders and Ashes?
Thomas: *ends the story of Duke halfway through*
Me at home: Ultimate troll, man.
And duck doesn't even hear the end of it despite wanting the happy ending 💀
@@LegendaryCaptain yep, he trolled them that time. He pulled the ultimate troll.
Thomas theme is adapted to thomas anthem
