I will admit, Richard J. Browning was actually a good choice here for the narrator and rival captains, and better yet, he is a fan of the series (which is something rare for me to hear and/or see from famous artists). Can't wait to see how he does in the next ones!
So the Unlucky Tug took 40 episodes of in-cohesive, inconsistent screen garbage and made a mostly cohesive TUGS/Salty’s Lighthouse hybrid? Well Tug, I raise my glass to you
Honestly, I can easily imagine Salty's Lighthouse with these kind of Tugs adaptations where Salty's grandfather is a retired Captain Star who took up Lighthouse duty to be with his family. His narration here could be him recounting stories from Star Tug & Marine to his grandson as well as his friends to help them with whatever problem they need solving. An elderly Mr. Conductor but without the gold dust. I mean, the Salty's Lighthouse we got felt like a show that just tossed in Tugs because the same company got the rights to the latter and didn't know what to do with it. Evident with how they took all thirteen episodes and fashioned new plots out of many of them. It can be intriguing in how pre-existing footage can be retooled into a new story altogether. But it still should've been a thirteen episode deal adapting the thirteen episodes of TUGS faithfully enough so they don't gotta bend over backwards for something like, well, the Zorran Rap. Well, here it's clear they could've kept their redub of TUGS close to the original but tweaked to incorporate their concepts for SL.
Very nice! This makes Salty's Lighthouse a lot better. Impressive how you changed Sunshine's color to yellow in the scenes taken from the episode "Sunshine". It's also very nice how you actually changed Big Mac's name on his side to Big Stack, instead of just removing the name all together. Still can't really get used to Sunshine being Ten Cents' sister.
Gives me vibes of how Micheal Angelis contiued to voice even well into the Hit era from season 3, since saltys lighthouse is sort of the hit era version of tugs and Browning does provide a very original sounding voice in my opinion. Loved the little scenes that weren't apart of the original show too, like the tugs waiting and talking at the star peir after ten cents left
"And I'm not sorry about anything" So glad Top Hat didn't change a bit from the original version. As for the rest, I gotta say, you did an amazing job taking the mediocre, 5 minute Tug segments, and turning them into something pretty good. Not as good as the original, but something I could see kids loving and adults enjoying too. I especially like the little touches you made, like keeping Sunshine yellow, and putting "Big Stack" on Big Mac's sides. And Richard Browning makes a great narrator. Amazing job.
You know, with all these U.S. dubs you've done of TUGS, I really wish time machines existed so that a bunch of us TUGS fans could convince those American investors to give TUGS a chance, even if it would mean watering it down a bit for the states [although I wouldn't let executive/writer meddling go too far beyond the show's original vision like what the actual Salty's Lighthouse did]. This is like the perfect US dub [along with the ones you did before, of course]. I just wish TUGS really did make it to the states so that I could have VHS tapes, books and toys based on the show in my collection, standing proudly alongside those of Thomas and Theodore Tugboat.
The effort to make Sunshine yellow is impressive! Had me fooled and confused at seeing pre-star Sunshine not be in their normal white color. Great work!
Sunshine being “Ten Cents’ sister” fills a bit off, but I quite enjoy this viewing it as a different take on TUGS. The way you edited Big Stack’s name and Sunshine’s colour it’s just perfection
Woah! this is actually amazing, the fact that these are all chopped up lines from random Salty episodes, and yet it STILL flows as well as it does! (tbh the narrator lines must have helped a lot!) I can't wait for the next one!
When I was pre-teen and I had heard about "Tugs" being on Salty's Lighthouse, I was actually excited thinking it was a continuation and was pretty sad I missed them due to being at School. Years later, I am very happy say i'm glad I missed them and happy I eventually watched Theodore Tugboat instead.
wouldn't have expected to see so much effort done to this, compared to how I've tackled remaking the TUGS episodes using the dialogue, remastered footage from Salty's Lighthouse, and some unremastered footage from the original TUGS episodes, mine ain't a patch on how clean the changing of Big Mac's name on his hull and turning Sunshine yellow for the shots they were seen as white in the original edit. I also gotta applaud having someone else play Captain Star as a creative workaround for some instances rather than trying to sentence mix, use a sound alike, or dare I say, cloning the original VA's voice using AI.
When I originally found out that this series was going to be a thing a couple months back, I didn’t really expect much out of it but now that it’s out, I can’t wait to see and watch more of TUGS: The Lighthouse Edit
This is something I would have loved to watch as a kid, a proper U.S. dub that kept the spirit to UK TUGS. You’ve done great work, sir! Can’t wait to see more of these great “what if” dubs!
I've never seen salty's lighthouse so putting this all together as an official tug episode was quite interesting. Not to mention the fact that the Zed stacks are not mentioned anywhere here despite them being seen throughout blows my mind! You did a fantastic job on this Nic can't wait to see the next episode.
Ngl female Sunshine really works. Just do a more androgynous take on the original voice and it'd be perfect. And while it is sad to not see female Captain Star I think we can all agree a female descendant taking up the original Star's mantle later on is a great concept.
Okay at first going into this I thought all the edits from saltys light house would ruin the show. But watching this completley changed my mind! Having sunshine as Ten cents little sister is adorable! And I hope to see more of it.
I love how you managed to make Salty’s Lighthouse a lot better by making use of the actual voices and making an actually good story out of it! Small details like Up River Sunshine being yellow or Big Stack’s name being present make the overall experience better.
You've done a great job. I do like how you changed Sunshine's up river colour to yellow to fit with his- I mean, her Star Tugs livery and you actually changed Big Mac's name to Big Stack on the sides of his hull.
What an excellent job! Very proud to say I get to experience this as it's happening; a delightful and monumental part of TUGS' history. Fits together very smoothly. :)
I kinda like the lack of the Z-Stacks’ involvement and turns it into a story of regaining trust as well as putting aside wants for what’s most important. Though the Zeroes could’ve still grounded Big Mac/Stack so Sunshine would be their handicap.
The voices really work here for me. Love the narrator’s delivery and I’m a big fan of the script you were able to piece together here. Could definitely see myself watching episodes of this as a kid vs salty’s lighthouse
Wow cool edit! Your right most if not all of the voices work. Richard J Browning is great as Captain Star. I do find it so weird that Ten Cents and Sunshine are related. Hope you have a great day!
This is shockingly not shit, given the source material. Its not as good as the OG tugs episode but you crafted together a perfectly sensible story from all these lines and sliced it together so neatly and professionally that if I showed it to someone without any knowledge they would have no clue its a fan-edit. I could easily imagine this being on TV growing up.
Ok I’m just going to say it but is it me or does anyone else just hear Ten Cents and Sunshine and go “MAN their voice actors sound like they do alooooot of anime voices?” Like the generic good or young NPC type of characters. No just me, ok.
I get that sunshine is upset that she got yelled at, but I’m sorry, when you ram into the side of a multimillion dollar cruise liner and risk potentially injuring passengers and fine your company thousands of dollars, maybe you should get yelled at?
Look not to be rude tug boy but the voices are a bit strange to hear BUT lt's how they should have handle the us dub so well done budy and happy new year.

Very much agreed
Back then name editing in footage wasn't possible so they needed to black them out.
Tug improved that & even made it more joyable to watch

If Salty’s Lighthouse had been more like this instead, I don’t think it would’ve been as poorly received by fans.
Well LittleBlueTrain67, why not make a Salty's Lighthouse-styled Thomas series, like you planned?

Sunshine slipped away into the mist. Never to be seen again
Man, that was really well edited. I bet if Salty's Lighthouse did that, TUGS would be just as popular as Thomas and Friends.

Same here❤

I find it so funny how Ten Cents sounds like Goku
can't wait to have the whole series
yep they got Ian Corlett himself to play Ten Cents
Otis and Big Stack, i'd forgotten about those renames.
These are actually really well done and I’d totally watch these on tv if these were how they presented saltys lighthouse
I love how edited Sunshine to be yellow.
i had my doubts but now im so excited for the other 12 episodes
I will officially call this the US dub of tugs
Now this is what the US dub of Tugs should've been. Nothing against Salty's Lighthouse of course
I like this edit. Makes me think they could've made Tugs this way, editing some plots into ten minutes segments but keeping true to the original vibe.
It’s ironic that Hercules refers to Sunshine as Ten Cents’ sister, considering Hercules is allegedly his brother.
This was awesome, can’t believe you were able to put this together!
In this version, Sunshine is Ten Cents' sister. While the original version, Sunshine is Ten Cents' best friend. Overall, that episode looks decent.
Lovenit. The voice acting is escpecially perfect and stunning.Great Work! Happy new year Tug 2024 will be amazing🎉🎉🎉
Y'know, after listening to it harder, Ten Cents' voice kinda sounds like Sonic the Hedgehog.

This is a fine piece of work. It's strange to think Ten Cents and Sunshine are siblings according to the Salty's Lighthouse canon.

Not a bad dub by any means, but I can’t get over Ten Cents and Sunshine being siblings. I’d like it better if they were brothers
Great work Tug. This is really impressive.
This is incredible
Fun fact Ten Cents is played by the same person who played Goku in the original ocean dub
