    Very creative. Such an unusual mixture of natural and "straight up n down"! Gorgeous grain. Great job.

    Nice build. Remember, the planer doesn’t make a board flat by itself. It will only mill the top side to mirror the bottom side.

      Have you thought about turning the board over every other pass. Or hand planning.

    Nice work! I'd never seen one of those chainsaw mill guides - let's just say it was good thing you had a planer! =) And you're right, the de-barking WAS satisfying!

      @@BrokeBoysBushcraft Absolutely! I live in central Texas and we have a ton of cedar everywhere. I’ve been into woodworking for a few years now and I’ve just started to get interested in making stuff out of cedar logs and using a chainsaw to process them, because that’s all I have. Cedar is so beautiful. I love the slab you used for the bottom shelf on your girlfriends table. You did a great Job!

    Hi. Can I use tung oil first and then polyurethane or epoxy as the final coat? Thx.

    • @BrokeBoysBushcraft
      @BrokeBoysBushcraft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you just have to make sure the tung oil is fully dried. I would also recommend using an oil based polyurethane instead of a water based

    So what brand and type of chainsaw mill was that? Very cool video.

    • @texaswild7466

      And how did ya get that log to stay still on those boards?

    • @BrokeBoysBushcraft
      @BrokeBoysBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its called the Timber Tough chainsaw mill attachment. Amazon.com sells it for around $20

    • @BrokeBoysBushcraft
      @BrokeBoysBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wedged some blocks into the ground to keep the log steady

    May I ask, about how long did it take you to build this?

    • @BrokeBoysBushcraft
      @BrokeBoysBushcraft  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A couple of weeks but that was with a full time job as well as other life responsibilities. If i had to lump it all together probably around 16 hours.

    Does the wood need to be dried or anything??? Kiln???

    • @BrokeBoysBushcraft
      @BrokeBoysBushcraft  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I let the log air dry in a shed for like a year. Ideally, it would be best to kiln dry but I dont have one. The dryer the wood is, the less likely there is for wood movement and future cracking/splitting. Nowadays, there is such a demand for lumber, most big box stores like Lowes do not kiln dry which is why the boards are usually warped before you can even get them home

      @@BrokeBoysBushcraft good to know. My neighbor just cut down his Cedar tree and I salvaged several chunks. I wasnt sure how long to wait to make some planks out of them.

    did you glue the slab as green wood ?

    • @BrokeBoysBushcraft
      @BrokeBoysBushcraft  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it has been dead for quite a while. However, It was not kiln dried. So far, it has held the test of time lol

      Was gonna ask the same thing, a neighbor of mine is an arborist and just dropped about 20 fresh red cedar logs on his property from a job. I went today and loaded my truck up, he had a bunch of black walnut slabs he did with chaisaw, huge like 3 inch thick 2 to 3 wide 6 feet long. I do Chainsaw carving I cant wait to make something for him as a thank you.
