  • Note: if your MCPCB Board is made of Copper, Then don't put solder on the tip of the soldering iron when you heat up the board, just place the iron behind the board without tinning the tip with solder because solder adheres to copper unlike Aluminium, so if the solder adhered to the back of the Copper MCPCB board then you can remove it easily with a desoldering braid.

this video will tech you How to reflow solder SMD LED emitters on a PCB or MCPCB Using Only a Soldering Iron and Solder Wire, this method works on most LEDs like the Cree XML2, XHP70, XHP50, XPG2, XPG3." and Osram 4715 series and Nichia LEDs
in this Video we will learn How to Reflow 3535 sized SMD LEDs (Cree XP series LED & Osram Oslon IR LED)
This method can also be used to Reflow other LEDs like XML, XHP series, you can even reflow the backlight leds of TV screens using the same method,

This is great for people like me who want to mod a flashlight but don't have specialised equipment. Thanks! 👍

anyone know if this damages the LED?
i was looking at max soldering temp for an LED and it said 115 Celsius
what is strange is that reflow soldering melting point is higher than that, so what now?

Reflowing needs to be done as fast as possible, yes, it can damage the LED sometimes if it was left under the heat for too long or if the temperature is too high.
Try to reflow cheap LEDs first, as you are learning you might damage some of them. And when you gain experience, reflow the expensive ones.

Doesn't that leave solder on the other side of the mcpcb resulting in uneven surface since it's almost impossible to remove it without scratching the board?

Exactly, that's is what is mentioned in the description.. Don't put solder on the tip of the Iron when heating up the back of the Copper MCPCB Board so that the solder doesn't stick to the copper.
It is preferable to use hot air if you are soldering Copper MCPCB board.. but if you don't have it then this method can work using a soldering iron to heat the back of the board without putting any solder on the tip of the Iron so that the solder doesn't stick to the surface of the back of the MCPCB board which keeps the surface even.

What flux paste did u use

A cheap, generic non brand rosin flux paste.. there are better flux pastes.

at the beginning I thought that the flashlight modders were exaggerating when they talk about the heat and its effect on LEDs
but I learned this the hard way 😂
