It puts a strain on our resources (natural and manufacturing), and it increases our social expenditures that leads to high unemployment rate and abject poverty. With a population of close to 120 million and increasing at an annual rate of 1.5% , will be a snail phase economic growth. Sobrang dami na natin.

I have recently been to the Philippines and Vietnam. I realized why the Philippines is lagging behind Vietnam. It has failed to develop manufacturing sector. It has failed to attract foreign direct investments. Vietnam has done both astonishingly well. I can see why foreign companies reluctant to invest in the Philippines. The policy is restrictive rather than conducive. The infrastructure is underdeveloped. Another one is educated labor pool. Compared to Singapore or Taiwan, the Philippines doesn't have enough. That's why. It can not be a significant economy or military power, not to mention a superpower. It lost all the opportunities to develop its economy during the previous regimes. Study how South Korea has become a superpower, from a rag to a rich.

I agree with your comments. The Philippines currently doesn't have the essentials to make it a tiger economy let alone a "super power." The country doesn't have economic policies that are conducive to FDIs. Corruption is rampant.

Vietnam has cheap labor force that most businesses like to invest to get more profit. Manufacturing is not the only parameter to increase the wealth of a nation there are other factors . Take to consider personal consumption. As long as there are many Filipinos who is willing to work and pay taxes it will help. There are new sectors to look into. New tech and renewable energy. There are so many things to tap into like energy before beefing up investments. There’s so many challenges ahead . The secessionist and communist hinders the growth of Philippine economy. Now there’s peace in Mindanao and communist is going to be the thing in the past .. we will be there..

@@wavemaker2077I don’t think so it became weaker.. during the time of marcos ur population was less than 50m. U can check philippines population history. Your supplies and demands are in peak that’s why ur php pesos is strong. After marcos, corazon Aquino privatize total of 122 companies which owned by the government and sold only for 2B usd 😅after marcos, there was a huge decrease of filipinos engaging in agriculture. Since 1919 philippines is importing rice. Reason why Philippines need to import rice because it is a nation of islands without any major river deltas like those in Thailand and Vietnam. But still not much of importing rice since ur population is less than 60% of what you have now. One reason why Philippines was no longer tiger of Asia bcoz u r over populated. U have low supplies and demands, u prefer to buy foreign goods than ur own products. High population causes high unemployment bcoz there was more job seeker than job creation. The country cares too much being a catholic or christian country this is why u failed to control ur population thinking u have quiet small land area compared to other southeast Asian countries.

Majority of the island has few inhabitants and not develop. Put yourself as investors why u will invest in this area if u are lest than 1k inhabitants. The demand is not there.. Investors only invest where demands are high.. Take NCR as example, think why many people across philippines moved to NCR.. that is because everything is there coz the land area of manila is greater than the rest island. investors prefer to choose in big cities coz the demands are there.. What is sad is Davao has greater land area but idk why the city has less investors to give more job to the people.. That is because the population is only 2M compared to NCR. Look at Thailand for example they have huge land area compared to philippines , their population is only almost 70M, they have many jobs than job seekers bcoz the country has more investors than philippines. Moreover, if u see corruption in Thailand is 20% more than Philippines.

Are we going to pretend you didn't just finish paying off that abortion of a powerplant in Bataan? Are we going to pretend that all the infrastructure from that time was not deficit spending??? One this is for sure every country in the world can become super power / regional power. Being a super power not only concern Politics, Military, Economy and Technology. But also influence in Media and Culture.
Claiming a Philippines being a regional power well you need to at least have a Power share of 25% of the specific region,. Where the heck does a Philippines who have only an area of 300,000 sq km can attain that power even in South East Asia? The country is already crowded limiting natural resources for each individual. Sustainability is also a big issue that Philippines is not addressing as they are focus on growth. And practices of Government offices are still far from what is supposedly a Global professional standard.
Future Filipinos are a possibility but these future Filipinos already have different culture and higher economic competence that will adapt suitable to being a super power despite being a small country. But for current ruling generation of Philippines, it a 0% chance of becoming a Regional Power. I safe to safe that Philippines is a struggling and advancing country but not to the level of being so exaggerated to even to be called a Regional power.

I've lived in Philippines for 5 years and I can tell you that they are one of the most warmest people to ever exist though they can be loud sometimes their still good people, but the biggest issue in the Philippines is that their government and situation is very unstable heck even chaotic sometimes, not like japan sometimes you can't really expect any action from the government because theirs already to many problems in the country, I love the Philippines but seeing how many Filipinos trash their own homeland and even a few of my Filipino friends even trash talk their country, telling stories on why they migrated because their country is a massive mess and is beyond saving is just saddening to see, I saw allot of great things in the Philippines and got to know many people, and also saw quite a few fucked up things as well overall I don't really know if the Philippines can change but I hope it can.

They have issues attracting companies to come here because of their business taxes not to mention the inflated price of real estate and a lot of internal issues that I don't see getting solved in the next generation some examples
      1. Infrastructure
      2. Education
      3. Trading Partners
      4. Technology
      5. A more efficient financial system.

I’m a filipino and as a citizen of the Philippines, What it really needs is affordable housing system, Business establishments outside the congested areas like QC, Metro-Manila, Mandaluyong, Pasig and Makati. There are way too many business area that makes the location congested and over-populated.
The Philippines should also have proper limitations on private vehicle ownerships and develop further access for transportation and public highways and transit. Singapore has an integrated subway system which makes commuting very accessible and comfortable for the workers in urban areas.
Develop business district in rural areas like Calabarzon so that manila area would be congested. People flocks in those area because work and businesses are centralized only on those areas which makes transportation and traffic inevitable.
Housing projects and removal of illegal settlers would bring more investments on developing infrastructure for advancing technology and transportation. Soo many illegal settlers congesting in central manila which makes the city even more populated.
Business districts and government housing project and mandatory saving funds should be spread out at the neighboring rural cities like Laguna, Rizal, Valenzuela, Bulacan, Subic, Pampanga, tarlac, la union and pangasinan.

@@emmanuelretana4028 Highly unlikely, sa napapansin ko mas maraming residential area sa NCR and privately owned subdivisions na masasagasaan pag nagkaroon ng initial rehabilitation ng transport highways and subways dito sa manila. Mostly ang mga illegal settlers would just sell their houses there and babalik ng kamaynilaan if kahit ipantay ang minimum wage sa manila.
The only solution is parliamentary system para makita kung saan lungsod laganap ang corruption. Kahit maging minimum wages ang karatig probinsya, ang bagsak ng tax nyan sa manila parin. Parliamentary dapat ang systema para may kanya kanyang funds kada lungsod na di aasa sa mismong NCR ang budget for development ng nasasakupan.
