Man this is the dream. Total peace with no traffic, no neighbors and so much more. I can only dream to be free of the chains of the big city. Everyday it just seems that living that dream only happens to others no matter how much I keep doing my homework about location, tools, local laws and all what it takes. Every bruise you get is a medal you carry in your memory for accomplishing such a hard mission. Yes, I also say, God bless Coleman!!!
Hey Bill, loved your video and find myself identifying heavily with your philosophy on the way of things. Spent 15 years in the IT world before layoffs and other such misfortune. Now that I'm out, I realize its not how i want to spend my life. Nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks a simpler way of life is where it's at. Tired of always being in debt for crap we don't need but are brainwashed into thinking we do...and that should overpay for it. I was raised with a rural upbringing and am working hard at getting back to it. Great cabin!
Wow, that cabin is amazing! great work, that cabin will be there longer than any of us will ever be around for. Thank you for taking the time to share the tour with everyone.
Very, very, cool Billy! Thanks for sharing your story/life/cabin project with us. It's right up my dream alley.....look forward seeing more!....Best of luck with everything, and take care......
Thank you. I so want to be a cabin person. I have told people since i was about 8 or 9 that all i want is a little cabin in the woods with perhaps a little stream running close by. Over the years some other life just seemed to take hold. Marriage, children, education and of course work. Now here I am at 60. The kids grown, divorced and wondering what to do with the remainder of my life. Your video brought that simple dream back although it has always been there somewhere in the very heart of me. You're right about all the stuff that binds you and keeps you from being free. Thank you again. I think it is time for me to prepare to live deliberately.
I'm in the same boat and been think exactly the same at age 54. I always could be found in the woods as a kid whittling wood. But somehow society told me to grow up and sadly I listened. Now is the time to get back to nature , but where do I start so I'm not paying out the butt for land ? I have money in an annuity from two union jobs plus a pension. I can do this....but where do I start ?
Bryan Resch good luck find were you what to live at make shure the local building inspector is not an idiot and find a small log home saw mill the big builder contractor guys may buy from the small local guy but what 3 time more for log cut out middle men there is a mill in vonior or tellico tn i forget witch but his heath was iffy but he was still going 3 years ago google is your friend on finding saw mills asking you tuber that built a home will help you .good luck
For close to two decades i've known that most folks and the things they want and like aren't making me happy...i didn't want a house in the suburbs with a 9-5 job, a pair of fancy cars parked in front of a 2300 sq ft home with 3.2 children... So what did i want? That took me a long time to figure out, not what i wanted so much but how to get there and how to explain it to people i felt i would owe an explanation to... 20 years thinking it through and the last 12 years researching and making plans...and then this guy, on youtube shows up explains so eloquently in a fifteen minute video everything it took me so long to work out for myself, put into words the things i felt and saw and tried explaining to people... Thanks for posting it Billy...by the way, that's an outstanding cabin...
Awesome video Billy. I am from the country and moved to the city due to my job. I am going back home now and your video inspires me to do the same. Simple life is good and living out is by far the better life I ever had. Love the video and this country boy is going home. God bless.
Hey Billy, I sent you a video of my cabin project, I am digging yours, and loving the freedom we find in the simple life, working with our hands and good company. I'll be following your progress. Jon
Billy thank you for producing this video. I to feel am feeling to dependent on society. I often felt like getting rid of it all and getting busy on building a cabin and a new off life style. Seeing this video has helped make me feel like I'm getting closer to breaking free.
I really respect what you are doing and I wish you the best. I have been wanting to buy some land, build my own cabin, build a shop to make stuff for extra money, also get some animals etc. I have this burning desire to get back to a more simple way of life and like you still see a use for tech, but not to the point it runs your life. I hate getting up every day to go in and work for some company and being a slave to this society everyone has come to accept. Again God be with you and good luck on your venture.
Always good to see you back. I take every video you produce as wisdom. Thank you for providing a source of intellectual freedom. It sets me free from this world to listen to your insight. Thank you. Bless you and yours.
Love the cabin Billy. I built and lived in a cabin for a year and it was such a restful place. Wood doesn't reverberate like plaster or (sheetrock) and it's warm!
"There's this funny thing about freedom... It doesn't come with safety straps... and it sure it's afraid to make a fool out of you." Never a true statement made. Just found your channel and started with this video. Love this. Thanks for documenting your journey.
I can always say, I was always free, I made choices on how to live that freedom out... I accept what I want and let go of what seems not important at that time.. I find my lack of freedom is feeling like there isn't any.......... its a great thing to feel less or attack and still know its that moment not a whole life time... smile
Love it! My philosophy exactly. I'm hoping to eventually live a similar lifestyle! I visited the site where Thoreau's cabin once stood and Walden's Pond and the peace and serenity that I felt there never left me. It is my ultimate goal to recapture that feeling and a simpler life. Best of luck to you, you are young and have figured it out!!
I stumbled across this video u explained what I'm feeling...stress headaches loneliness daily I heard a saying are u living or are u existing...for me I'm existing....I envy u doing what makes ur life peaceful
Great video! It's very inspiring. My Wife and I have also started the process of uncomplicating our lives with our two small girls. It's a difficult and sometimes terrifying process but its a comfort to see people like you doing well. Thanks for sharing!
My son bought 4 acres way out in the country and thought I would tag along with him. We lived in a wall tent through the winter, which was pretty much horrible. No electric, water. Wood Heating was difficult as it was pretty cold. I looked like the Michelin Tire Guy for months as I had to bundle up. Finally the house, etc, has come together and life is more comfortable. He has the house, I live in an rv. I have to say I have never been happier or more content. The best part is that this adventure broke me down to the point I really don't care what anyone thinks anymore. I appreciate everything! I know what is important is it has nothing to do with belongings or status.
Excellent points in your video. I am at the same point. Having worked for the government for years and having an advanced degree with lots of student loan chains. Now I wish to do my own thing and be free of the matrix. Thanks again for your story it is deep and very true. I also like the cabin, nice work so far.
Great video!!! Very inspirational!! I am in my 40's and had an awesome career making a very good lifestyle and got injured on the job. Needless to say I now make a fraction of what I use to and am looking for a more simple and meaningful life such as yourself. Again great job!!
Wow man! I love this! I started talking about what happened in 2008 twenty years ago. People thought I was from outer space! I Love your spread, that is some hard work you do and more meaningful than anything you've ever done. Nice Drolet Myriad. You shop with your brain! Mine is two seasons old now, it's GREAT! Thank you for telling your story, today's world needs to hear it! VERY good job, on everything!
I was looking for information about living off the grid in Alaska and I stumbled onto this video. You provide a lot of great information about cabin life and that is exactly how I feel. I'm suffocating in the big city. I need something simpler and I hope to make that happen next year in Alaska. Hope we all find our own little piece of stress free paradise, no matter where that might be.
My boyfriend and I are going to be moving to our hunting cabin within the next 10 months. It's a single story, 2 bedroom cabin about the size of your cabin. There isn't a toilet inside, just a kitchen sink and a stand up shower, so we have to use the out house. It needs some work when we first move in, but I'm so excited to just unplug and basically live off the land.
very inspirational! thanks!! it seems that the more things change the more they stay the same 😉 there has always been folks who question the Norm.....and help keep a contact with our mother Earth and the world's above!
Many thanks to you for such an amazing video! I love your firebox idea and the steel on top of wood is genious!!!! Keep up the great work! Please send more videos!
Bravo Billy I saw freedom, I saw good job, how you set up in cabin! Really nice scenario of your video in some points and escape from boring life.. Thx for sharing ! greetings from Alberta.
Billy, really enjoyed your video. One of the fondest memories of my childhood was when we spent a summer living in a 3 room cabin in Potter County, Pennsylvania. We had spring water for drinking and keeping food cool, wood stove to cook on and kerosene lamps for our Mother to read to us. We were free to explore the hollow and watch the wildlife. Will be downsizing in the next couple of years. Will be checking out the rest of your videos. Sorry about some of the comments from people who are either jealous or have never experienced what true freedom is all about. Ok, I am jealous but in a good way :]
Thanks! It sounds like you had a wonderful summer that anyone should be jealous of! The cabin is all finished and we moved in full-time last June. It's hard to describe how good it feels.
Awesome! I'm in Canada and I have raw land in the 'middle of nowhere'. I have the same idea, though I'm gainfully employed. Just tired of city life and fakeness, pollution, and lack of ample garden space. I'll be hiring the locals to help me as I'm definitely not strong enough to do hard labour on my own. Best wishes.
this is an amazing video. I am in the process of looking for land and houses now, torn between buying a pre built of building. This inspires me and adds to the pro con list. thanks for taking the time to make the video and post it. atb
nice....great video and cabin.... I was a cabin person until I got married and moved to "civilization" 15 years ago.....now I'm ready and working on going back.
Billy, Well done Mate Ye, an Aussie, with an Oregonian Wife. Love the US, visit often. Not better, not worse, just different. Your realization, confrontation with the apparent human status of 'work unit with in an economy', as the GFC has cast so many, genuinely felt: as is the pain you felt flipping over the mill log, your cant hook (home made?),slipping. Owning my own 1600+ acre farm along side a National Park, I to feel the draw of detachment. Its not what happens, its how you handle it! w.p.
Awesome cabin and video. I'm a cabin person too. Well I will be as soon as my youngest is out of school lol. We have the shell and interior mostly done already and will be getting a solar system in this summer. My wife and I cant wait until we can move in permanently. Thanks for sharing. ATB, Steve...
I have lived in a cabin in the woods for 5 years now, it is beautiful and I got everything I had dreamed of, but the truth is it now feels like a prison. I'm ready to move back to the city.
I may have been a little hasty when I hit the "Like" button as soon as the narrator said, "People should be free"... But those words got my attention right away. Nice video!
Keep up the hard work, it's starting to show great rewards. I'm getting to old to start your type of journey, however if I could turn back time............
Awesome message and cabin... I'm in the middle of jumping into this with my land... I own about 9 acres out right down in TN... I have no money, no help with my projects, a bad back and new to the area... With all the hard times a head one thing is for sure... More freedom... Take the good with the bad but either way my fate is a bit more in my hands... Thank you so much for sharing this video...
Great job on the cabin it looks fantastic!!!! Congratulations for releasing yourself from the shackles of society. I'm a new subscriber and I look forward to future videos.
It's exciting to see people like myself who woke up after the 2008 crash. We've been living lies for too long as a society, trying to accomplish the American Dream. Real freedom is not buying into being a consumer of things, but realizing that freedom is about simplifying life, living to live. For me,it's also about coming to the realization that the systems we have as a country are unsustainable and learning to cut them out of my life & stop living the lie. So many still don't get it, sadly.
I shall try if this system allows me. I just watched a Finnish vid of a log cab built by hand, from tree choosing, felling and transport by horse. Experts with experience, totally trad ,the cabin was constructed without machines. Axes were the sharpest in the known Universe, as were the éyes´of the workers. Wonderful. Yours is just as wonderful as, you´ve done it alone. Machine use is fine and dandy. The tech/trad mix is lovely. I have no idea how you connect to anything. Super. Ta v much.
Great job, love the cabin and design. you're on the mark with the "Paid Off Home" belief; with a castle you are your own King..... I'll check your other videos later, great job so far.
This is such an inspiration! There are days where I just sit and cry because I miss the forest. I would choose a misty cold forest over a crowded hot beach any day. I would love to live simply and away from people :/.
hey billy great work ,i just cut my first 4 trees and debarked them ,wow thats some work im building a small log cabin on my 25 acres.i will stay the course this is a dream i have .graet video.
Hi. It maybe looks the best I have seen so far. It must be great to live inside and around it. I live in a hot and sunny country, but I'm sure that the design and materials shall be the same, whatever be the mood. Sincere congratulations. See you.
Sounds like you were narrating my life story. My wife and I are making a similar move. 40 acres off grid living. 1280 acres of state land surround our property. Great video, Should be posting my own soon.
Your doing great job, my sons and I are getting ready to move to the Mountains of Colorado as soon as we sell our home in Fl, one of my boys is in the Music Biz and I do national voice work and its time for a change BIG change, technology allows for that to be done these days while on the other hand I'm looking to downsize on the world coming a million miles an hour, sound crazy right? Im so tired of the life that has been shoved down out throats for way to many years, you are great inspiration to me and others alike buddy it takes a lot of balls to make the jump but some times you have to say FUC-IT! Thanks!!! John
I LOVE this cabin its beautiful! and you are right this world is getting more stressful we must do something and perhaps going off grid is what we need to do
Kudos to you Billy. Love your home. I hope to have something maybe on wheels. Not sure yet. I am not the type of person to do this, but never the less I love seeing all of these people doing what they want and living independently. It amazes me how you do it!!! You got all your wood from the trees?
Hi Sheila, yes all the wood I got was salvage timber from the forest service and timber a road crew was piling up to burn. I just had to haul it back to the mill.
Suspected you had computer knowledge from the editing at the start, was pretty sure you weren't the typical back to nature guy. I did notice the quality of the door before you mentioned it, I guess that makes me an IT professional who like you has another side to him! You put work and thought into crafting your cabin with quality in everything. One thing that has become clear to me is that you buy independence with chores. A 700 square foot house with a wood furnace, well cutting wood for heating is enough independence for me, beyond that it seems it's a choice between slave to work or to nature. Had a good chuckle at the expensive fittings remark. It's very true :)
I got a salvage permit from the forest service to log some trees that had blown down and got some more from a road crew widening a road. The lumber I let dry for at least six months. The logs can be assembled green as long as they're all the same degree of green.
Nice job on your cabin...I really like the Appalachian style log look. And cool that you're in Arkansas...as I am as well. I'm retired, and trying to buy some propertyup around the Marshall area to do what you did back 9-10 years ago.
Man this is the dream. Total peace with no traffic, no neighbors and so much more. I can only dream to be free of the chains of the big city. Hi Kam
Do it mate . If I lived in Canada or the U S, Alaska I would .
The U K sucks , its too late for me to realise the dream .
Not divorced yet but I have the same dream. Semi retired I have the time to do the things I want so I am hard at it.
For close to two decades i've known that most folks and the things they want and like aren't making me happy...i didn't want a house in the suburbs with a 9-5 job, a pair of fancy cars parked in front of a 2300 sq ft home with 3.2 children...

Love the cabin Billy. I built and lived in a cabin for a year and it was such a restful place. Wood doesn't reverberate like plaster or (sheetrock) and it's warm!

The market crash and my ex took everything I owned. I like that you sprang back and am thriving. Our generation gets it. Good luck.
Billy you are a true inspiration. I am a fan! Hope to do this very soon
My boyfriend and I are going to be moving to our hunting cabin within the next 10 months. It's a single story, 2 bedroom cabin about the size of your cabin. I have lived in a cabin in the woods for 5 years now, it is beautiful and I got everything I had dreamed of, but the truth is it now feels like a prison. I'm ready to move back to the city.
Very nice indeed Billy - loved the stair case....cheers.
I've watched this video more than once and love and "like" it every time, well said!! My dream too! Take Care
Being free means, not owing anything to anybody or to any banks. Waking up in the morning knowing the day belong to you.

you are right! i agree.
I may have been a little hasty when I hit the "Like" button as soon as the narrator said, "People should be free"... But those words got my attention right away. Nice video!

I fully appreciate what you're doing and why. And I love the Barn Tin. It's a great look.
Super. Ta v much.
Very nice indeed! And I loved the idea for the firewood box!
Couldn't be happier for you and your family. Beautiful property. I'm just a tad bit envious ;)
Thanks for sharing your story. Best of luck.
AWEsome! ... Love your videos, thank for sharing with the world
Loved it. Love what your doing (and what you have done).
Great story! Nice home! Wish you the best.
Great perspective, awesome job on the video, and cabin. Thanks for sharing.

Billy, you just described my current life and the new life I want.
Then go get it. You won't regret it.
Hi. It maybe looks the best I have seen so far. It must be great to live inside and around it. I live in a hot and sunny country, but I'm sure that the design and materials shall be the same, whatever be the mood. Sincere congratulations. See you.
Wonderful saying. "Freedom doesn't come with safety straps."
great video . cabin life is the best life. free from the rat race. i love the old way of living the older i get. keep up the good work. GOD BLESS
I got a lot out of this, thank you. I'm looking at 24 acres and would do a cabin on a much smaller scale. With my pension I could survive !
Do it!
Yes! As a matter of fact, I am jealous! Congrats!
Thanks!!!
John
Go get 'em John!
you described my life and how I feel perfectly in the first accident 5 minutes of this video
I like what you have to say about the modern world we live in nowadays. Simple = Independence
I LOVE this cabin its beautiful! and you are right this world is getting more stressful we must do something and perhaps going off grid is what we need to do
beautifully done. this is my dream home.
How did I not find these videos earlier:) Love the series so far!
Joe
Suspected you had computer knowledge from the editing at the start, was pretty sure you weren't the typical back to nature guy. I did notice the quality of the door before you mentioned it, I guess that makes me an IT professional who like you has another side to him! You put work and thought into crafting your cabin with quality in everything.
One thing that has become clear to me is that you buy independence with chores. A 700 square foot house with a wood furnace, well cutting wood for heating is enough independence for me, beyond that it seems it's a choice between slave to work or to nature. Had a good chuckle at the expensive fittings remark. It's very true :)
grwat Vedio brew. and also good thinking on your future... best of luck to you Brew.
Good stuff. I feel your pain. Good you , unlike some, are young enough to recover!
Billy,
Really nice video, sounds like you've gained years of wisdom in a very short time, best of luck to you.
Great Job On The Cabin I will Be Watching More Video's Buddy
Very Cool.....Your livin my dream.....congrats!
thanks a lot. I like the layout/design. Appears to be pretty roomy for a couple. I look forward to see any upcoming videos that you may have planned.
I got a salvage permit from the forest service to log some trees that had blown down and got some more from a road crew widening a road. The lumber I let dry for at least six months. The logs can be assembled green as long as they're all the same degree of green.
What a beautiful cabin! Yes, I'm very jealous. lol
Nice job on your cabin...I really like the Appalachian style log look. And cool that you're in Arkansas...as I am as well. I'm retired, and trying to buy some propertyup around the Marshall area to do what you did back 9-10 years ago.
