- Want to make a change in your life? Whether it's getting started on your cabin or simply getting to a better place in life, it's time to break the inertia that's holding you in place. Since the release of the first "Cabin People" video, the question asked most is, how do I get started? My experience was that it was more of a mental hurdle than a physical one. Convincing yourself that you can do it and then making the first move is the hardest step. Episode 2 tackles that issue head-on.
your videos are like sitting next to the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate on a rainy day - a real, genuine warmth to them.
This is one of the most polished, and professional youtube publications I have seen, and at the same time, like a good book, its inspirational. You are a great story teller. I am a former Internet Boom CEO, who just jumped back into another R&D start up, and know that all the money in the world, and its not worth it if you are unhappy. So my current project is my last, and hopefully by next year, I will be moving on to Cabin life. Where I can invent, do R&D, but at my own pace, where there is nature, and peace and quiet. I want dark night skies, with a million stars to be seen, and where I can hear my own heart beating and no other sound but the sound of wind through the trees.
Man, I have never been as moved as I was watching your video. What an enlightened spirit, what an inspiration! You impress me with your simple way of getting right to the heart of life, and I totally agree with all you say. I intend to get back to nature, to "go bush" and live off my skills and knowledge. I will add I am 62 years young and looking forward to retirement, that's when I drop out of the rat race and go on a search for my own piece of Paradise. Peace and happiness to you my friend, and thank you for sharing your philosophy.
How refreshing it is to finally hear someone express what I have been thinking and experiencing for quite sometime now. There is no freedom in being a slave to the mortgage and utility bills, not to mention the time spent at a job you don't enjoy to pay for it all. There are other more enriching things I would rather do with my time. Like the Thoreau quote at the beginning of your episode 1 video, I do not want to come to the end of my life and feel that I haven't lived. I have always wanted a log cabin in the mountains with someone to share all that it has to offer. I do own a home in the mountains of Northern California now, but it is not the rustic cabin that I dream of. I am a single woman and want the cabin life with someone special that has not entered my life. Hopefully all this can happen soon.
Hi Billy, I grew up just north of you in Mid Missouri and now live in South Carolina. I had the same type of experience you shared about three years ago. I planted my first garden, and built a compost bin (first thing I have ever built in my life!). We have taken little steps, but finally purchased our land six months ago. Like you, we are ready to be free. I know it will take time, but each step we take the closer we are to detaching ourselves from the chains we carried for too long. We are learning as we go, and have been blessed with new friends that have shared their knowledge. Thank you for putting into words what I have been feeling in my heart. God bless you, and I look forward to watching your progress.
Hey there, keep it up. It's not always easier, but it's ultimately better. Keep us in the loop!
I really dig this series. It's clear that you have professional production experience. You aren't just rambling on. You have a message each episode. I am making these steps one at a time. I just keep chipping away at my families goals.... Start small and work from there....
Mr. Reeder
I've built thousands of fires but listening to you describe building a fire is poetic!!
Enjoy the videos!! Keep em coming.
You are indeed a true video artist Mr. Reeder. You are tentative to every little bit, piece and sound to make for great videos on subjects people like myself are privileged to watch. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to future presentations of Cabin life-(Something I've had a lifelong passion for). Thank you for sharing!
Amazing, Im 47 and have lived the dream in my mind for as long as I can remember. Just want peace and happiness at the simplest level. We have to live our lives for ourselves and those that wish to be a part of it will be there. Thanks for the reinforcing inspiration.
Dave B
Ohhh... You ARE such a poet! Love your narrations!!!!!!!!! Please, keep the fire burning. Now that I found your channel, I'm going to keep coming back! ("In a world that keeps pushing for bigger and faster... I was looking for smaller and slower...!" *Went right through my heart!)
What a talented and inspiring storyteller. I have had the privilege of living the cabin life three times throughout my life. Twice during my childhood and once as a young adult. These videos are certainly bringing back some great memories, as well as giving me the bug to get back to that lifestyle again. Thank you Billy for what you bring to these videos, and I look forward to seeing more.
Billy, you remind me of my favorite character from one of my favorite shows. Chris, from Northern Exposure. I am a Midwest boy "stuck" by indecision and cowardice in San Diego. Your videos motivate me to take the step in the right direction and live my life as I was meant to. Thank you. One day soon I hope to be living my life in a pair of boots like yours.
I will never look at building a fire the same way again. What a beautiful life lesson.
Love this video. It's a classic; timeless, universally applicable, tells you what to do without telling you what to be. It is so rare when one could find such quality words of encouragement.
If starting my day with this video is wrong, then I don't want to be right!
Your are truly an inspiration Billy. David Creech's comment below echos exactly what I was thinking while watching this video. Simply...Thank you!
Listening to you is so heart warming because what you're saying is the pure truth. I love your videos, thank you for sharing your personal journey with us, it is appreciated and impacting. God bless.
Wow! Deep wisdom and beauty, Billy! This resonates with me, deeply! Thank you so much for being, for sharing
I was expecting a video on cabin building .... what I got was a whole lot more. Thank you for creating your home and this video series. Wet logs in your life... profound. Thank you beaucoup!
Two Episodes watched, in thousands of videos have never subscribed to any, subscribing, Thank You, enjoying very much, and frankly frightened a little by similarity in mindset, but nowhere near as talented at expressing thoughts. On to Episode 3, just wanted to say thank you.
You just made my day! Thanks.. I was going through something today and your words encouraged me.. Everything in life happens for a reason.
Geez Billy, you['re an inspiration! Thank you for posting! Peace and blessings to you and yours!
you should post more of these cabin people episodes. they are very good.
i could watch these episodes forever ...
When I started watching this video I was not expecting to walk away feeling so motivated and hopeful for the future. Thanks so much!

You are simply an amazing soul. Thank you for reaffirming the journey I too find myself embarking on.
I've never had the guts to do what you've done.God bless you and the family. One thing for sure. This video has already changed me.I'm very anti social. But that's all gone, now. You have inspired me.Thank you...
Lots of food for thought here...thanks much for the inspiration to think outside the box and perhaps consider another kind of life.
Wonderful metaphor for life. Brilliantly said and produced
Your stories are amazing, soothing voice and beautiful surroundings!
Getting back to the basics is what we are starting to do at our Home.
Absolutely perfectly created!! Thoughtfully choosen words to describe what you have discovered! Great job! Keep up the video making! Looking forward to more from you.
Thanks, Billy...J.B. here. K.I.S.S. the need to complety unplug is needed as mush as we as people need FRESH WATER. Always taken for granted, assuming it will always be there for them personly.Billy keep them coming.Thank you. J.B.
Thank you. I have watched many videos and few sing your song and none do it so well. They wanna go green. Or simply love nature. But my motive is freedom from being a slave to this economy. I, too, put in the hard work for a dream that doesn't exist. Its heart breaking to see the lie. Thanks for your inspiration. Very touching!
Good job, I know the ice storm you refer to of 2000-2001. It got n. Texas, Okla. Ark, and more.
I was visiting my grandparents in Fayetteville. It was to be a 3 day stay, ended up 8 days. We stayed in our class c old motor home in the driveway, with our dogs. Between the small house and smaller RV, it was an experience never to forget. Thanks for the posting.
Thank you Billy. Tremendous message and beautiful video...
Well done.
Billy you are a poet man. Great stuff
Awesome message and production value! These videos are a real pleasure to watch and carry an important message. Thanks
Well done and well said Billy. We remember the storm of '98 well if that is which you are referencing. We lived out of our fireplace for 9 days, canned soup and a couple of deer in the freezer kept us going. We learned quite a bit in those days, same as you and your father. Here's to burning wet logs..and releasing the demons.
J.
Can't wait to see the progress of your cabin...please share more!

This is fantastic!! You express everything just like how I feel. I am just starting this journey, realizing how much control is over me. Thank you for the inspiration.

Does anyone besides me see a resemblance between Billy's Style, message and coolness to Chris in the Morning from Northern Exposure? Excellent job of conveying the true meaning of life! BRAVO dude.
+WALTER RINKEL that's what I was thinking w/ dennis miller douche bagyness
Please continue making videos like this, they are such an inspiration.

That was beautiful, and I feel as though I can do everything that I have given up on before. I always try to start with the log, but I realize that I need to start with what I can manage.
Had to watch it again, my favorite video on TH-cam.
Great beginning to what I hope is a continuing series. I have subscribed and await for more.
Great job on the video, enjoyed the message. Just cant by into the one match but then again I don't have saw dust laying around just news paper. Your a great writer too. Keep up the good work!

That was a very powerful video. Thank you. Thank you so much, that resonated within me something fierce.
That was beautiful..thanks for sharing buddy.
May God bless you. Thank you for sharing wisdom that can be applied in any situation.
Dude, that was inspiring, awesome and beautiful- also a great interpretation Thoreau! Sending warm and greetings for the new year! Keep doing what you are doing. (Never mind the 26 dislikes- some people don't understand metaphors)
Nyce job. Thanks, that may be the most inspirational thing I have heard in a long time!
Thanks for this video! Looking forward to Episode 3!
You have an amazing gift for making videos. Thank you for sharing.
Had to share with friends. Well done!
(sorry, my wife's TH-cam account name). Good on ya bro! I wish I had the courage you have. I share the same passion for freedom, although I tried to seek it out in the "American Dream", making a lot of money, to accumulate, and make life more "comfortable". But come 2009, it did not seem so comfortable. I applaud you in your efforts and hope I have the courage to follow my dreams, as you did.
Fantastic video production. Keep them coming.
Fantastic video and I hope you keep them coming. Thank you!
Amen brother. So well said on many different levels. Thanks for sharing some wisdom.
God bless.
Really enjoy the time you put into these. Considering a log home, which is why I got here. So now to go reread some HDT writing
This was very moving! Made me cry. Thank you :)
This is so amazing! Thank you so much for the words.
Very deep message, and very needed, thanks for sharing.
Well put. Great analogy 'tween fire (or cold) and life. I've had the very same embers of individual liberty as you've described, yet still I'm tethered by the trappings of "society". But I'm starting the search for my little "piece of the continent; my part of the main". Thanks brother!
Really nice Sir William. Inertia--get over it.
Really great vids. Love this series. Keep em coming!
Excellent video. Thank so much!
I have truly enjoyed this. I have got to learn this.
That was amazing! Went to look for the third episode and saw that there wasn't one. :( I hope you decide to make more!

Great words of wisdom man. Thanks for sharing.
Hey I'm from Hot Springs Arkansas and I'm also trying to buy land and build a cabin so I get what your doing. I just started watching your show tonight. Good show about cabins plus I like the interesting thought in your monologue. Anyway keep on keeping on.
Very impressive statement and video! Great job!
reminds me of listening to "Chris Stevens" on the old "Northern Exposure" tv show.....you are good....love your videos...would love to live in a cabin in the woods!
.

:_ ) That was so beautiful. Thanks for the beautiful words of wisdom. Haven't heard that in a long time. You just gave me strength to keep going with my dreams. Now I love nature more than before and I will find peace in it along with the love of my life :) God bless you. Definitely subscribing to your channel.
