"This is the worst television series of the 21st century." One of the best descriptions of Discovery I've ever heard. When this show finally ends, it will be a day of great rejoicing.
We're going to keep making our videos whether we get monetized or not, but it would be nice to get a few bucks from all the ads youtube runs on our stuff. -Mollie 😊
"They haven't learned anything." Did we think they would? I'm happy to skip this season, like I've skipped the previous two. P.S. Maybe they'll have a scene in which they try to reflect on all the "strange new worlds, new life, and new civilizations" they discovered... only to realize they can't think of any.
Glad to hear you'll be here to support us again through yet another season of this hostage crisis called, Nu Trek! You know, on a positive note, I've been comforted lately by watching Millennial reaction videos to TOS and TNG. This younger generation encountering Star Trek for the first time truly values how good Star Trek used to be. They are amazed by the writing, acting and storytelling. They often say how groundbreaking it was and how much they respect the characters. That gives me hope. I wish I could compare these reactions to reactions of the newer series. However, I have truthfully yet to see a reaction video of past seasons of Nu Trek (for people new to Star Trek). Kinda telling, wouldn't you say?
In 2021, there were many news articles describing Michael Burnham as the "first black female starship captain in Star Trek." This was a terrible lie, as it demeaned the achievements of those who brought to life the USS Saratoga's captain (played by Madge Sinclair) in The Voyage Home in 1986, Captain Tryla Scott (played by Ursaline Bryant) in TNG's "Conspiracy" in 1988, Captain Silva La Forge (played by Madge Sinclair, same actress as in the Voyage Home) in TNG's "Interface" in 1993, and Captain Kasidy Yates-Sisko (played by Penny Johnson) who appeared in 15 episodes across 5 seasons of DS9, from May 1995 to June 1999. That's FOUR black female starship captains whose existence is being ignored by New Trek. This demonstrates the hypocrisy and insincerity of New Trek. LLAP, Dandelion Down
Your channel is very informative and entertaining. Im surprised you havent hit 10k yet. I stated in the comments a few months back that when your channel hits 50k i wish for a face reveal lol.
Some Star Trek stuff happened show up in my TH-cam recommendations and WOW. The number of views that Paramount is getting is hilarious. The season premiere was posted 4 days ago on TH-cam and it has 175K views. And it has more downvotes than likes. So sad what they've managed to do to such an amazing franchise.
I think, at this point, all we can hope for is for these current series to end, Secret Hideout getting the boot and maybe new ownership trying completely over. But even then... *sigh* ... a LOT of damage was done by Secret Hideout to the mythos -- Old Man
19:05 Old Man: “This Discovery series is something that is going to show, when people look back at it, a time when people thought it was important to virtue-signal about moving forward with things, versus actually just moving forward with things.” Mollie: “Let’s not forget the virtue-signalling: it was all about identity, and had zero to do with any kind of morality.” These two comments are right on the mark. 13:00 "... five years from now, what are people going to say about Discovery?" Nothing. I have EVIDENCE that supports my belief that Discovery will sink into a black hole where it will be crushed into a singularity. For the week of Saturday, March 30, to Friday, April 5, (2024), the CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada will show 35 episodes of Old Trek (including TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT). It will not show ANY past episodes of New Trek, though it will show two new episodes of Discovery. This is a very consistent pattern from week to week, that I have followed for a year. This is the most reliable indicator of popularity, because it reveals what people are actually WATCHING. Sponsors are advertising on Old Trek shows, and they are not advertising on New Trek shows. That is why the CTV Sci-Fi Channel is showing Old Trek, and next-to-nothing of New Trek. The same thing is true in the merchandising industry, where collectors say that Old Trek collectibles are hot, whereas New Trek collectibles are almost non-existent. LLAP, Dandelion Down
My prediction for season five of Discovery is that I won't be watching it. I gave up with season three. Having been burned by previous JJ Abrams mystery boxes, won't be touching this one with a ten light year pole. Same for season three of Strange New Worlds. Especially as I've been finding my season one blu-ray box set of For All Mankind much more enjoyable.
@@mollieandtheoldman A show made by some former Star Trek people from the olden times. I recall reading Ron Moore saying he wanted to tell the story of the future we were promised as 60's kids. Being a 60's kid, I'm appreciating it very much.🖖
If MB is on the Mary Sue trajectory, they’ll kill the character and she’ll bless her crew who will be failing to hold back tears as they curse the universe for taking her from them… and after they lay her to rest with the McGuffin she gave her life to protect, somehow it will resurrect her and all we’ll see is her empty grave and the promise that “somehow Michael Burnham returned.”
To be quite honest, I'd be quite happy to see SNW LD any future series to come to and end this year. I'd also like to see the franchise die, and then be revived in 20 years or so.
re: Monitization - off-topic but you can always boost subs, interaction, view time, etc metrics if you have any sort of breaking news in your locality. We all know MSM is tread-marks at this point so everyone is starved for actual news and reporting (definition: look down the street and tell us what you see.) When the trucker thing in Canada happened in 2022, a bunch of rando uTubers got out there and did citizen interviews, etc who had music, repair, all sorts of channels. From 300 subs to 84k and now normalized at 30k subs 3 years later for UOttawaScotty channel here on uTube. That channel is live music and RV repairs before the truckers and back now again - just with a much broader audience that would never otherwise have found the channel. Food for thought....
We'll definitely keep that in mind. We're in a bit of a rural area so it's even less likely that the MSM will show up here than most other places. At least they're leaving the lane open for us. -Mollie 😉
I am going to give it it's due. I think seasons 3 and 4 were marginally better in that they stopped the wholesale cannon violations and character assassinations that occurred in the earlier seasons. But season 4 was worse than season 3. The last 4 episodes of season 4 had Burnham trying to convince Book to get back together - and crying every time he turned her down.
Having Wild, dramatiic and inconsistent swings in character traits, behavior and mannerisms does not constitute character growth. It is just a byproduct of a writing team that has no vision direction or purpose. In season 1, she started out as this stoic, black vulcan, who is also the universe's smartest person and greatest action hero. Yet, in the next season (which admittedly I didn't really watch), she becomes this emotional wreck constantly breaking down in tears., worse than Spock in TOS This Side of Paradise
It actually is a different universe , all new trek is , season 2 of Picard showed that wirh Adam soong and the khan folder , and Strange New Worlds backed it up , it nolonger matters how much they claim it to be canon, or "prime " its not canon to the first 5 , though i guess it could be a spin off universe from the time war in Enterprise , maybe , and it can definitely be the prime universe for the 2009 moivies , but its not the original universe
@@mollieandtheoldman lol I will admit in this instance I am very happy it's a different universe, or timeline , and happily think of it as part of the temporal cold war , so when Captain Archer fixed it and the timeline reset then it took all new trek with it , so non of it really exists
Just wanted to let you guys know, I found STD playing on the Paramount+ YT channel tonight. I'm guessing it's the 1st episode of the finale season. I clicked on it long enough to thumb it down.
Michael Burnham is simply not a good character nor is she really a good captain. I also felt the same way about Chris Pine's Kirk. You just don't put a person in that position and think that you are an instant captain especially someone as erratic as Burnham since she only wants to dominate every situation.
You are spot on with that. She mutinied, got a lot of people killed (including her captain), started a war, had an affair with a Klingon without realizing he was a Klingon even though she had an 'intrinsic understanding of Klingon culture', but we're supposed to believe she's Starfleet captain material. And, yeah, Pine's Kirk wasn't much better. It's been a long time since we've seen Star Trek characters worthy of respect. -Mollie
The virtue signalling is part of how they market Star Trek today. It seems like all Star Trek is about to these producers, is hyping how progressive it is. None of this new Trek is good science fiction, it's more like day time tv drama. I checked out a little bit of Lower Decks and it was childish humor, and I won't be watching their new Starfleet academy show; which sounds even more terrible, if that's even possible! Speaking of cannon, if Picard featured Synths, where are they in the 31st century? Imagine finding a small colony of synths who didnt know they were synths? 🤦♂🤦
That's an excellent point about the synths. Odd how Michelle Paradise said they were so concerned about canon, but I can't recall seeing a single synth in the STD future. -Mollie 🤔
Oh yeah canon didn't matter at all. Wow they're still going the manspaning route, like that's even a thing. Jesus H do these people understand the concept of a broken record? Then again these are the same people who accidentily wrote their version of trek in a different timeline, in SNW season 2.
How can they be so friggin delusional? Smelling their own farts and talking about it like it is actually Star Trek. WTF? Good riddance, it should have never seen more than a pilot episode.
Incase you didn’t know by now “Micheal Burnham” is perfect! 🤣🤣🤣 she doesn’t need to learn! 🙄 She’s a dumb character in a dumb series that nobody asked for…

Only highlights the ignorance of both modern Trek audiences and the current showrunners who don't bother to research 58 years of ST history.

Yup. And I really don't know what to say to people who think this show had good character development. -Mollie
In the final episode of STD, Michael Burnham will go back in time and become the creatress of the universe.
They've already created a church where her mother (the first Red Angel) is worshipped as God -- making Michael the daughter of God.
