As a new player I've been watching all your guides and videos to try and get started. You do an incredible job of breaking everything down into bite sized pieces and I'm so happy you are taking your time to do this. I know it might seem like you're breaking things down too small at times but as a new player who knows next to nothing, every tidbit of information you give me is incredibly helpful!
I might recommend fitting a Size 4 Fuel Scoop over a 3rd cargo rack. 48t of cargo is plenty for a beginner, and wont have someone new to the game out in the rings for too long. Fuel scoop is important! Other than that, fantastic starter build! The Dolphin is one of my favorites even as a long time player. The yaw rate makes it excellent for manual docking. And the boost noise is cute! 🐬
Thank you for this video! I started a week ago and most guides assume I already have over 100 million in my bank. Finding a video that is actually my price range is very helpful :)
Pretty sweet guide. My brother just started trying Elite and has crawled his way up to a type six but wants to earn money a bit better to afford medium combat ships and then go engineering. Took this out for an hour, forgot to set the firegroup for the second limpet for ten minutes and had three pips to weapons so was burning out the lasers in ten seconds for almost the entire hour, still sold 50 units to a carrier in system for 35m. If I was paying attention could've easily made 10x the buy cost of that ship and fittings in an hour.
I thought it was an excellent idea to have a Dolphin as a miner and be able to convert it into a luxurious ship in the future, very versatile, thanks for the video !
Love The Build, It took me 2 weeks to get the cr for the build, mostly doing solo trading... tried painite hotspots, no luck. Went to a Platinium Hotspot and made 10 mill in 1 hour. Thanks a Ton.
Got a multi purpose Cobra Mk3 a DBX and now my 3rd ship the Dolphin miner...great! Thanks man.... Yes I'm going to have to learn to land manually ha ha.
Think it’s great that you are doing entry level vids again Astro. I’ve been playing a year now but love your style, and still pick up good tips on what I consider my ‘revision courses’. It’s still really useful to watch even for seasoned players coz in some cases the meta changers and in others I would simply like to be able to help advise new players (like my son for instance), but with latest advice. Been following you and Ex as my principle content creators since I started playing. Love your style and approach, very easy to digest. Will be an avid fan until the day you migrate permanently onto star citizen 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mimeniia to be fair, that’s a push for my fully engineered FDL (albeit it has no guardian fsd booster but I don’t think Astro’s dolphin has either), so all relative
Not all heroes wear capes my friend.......Thanks a lot for this and all your other videos, I'm not a new user, but haven't the faintest idea when it comes to mining. Now I have the ship, I can now work out how to actually mine (in Colonia)!
7:33 if someone is heading to a commonly used mining system just skip stocking up on limpets, because that system will be full of FCs and on the system map you can check which FC has Rearm service active. This usually shaves off a jump or two from the trip. 9:33 No, the logical connection between the searched modules is "OR", not "AND", so those stations either sell the ship and/or some or most of the modules. It's entirely possible that you go to a station from that list and will only see it selling one of the modules and not the rest, nor the ship.

Hey there! This video really helped me today as I was just starting out with trying mining. I was in a system where I had to jump quite far to get to a system to mine in and I had to refuel once. I realized there was nothing nearby to refuel at AND your build did not consider a fuel scoop in it. I could have added one of course but did not realize right away it was missing that essential part. Of course mining ships usually stay in a system where you can comfortably jump back and forth but yeah. If I didn't have a friend who saved me and basically refueled my ship in open space I would have been screwed! Would be nice if you could consider things like this in future beginner build :D I am not trying to be rude or anything, it was just something that caught me offguard. Your videos are really great!
its harsh, but 1. Mining spots has alot Fleet Carriers who will allow to dock and refuel, also planning your trip is a good idea to visit some stations and refuel or maybe there is carrier in some system ;) Orca is more expensive but has more space for SCOOP. Also some carriers are offering to buy your painite for quite alot money (715k/piece for painite) so trips often arent needed
Fantastic really helpful video for a new player (me). Thanks for your concise explanations of not only how, but why. Really great channel. Thanks so much for your efforts, much appreciated as this game is overwhelming at first without some guidance.
Excellent video! As soon as I login I'll create this Dolphin ship 🐬 and give this a go! However, IF one would substitute for an Advanced Docking Computer, what would you recommend changing?
i had a 35 mil chieftain in storage but wanted a krait or python, used this guide and got enough to buy a krait which just now gave me enough to buy a python, o7 commander
Question about fixed vs turreted mining lasers??? Why would you choose a fixed mining laser over turreted when the specs and the prices between the two are virtually the same. I use turreted and I have never had a problem with them.
In this case I think the point serves two purposes. Although the price difference is just a few thousand credits, it could make the difference for a new player on a tight budget. Also it serves as a reminder for new players to pay attention to the type of hardpoint module they are buying, as the price/performance of turreted vs other types can be substantial.
I haven’t mined yet I’m still working on a build, I just started playing last week. But my question is, if your cargo is full of Limpets...how do you fill it with your mined materials?
Mining in general is a pretty "Zen" way of playing, mining for specifics is about the most frustrating aspect of the game I've met in my month of playing!
I’m extremely new too this game, and I’m using this build. My current ‘home’ system is Nanabozho where would you recommend I could go to make a lot of money fast
I appreciate your attempt, but suggesting a newbie to travel without fuel scoop is horribly wrong. For sure they don't have a fleet carrier in the system, so they are going to jump around. You can bet that at least few of them will end up with no fuel to jump back and lose the ship with all the cargo just mined. I would suggest to remove one of the 2 collector limpets ( i know.. one collector only is slow) and put at least a small fuel scoop, iit will take a lot to replenish the fuel, but will ENSURE that they will be able to come back ( and sell what they mined).
Hey, what class limpet controller (collector) do you need to be able to have a lot of collector limpet out at one time? Where does it indicate number of simultaneous limpet controlled?
What's your advice for mining now that hotspots don't overlap anymore? I am using a Python for multipurpose mining. I dont know if its popular mining spots or not looking properly when I'm in hotspots. Also is there a particular type of star class system that miming rings appear in more readily? Might try looking further a field if it's going to make a difference.
As a new player, I don't recommend the Dolphin. I would start with something like the Adder or the Cobra Mk 3 as a mining starter. The reason for this is, greater space to store cargo recommend having a craft that has at least 3 hardpoints on it as opposed to 2. If you have both your hardpoints assigned to mining lasers, you have NO defensive capabilities against gankers or pirates. And they will often hit you without warning. The Dolphin is also much more vulnerable to interdictions. The best most optimum craft that I would recommend for mining would the Asp Scout or the Asp Explorer. Or possibly the Python. Those are the most suitable to hauling cargo from mining and also are much less vulnerable to gankers or pirates. Plus with the added hardpoints gives you not only mining lasers but also defensive weapons as well.

let the pirates scan you before you start mining then theyll bugger off and let you mine in peace, if its a player then you should just comply with them as you have no defenses
@@raf.b I can outfit a Hauler for exploration and an Asp for mining. No engineering and under half a million each. A Dolphin is not a ship "for newbies".
4 mil is not at all hard to get in a couple hours, using a cobra to get 20t of painite and selling it for even 200k each can get you enough for this build

Perfect, we need more beginner builds under 5 million! I would love entry-level builds for all the "jobs".

Very comprehensive, could’ve done with this when I started.
Type 6 could also be a good mining ship for new players, more cargo space, more collector limpets, a bit less jump range though
