My son is only 16 years old, scheduled for surgery next month. An anomalous RCA and LAD myocardial Bridge. There is so much data out there. I am glad i found this simple video. This is helpful!!!
Maya, how's your son doing now after the surgery? Did he have high cholesterol? I and my boy who is 15 btw have high cholesterol. I'm taking Statin (Lipitor) but since my boy is still young, he is not on any medication. I try to watch his diet... no yolks, animal derivatives such as ghee or butter, no fried stuff, no fast food etc and incorporating lots of vege in the diet, kinda hard to get him to exercise but he says will swim more (Dr says 10 laps a day 2 to 3 times a week is best form of cardio exercise). I am gonna be seeing a Cardiologist next weekend for my case and want to consult him if my son needs to be on Statin for a short period of time till cholesterol level is reduced.
This is exactly what I want to do :) I have coronary artery desease myself and its been difficult but I'll be having surgery on the 12th of august , I hope it works out .. I want to be able to save a life too!
My father is having this surgery at this moment. I am scared a lot, and keep watching such kind of videos all the time. Surgeons really can make miracles by the help of God. Can't keep waiting to go to my dad and see him recovered. God bless all surgeons that save lives
Jawa Bernardo, thanks a lot. He's fine noe, thank God. He goes for walking a lot. Before he was saying had has giddiness all the time. Now he doesn't have. He feels much better. GOD be with your father. Everything will be fine. I know you worry a lot, i was also worried and too far from my dad. Everything will be very well. Good luck
Saw one of these this morning. Very interesting, and looks really painful too! The procedure took about 6 hours. My feet were screaming in agony by the time I got to sit down.
Ali Saab, Do not worry and make the patient feel worried. Yours and your wifes duty now is to make yourself happy to feel him happy and confortable. I work in a hospital and have seen lots of cases on heart. Nothing to worry. Encourage the patient to eat regular diatory food, exercise and medication. It is in both yours hand to keep him healthy in mind to make things come your way. Cheer up... Things will come your way. God promise. Thanks for listening...Krishna
I had a quadruple CABG in July 2008. I entered the hospital Thursday morning and was DC Monday morning. Did my own cardiac rehab and back to work full time (nite shift. 12 hours) after 8 weeks. Due to have my annual stress test in August.
This is very a eliteful vedio. One can under stand how the by pass surgery takes place.People will develop confidence on this surgery. very good vedio for the people above the age of 55 years Ram Prasad, chittoor
@nuttyteacher the internal thoracic artery. the radial artery in your arm and the saphenous vein in your leg are also vessels that are commonly used in bypass surgery. Arteries are preferred though because their walls are thicker much more durable than veins.
wow! that was awesome! thanks i just love the part about the internal thoracic artery, the way the surgeon leaves it connected to the subclavian!! cooool :D
His chances these days are extremely good, in most cases well over 90 per cent. Since I am posting this 3 months after you asked the question, I am hoping that you have discovered this for yourself.
I HAD GONE THRU THIS AND I KEEP MYSELF REMINDING TO TAKE CARE OF MY HEART AND NEVER GO THROUGH THE SURGERY AGAIN AS ITS VERY PAINFUL AND YOU FEEL GOOD AFTER THE SURGERY BUT ABSOLUTE MAINTAINENCE IS REQUIRED EVERY 3 MONTHS ROUTINE CHECK UPS
underwent this surgery and lucky enough i'm in my 1 yr and 2 mos. now and so far i'm pretty well. during the period of my recovery it's really very difficult for me. thanks god for the success of my cabg.
my grandpa is undergoing this surgery this Tuesday. my mother is very sad..she keeps crying all day.. I want him all healthy back at home I want my mother to be happy
He is 78 years.doctors told that he wont be able to handle such a big surgery and went for stent placement which was a success. He is fine now just very weak and lean as if he is competing for size zero competition.
Diamond Forever yes he is fine now! he isnt the same as he used to be before. he needs utmost care attention now just the way a small child does but we r just thankful he came out alive from all the suffering.. at one point we lost our hope.. but miracles do happen :)
RobertjDuncan1; Like DoradoEl1 said, survival after bypass is huge. My nurses/DR's emphasized to keep positive (I've read depression is very common after surgery). I had one 2mo ago, and I was at home 10-days later (I am 44yrs old). My surgery was "off pump" (beating heart), and I received a quintuple bypass (they used arteries/veins from my leg, forearm, and inside my chest). They saved my Life! My dad had bypass 15yrs ago, & my recovery has been much easier than his was.
Well, i dont know where you got your information from, but this procedure is still in use in lots of hospitals around the world. Sometimes a stent is nog enough to widen the coronair artery. In that case, this procedure is a MUST! And yes, it is a very informative animation, thanks for putting this online!!
@GoldKamil I am terribly sorry that you had the misfortune of having these congenital heart defects but I really do think you should learn more about your conditions. I'm surprised to see that you don't seem to be very well informed about your condition and the procedures that have been performed on you so far. For example, it is 'Tetralogy of Fallot' (pronounced fall-o). Please talk to your surgeon and ask him to explain the treatment options- it will help you be more calm and more confident.
Thank you for that video it helped a lot somebody very important in my life had opened heart surgery bypass today the video help me file and explain to me a lot thank you for the video
I had this surgery done 12/07/14; A quintuple (5 bypass). I am about to start playing baseball again on 04/12/15; A difficult experience overall, but a learning one as well.
I too got it done on 11th July 2014 in Mumbai and am thankful n grateful to the doctors n all the hospital staff for taking good care of me! I'm in good health as of now but diet control n walking is a must for all! It's almost 3 years n hope to continue for another few years! I have few friends who are still around after 30-35 yrs of byepass surgery! I didn't get to watch before my byepass but was curious to watch as to what the doctors did to my body but its not that painful as made out by all.... yes, its painful in the mind but not physically! Am glad I underwent and am healthy as of now n cautious in my diet!
@ziogisss my dada just had his surgery 2 weeks ago n my family was nervous, but for some reason i wasnt because i knew they do this surgery all the time, he is 61 yrs old n hes mamking a great recovery :D
...also, even if they make a graft below the blockage; what happens to the upstream portion above the blockage? Wouldn't it stagnate the blood flow in that portion and cause problems and couldn't the plaque from the blockage still break off and go downstream past the new graft insertion point?
@ziogisss Hi, i'm glad your father is doing well. My dad just had this operation on friday and I am at the hospital with him now. He is out of the ICU and in a regular hospital room. I was so worried as well....just wanted to ask how your dad is doing now? Please respond :) thank you!
