    The Difference Between Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, and Heart Failure - 3D Animation
    -
    Learn about The Difference Between Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, and Heart Failure - the difference is that cardiac arrest is an electrical malfunction causing the heart to stop beating unexpectedly, a heart attack results from a blockage that stops blood flow to the heart, and heart failure is a chronic condition where the heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should.

    • @healthdecide

      Thanks for the request. Heart palpitations can be worrisome, but they're usually harmless. Rarely they can be a symptom of a more serious condition like Atrial Fibrillation (AFib)- a quivering or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). I have linked our animation for AFib below.

      @@healthdecide why am I still alive? When I was 9 years old I had a rheumatic fever which led to rheumatic heart disease. When I was having fever, doctor said I had a heart failure. I was given 24 hours to live but I survived and was given so many medicines to take for the rest of my life but due to poverty I have not taken those meds till this day. Doctor also said that I would not live beyond 12 years old because of my heart disease unless I would have a heart surgery but I didn't have a heart surgery, again, due to poverty. Doctor also said that I should not do strenuous activities as my heart would not be able to cope up with the stress. But I survived till 25 years old. But when I was 25, I was diagnosed with coronary heart disease which led me to heart attack. Again I survived. Doctor gave me medicines to take for the rest of my life for my coronary heart disease but I haven't taken those meds till this day, again, due to poverty. Doctor also said that I should have a bypass operation but we didn't have money for that 'cuz as I've said, we are poor. 20 years later since my heart attack, I have been living a normal life. Doing strenuous activities, not taking any medicines at all both for my rheumatic heart disease and my coronary heart disease. And still haven't undergone heart surgery at all. So, no meds, no surgery, only strenous activities everyday but I'm doing so fine. I'm living a very normal life and able to breathe well without any pace maker or stent or whatever. Doctor said that I wouldn't live long but I am now 45 years old. So, why am I still alive?

    So is cardiac arrest just a term for the heart stopping, like respiratory arrest means breathing stops? Meaning a heart attack can lead to cardiac arrest, but they're not the same thing?

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes- in a heart attack the blocked artery prevents blood from reaching a section of the heart and that part of the heart begins to die, but the heart does not usually stop beating during a heart attack. So you are exactly right, Heart attack can lead to (and increase the risk of) cardiac arrest, a disruption of the hearts electrical system to where it cannot pump blood effectively- but they are not the same.

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Being mindful of cardiovascular health is incredibly important. Monitoring blood pressure, normal body weight for the individual, blood glucose, and cholesterol levels can give good basic insights into heart health. Some conditions may require more advanced or regular testing. And if you have a family history of cardiac issues, regular screenings can save lives. Proactive actions like healthy eating, regular exercise, and quitting smoking or tabacco use will positively impact your heart health. We recommend seeing your doctor to evaluate your heart health and understand and address any individual concerns.

    What’s the typical presentation and progression of the last one (heart failure, I think it was)? And the treatment for heart failure? Especially if it’s just not pumping as efficiently as possible and only causing mild symptoms intermittently?

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is a great question, while the other two conditions are often acute events, heart failure can develop slowly over time (it can also start suddenly). Symptoms may present as shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs and feet, weakness, decrease in the ability to exercise, rapid weight gain from fluid, nausea, rapid/irregular heart beats. Bc (like you said) symptoms can be intermittent, sometimes the condition is diagnosed until later stages. So anyone experiencing those symptoms should get checked. Especially with chest pain, fainting or severe weakness, rapid/irregular heartbeat with shortness of breath. The causes and severity of heart failure can vary widely so treatments also vary. Sometimes lifestyle changes and treating contributing factors can reverse heart disease. Other times surgery is needed. Or a combination of medicines may be used. This is why recognizing the symptoms and being seen is so important.

    How can blood clots inside a artery when there's heparin ( an anti blood clotting factor ) is present

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A rare side effect of heparin is a condition called Heparin Induced Thrombocytopenia. It occurs in a very small number of patients, but it has very serious symptoms including worsening of clotting and developing new clots, which can lead to stroke, heart attack, or deep vein thrombosis. Otherwise, (and for most patients) heparin works as an anticoagulant, preventint further clotting.

    Incomplete: Does not explain cardiac arrest indicated in the title of the video.

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We apologize for any confusion - cardiac arrest is explained first in the video from 0:19 to 1:44. In the narration it is first referred to as "Sudden death" a common term for cardiac arrest.

      There is actually a term for that: Cyberchondria. Its the anxiety that comes from reading/ watching about medical issues with some general symptoms online. If you are concerned, regular checkups and speaking with a healthcare provider can be helpful in reassuring you.

    • @healthdecide
      @healthdecide  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are referring to blood pressure: Normal pressure is 120/80 or lower. Your blood pressure is considered high (stage 1) if it reads 130/80. Stage 2 high blood pressure is 140/90 or higher. If you get a blood pressure reading of 180/110 or higher more than once, seek medical treatment right away. A reading this high is considered “hypertensive crisis.”

      It can be, but not always! CPR or an AED can save someone in Cardiac Arrest. Fast treatment for a Heart Attack can save a life (and angioplasty and stenting, or bypass surgeries can be very effective). People can live a long time with Heart Failure, so recognizing the symptoms can get them to a Cardiologist to determine the cause and prescribe treatment. Understanding the difference can help save lives.

      Hello, we are sorry you are feeling afraid. Our hearts are incredible, and this can be a good reminder to check in on how we are taking care of them. If you are worried about certain symptoms, getting a check up with your doctor can help identify any issues or reassure you that you are healthy. You can also take steps to ensure your heart health like stopping any smoking or tobacco use, exercise daily, reduce stress, eat healthy, and hydrate. We wish you well.
