Does Adobe Lightroom EVEN USE the GPU??

  • Let's take a look at how Lightroom Classic 8.4 performs with an ASUS ROG RTX2080 compared to having the GPU turned off in settings. Does it even matter to have a high end graphics card for editing and culling? This is also quite relevant if you edit on a laptop either Windows or Mac because now you can increase your performance by using an external GPU enclosure.
    Sorry for the AF... This video was shot entirely on the Panasonic S1 with the NEW Sigma 35 1.2 and it def pulses focus WAY too much. This doesn't happen with the Pana 50, so hopefully Panasonic and Sigma will give each other a big hug and get some bugs worked out for THE L MOUNT ALLIANCE!!
    Side note - the second half of the video was shot at something like ISO 2000 - so I'd say the S1 does a dang good job in lower light :)

    Hey guys I made a big blunder in this video by saying you can add an Nvidia card into the Razer Core X or other enclosure for you Mac peeps! There are no Nvidia drivers for Mac, so yeah, that's a no go! So if you want to add an eGPU to you MacBook or iMac, you can use the Razer Core X, Blackmagic eGPU or the OWC Mercury Helios FX with an AMD card like the Radeon RX580, Vega 64, Radeon Pro WX 9100 or others like those. Sorry for the goof up! My friend Tom Wright pointed out however that Nvidia Drivers are in the works... So maybe soon :) www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/caeay5/macos_drivers_nvidia_confirmed_that_they_are/

    Hi Cody, thanks a lot for your test, I've got a macbook pro, and I would like to check if by adding an eGPU, I will gain some performance with lightroom ?

    Thank you for this video. I'd love to see if a mid range card like a 2060 would make a difference as imho a 2080 is overkill. Rn I'm rocking an r9 390 but with old Lightroom so I'm wondering if it's worth updating to get the gpu support.

      I feel like a lesser card would work well too. Especially with the new LR 9 update. The main thing that I'm seeing used on the GPU is RAM. So keep that in mind.

    When I tick to use the GPU in the LR preferences the same image looks different in the Library and the Develop modules………

    Been looking for ages for info on a graphics card for photo editing (i use Photoshop) and every other video just talks about video editing in 4K and gaming, so thanks V much for this info.

    How long does it take you (your GPU) to run the new Denoise function?

  • @jaredtennant
    @jaredtennant 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Some quick feedback: Mac eGPU will only work with AMD cards as There are no Mac drivers for NVIDIA cards in OS X Mojave. You video was very difficult to watch, it took 13 min to answer a basic question and it felt like Max Headroom with all the jump cuts.

      Yeah I don't know why I missed that! Sorry bout that. Need to add that in the description. I've just made a couple vids so trying to get it all figured out! Thanks for the feedback

    • @CodyHunter
      @CodyHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GSC Network yeah I know it’s pretty bad! I should have tested it before but didn’t. S1 with the new at that that time sigma 35 1.2. Never will do that combo again for video in AF that’s for sure!

    I got a gigabyte FTX 3060 12gb os.
    Selecting subject is reduced from 6 seconds to about l.5 seconds.
    Noise reduction in lightroom has been reduced from 7 mins to less than 16 secs with this new GPU
    That gtx 1650 was a complete waste of my precious money.

    Edit is sooooooo annoying....... Cutting every second even in the middle sentence......
    And you cannot connect 2080ti to macbook. At least not without extra terminal work.

    Lightroom forced updates is the second reason I don't use Adobe anymore. I hate getting buggy updates and having to suffer because of their incompetence or inability to account for all types of equipment used. The first reason is subscription servitude.

    If you compare graphic card build into processors and external GPU, for example RTX 3080, there will be no difference.

    Mate, got some good content I want to hear. But please... the jump cuts... so hard to watch. Would happily listen to a little waffling and a longer video, to have a well paced video where I feel like I'm not breathing for you. Wish I had your Fuji and your living room though.

    Your editing in this video is very distracting as you cut the movie in every sentence. It's hard to "hear" what you're saying when your voice is at a different pitch after each cut.
