VRAM does become important if you're using Resolve. Once you start using things like temporal noise reduction or optical flow on UHD timelines and greater then it's quite easy to chew up more than 8GB of VRAM. For this reason I opted for a 3060 over a 3060Ti and am glad I did because most of my own projects end up using 9GB+ of VRAM.

    • @theTechNotice

    • @mike78bassmanify
      @mike78bassmanify 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@1pac882 yes, I am very happy with it, for the price. I came from the GTX1070, and the RTX3060 is maybe 25-50% faster. Depending on the game. I chose the 3060 because of the 12gb vram, as I saw the 1070's 8gb being almost 100% utilised in some games. So only the 3060 gave me more than 8gb, other than 3080's and up. Didn't wanna pay that much for just a gpu. So the 3060 12gb gave me a nice bump in performance, and I got RT and DLSS. And yes, I did get the most overkill version of the 3060; MSI Gaming Z with 3 fans. But, price was ok, its huge and overclocks like crazy, cool and quiet. So, yes am very happy with it, both for gaming and Davinci Resolve. Seems well utilised, and does most of the work compared to the cpu. Got the 10600k, a 6 core 12 thread cpu like your Ryzen 3600.

Excellent video for the non-professional creator.
It's worth noting that the 3060 and 3060ti are in fact more different than their simple numbering suggests. The 3060 uses the 106 SKU whilst the 3060ti uses the faster 104 SKU which is the same as in the higher 3070 series, making it more like a downgraded 3070 rather than an upgraded 3060. This also allows the 3060ti to run at a faster memory bus speed (256 bit) whilst the 3060 is only (192-bit)... hence the reason why the 8GB 3060ti outperforms the 12GB 3060. Thanks Nvidia for making things so confusing!
    Update
I've seen various comments that Davinci Resolve would run better on the 3060 because it it able to utilise more VRAM than the 3060ti. This of course is true, but only if the project needs that extra V-RAM. Also, in order to get the best out of Davinci, you need the full Studio version as the Free version has some behind the scenes limitations with how it limits the graphics acceleration.
I assume that all the testing done here by Tech Notice is done using the Studio version and this would of course explain why it performs so well compared to PremierPro.

Ah yeah for those folks choosing which manufacturer you want. They're all more or less the same. The only major differences you need to look out for is. 1 Cost, 2 how many fans, 3 Is it water cooled, or air cooled. 4 How many PCIE slots do you need to reserve at the back of your rig (Make sure it fits). 5 What's more important to you, MAX POWER, or Smallest size/Quietness. Otherwise a 4080 is a 4080 no matter who you buy from.

The most important number is VRAM/dollar.
GPUs have become so powerful that performance does not matter too much. What matters is whether you can do certain things at all, be it CAD / computational physics models / video editing, and there you want as much VRAM as possible. Large memory capacity also makes a GPU future-proof, because model size will only increase over time.

My workflow is all in ProRes Raw 4.2k and I use neat video to denoise.
I want I share that if you plan on doing this type of workflow this plug-in uses only up to 25% of the VRAM for 4.2k resolution.
I currently have a 3090 ti so it can only use 25% of the 12GB (which is painfully slow) it can take 4 days to render a video.
Also, if you plan on doing 6k or 8k raw in the future then a 48GB GPU maybe be a worth it if you are making the kind of income you should be from a raw workflow worthy project.
Denoising aside, I feel like the 3090 ti is almost not powerful enough to handle the color tab in premier specially if you have any other adjustment layers with any effects.

The problem for rendering animations is you would need to get the frame renderings down to 30 seconds/frame so you can do a 10 sec (24f/sec = 240 frames) animation in around 2 hours (this gives you time to edit the animation and re render it the same day). To do this with programs like Blender you need at least 2 GPU's. If the scenes are heavy 2K, or +4K, then since 3080's are only 12Gb Vram that means you will need to go the 3090 series (24 Gb Vram). That should future proof your system for the next 5-7 years (The time it will take to make an animation that needs all the Vram, ha ha ha). Oh and Hybrids perform better because they don't hit their thermal limits as fast (once reached the animation rendering slows down)!

Great video as always! I’m building my pc for video editing but I’m still undecided for which GPU I should go, i edit in davinci resolve and also after effects with projects with a lot of graphics, transitions, 3D elements etc… but I don’t if I should buy the 3060 12 gb or the 3060 Ti 8gb because 3060ti have more CUdA cores , it’s faster, it’s 256 bits but 3060 vram where the software can use…if someone can help me out it would be appreciated

@Tech Notice - Thanks for all your work and info. Could you make a video explaining the new AMD Ryzen 7000 processors in relation to IGPU capabilities? I know that Intel's 12900K, 12700K offer video processing that is beneficial even with a discreet GPU. Will the new Ryzen 7000 processors offer similar benefits? Should I be waiting for the Ryzen 7000 or will I get better support for DaVinci Resolve using a 12900K, 12700K? Thanks again!

Thanks TN - Dec 2022, getting ready to build a system and I see 3080's seem scarce and higher in price. If I am looking at a 13th i9 system; half of my $2400 build is chewed up by a 3080. For the diff of a 3060Ti, I can add a 2nd m.2 and double my RAM. I edit in 4k and 1080; but I want something beefy enough that I could edit in a higher res (like w green screen) and my system not catch on fire. Any thoughts or clarity would be awesome; thank you for your content.

I don’t necessarily agree with some of the wording in the video to much, but a great video none the less, also something to add to that is the size of the cards in relation to the viewers case or motherboard, I recently bought a 3080ti only to find out it was a tad to thick, hitting my mobo power connector so I couldn’t use it even though it fit in the case.

For creators would be amazing a 3070 12gb. If you need those 12gb, your options with nvidia are either a very low end 3060 or a very expensive 3080 12gb. I got a 3080 12gb but is a little overkill in terms of processing power for my needs, then again, 3060 feels like meh. I have no idea why they didn't offer a 3070 ti with 12gb but what you gona do?

Hi. I've got a aging pc in my music studio based around an Intel Core i7-5930K 32GB RAM. It's still doing well for music after 7 years but I was wondering whether I could get some significantly better results for timeline smoothness in Davinci resolve if I upgraded the 4GB NVIDIA GTX 960 Graphics Card to a newer one. This would be for several streams of 4k video with colour grading and some effects. I just don't know whether this is flogging a dead horse or even whether a modern GPU would be compatible with my system. Any advice would be very welcome.

3060 and 3060ti would both be fantastic GPUs. The TI processes faster while your working by about 20%. The 12gb 3060 only shines when you go over 8GB VRAM limit. That's what caused the 3060 to outperform the 3060ti and 4060, but for some software and games, it might crash if it tries to load past that 8GB wall.
