I think this is a theory that has a lot of weight to it. If it does turn out to be true, then Ras’s master must be insanely scary for Wu to want to merge the realms considering how many villains and threats he and the ninja have seen. It’s a similar thing to how Jordana is terrified of what she saw in Rox’s mind to have her so scared when Ras was sacrificing monks to a blood moon. I’m very excited to see how DR progresses with this plot line and all of the Ras’s master stuff!
"Only unity can save us." I think you're right about the importance of that line. Maybe that's why the working title of Dragons Rising was 'Ninjago United'.
6:36 This is an insanely good theory but swapping things a little could make everything make even more sense. The SD of energy being captured caused the merge, his lines indicate that insanely heavily. Wu is caught of guard, even though he wanted to unite the realms, the only thing he does do is make sure the realms unite savely, that's what the "not sure i can do it" line is. This goes against ras and his masters plan, they do NOT want the merge because it united the people and gave them a chance against ras' master. Now they want to undo the merge (like ras said in part 2) and seperate the people to dominate the realms one by one. Great video!
Yo, don’t forget when ras said to Arin that he is trying to reverse the merge making the whole “separated we have no chance” a Stronger argument g Great theory!
6:35 As soon as I looked at this quote again for a few seconds I was like "Wait.... OH MY GOD I get it!" Genuinely a really plausibel theory! I wouldn't be suprised if it were true!
One thing you didn’t mention, that adds to this theory, is that ras tells arin that his goal is to undo the merge, and since wu caused the merge to unite the armies of all the realms against ras’s master, this lines up!
One thing you didn't directly mention but makes absolute sense is when Ras confronts Arin telling him his ultimate goal is to reverse the merge, a target which, if successful, would line up with what Master Wu said about the united/separated thing, because reversing the merge would separate all the realms, making them powerless against Ras' Master, hence the reason why Wu technically said (according to your theory, which I love and totally agree btw) that only if the realms are united do they stand a proper chance against a threat of that level. On another note, I would also like to point out that your work has been utterly amazing! I can watch all of your reviews in repeat! Your opinion is so well-structured and possesses so many sensible arguments such that I find it hard to disagree with you in some areas. When I first watched DR S1, I was feeling like Ninjago was over for me. I was at that time finish High School, having grown up with Ninjago since I was 6, during S1. And with this massive plot change, It felt as though the story was starting to get a bit too overwhelming to me, specially when I found out that a place like The Administration exists. I was too much to me and I didn't like this whole new world. But, my love for DR has since grew, particularly once I started to notice the character work (thanks to you!). These writers are doing an excellent job and I can't wait to see where DR culminates. So far, it has the potential to be like the Oni Triology, for me the peak of Ninjago. That was hella long, I know. If you've read this far, thanks a lot for your attention and commitment to your viewers. Keen to see what next videos you're preparing...
I feel similarly. I be honest DR S1 P1 while hooked me. I ended up stopping in P2 and didn’t get back into it until much later. But DR S2 has me loving Ninjago even more than before. To the point I’ve been buying the Lego sets which I haven’t done since Skybound. And these breakdowns bring a new light to how well the writing is when looking into it
So this is basically the theory I currently have, But I have a few additions to it: The Merge Master Wu planned: I too, think Master Wu planned/caused the merge, But the Merge Wu planned is not the Merge that Happened. Wu's planned merge was Most likely much more stable and safe, I highly doubt Master Wu would risk the lives of anyone in the realms he was merging, but Something happened and the Merge needed to happen prematurely. The Storm before the Merge: This is where my theory slightly differs. I think the storm we saw at the beginning of season 1 episode 1 was not the merge or Coalescence, No, the Merge/Coalescence is what Master Wu did, The storm, I believe that the Storm was the Realm crashing into each other and destroying each other. The merge quakes also kinda supports this because Lloyd Describes the merge quakes as "parts of multiple realms trying to occupy the same space." and with the tares in reality that the merge quakes creates looks like the realms tearing each other apart to me. The death of a Source dragon: We do not have enough information about the said death of the Source dragon, but I'm confident in saying that when that Source Dragon was killed it completely destabilized the realms and is what caused the Realms to start crashing and tearing into each other. Why did Wu cause the Merge: Like I said before, I think Master Wu deliberately caused the merge, But why? Personally I don't think its because he Saw Ras' master or the death or a source dragon in his vision, The reason I think Master Wu caused the Merge was because of two things: 1 Destiny. I think the merge was Something that was inevitable, FSM was able to postpone The Merge, but it was not something he, or anyone could stop altogether, it was going to happen eventually. 2 Master Wu saw the end coming. The end of What? everything. Wu saw the end of the realms, saw the end of existence as they knew it. He saw the realm were going to smash into and destroy each other, The only way to stop the realms from destroying each other, was to merge them, all of them, into one, Hence "only unity can save us, separate, we stand no chance." The Merge that happened: The Merge that happened was Messy and Uncoordinated, People and places went missing, Wu was not prepared and the realms colliding happed to quickly, and most of all, When Wu caused the merge, it split his spirit into pieces, hence the multiple Wu wisps spirits. But yeah, that's my Merge crackpot theory
I can't wait for Wu to say 'There's something I haven't told you yet' for the fifth time when explaining how he wronged this season's villan 20 years ago or something.
"Only be researching the merge lands we will able to save them from each other it mashed be done." " Remember when i sayd i couldn hear the brown screaming like someone was terrorably wrong." I think Ras mabey on to something i think ther is a danger coming.
This is actually pretty well thought-out. I thought the story would do something cheap like, "Wu failed to stop the merge from happening, therefore he caused the merge". But something like this feels much bolder, gives Arin legitimate justification for his disillusionment, and reveals that Ras was actually telling the truth and not a half-lie
Doc Wyatt said that between Bolobo and Shade, one of them is dead. I believe that Bolobo is the dead one, and now Zant-Tanz has his power in Plants, which is just a new name for nature, as I can't see plants and nature as different elements. As for Shade, he looked a bit older then the other elemental masters, so maybe Obscura is his daughter, and just had the power of Shade/Shadow passed down to her.
I dont think Obscuria being Shade's daughter works on the basis that timeline wise it just doesn't line up. She'd have to be like, nine years old as of the present day for her being a direct descendent to make any sense. Most likely outcome imo is that it's the same type of situation as Cinder, where the old master died and the element found someone (persumably) outside of his family. Either that or Shade transitioned lol who knows
@Crusty783 he could have already had kids during ToE, unless shades age was mentioned to be young which i dont remember anything like that. He could have been in his 30's during ToE
My theory is that that wu’s visions are a side effect of traveling through time. Wu could’ve seen the merge happening by glimpsing into the future while he was in the time vortex. Alternatively the time vortex could’ve been what destabilized Ninjago. Maybe the merge was just the realms way of “fixing Ninjago.” All of this is really just a way to explain why wu had a poster saying “Control time, control everything.” However, I do think it works as an explanation.
Wu is son of the First Spinjitzu Master, who we know created entire realms. If he had the ability to create realms, then perhaps he could have also had the ability to combine them! Also, if Ras's Master is so powerful that Wu literally had to combine the realms so all of its inhabitants (Including everyone who's ever lived in the Ninjago Universe since the Departed Realm is included) could stand up united to him, then he must be a truly powerful foe, maybe an Oni, perhaps? Furthermore, I think that Ras’s Master main plan is to gather a bunch of villains together, like what the Overlord did in Crystallized but on a MUCH bigger scale.
I'm not even joking thistheory adds up so well. It also explains Ras saying that his intention is to reseparate the merged lands. He did say "i left out some key details but everything i told Arin was true" Which would definitely be a good explanation.
My theory is complex: before the merge, all 16 realms existed, and in the middle of all these realms was a core that held them all together. Inside the core, all of the source dragons stayed, maintaining the balance in all 16 realms. All source dragons needed to be in the core for the balance to stay. I belive that someone broke the balance by using a dragon icon to summon a sorce dragon, which ruined the balance and caused the merge. I belive it was lord ras, as he summoned the source dragon to imperium, and i belive the dragom icon he used was the old bamboo staff Wu had and heres why: After S7, we never saw the staff again. The time twins and wu passed into the future, and I belive wus staff went so far into the future for lord ras to find it. This makes sense as the staff also lead to the tomb of the first spinjistu master, which establishes its importance already. Its a complex theory but would make sense if true
I think the unity line means even more considered the show was originally titled as Ninjago UNITED. Which would tie in with that completely. I think your theory is pretty close to true just considering that fact alone
I think what happened right before the realms merged wasn’t the merge but was instead what the scrolls were referring to when they said coalescence and maybe it was caused by the death of a source dragon but I think they’re separate events that just happened at the same time and overlapped in ascetic the other realms being visible was the merge the sky’s turning purple with great winds was the coalescence. I think the coalescence would have been a sort of the end where all realms would merge and be destroyed but wu’s power of creation aloud him to pull the collapsing worlds together and cause the merge overlapping them over each other causing power to get stuck between them hence the people stuck in the void space thing.
During the episode were Lloyd becomes the conduit (forgot how to spell) he sees only 6 source dragons symbols (this is in season 1 episode 10) however during season 2 episode 1 we see all 7 source dragon symbols. That source dragon could of been the one that is dead
My theory is that the Overlord returning in Crystalized so soon after his previous defeat in Rebooted (or Decoded if that’s still canon) destabilized the boundaries between the Realms.
I disagree on the sole basis that this happened in a different show to Dragons Rising. Having this new show thats built around fostering a new Ninjago audience randomly decide 2+ seasons in that the inciting incident of it's story was caused in a totally seperate show that ended years ago would be a strange choice imo. Thats just my opinion tho
I think that the Overlord will stay asleep for all of Dragons rising. However I can see him being mentioned along with others villains that the ninja have fought. There will probably be more returning villains from Ninjago in the future seasons of Dragons rising but they will play a minor role like the Fugi-Dove and the Mechanic.
The Overlord really shouldn't return, not unless they can use the opportunity to put him down for good in-universe and thus no longer have any reason or 'need' to bring him back. I would only accept it if it also meant that Pythor returns, and Ras is doing just fine himself already.
I think this is 100 percent accurate, but I also think Wu was planning for this to happen WAY in the future. Like, centuries in the future. Hence why he didn’t tell anyone, because he didn’t think any of them would be alive by then. It doesn’t seem like this was ever something he intended the ninja to be involved in
I had the same theory as you did, Wu must have foreseen something truly horrifying if it pushed him to take such a desparate measure. Man, the more i think about this theory, the more i want Ras' Master to NOT be the strength source dragon as is the most common theory right now, i want him to be some sort of eldritch cthulu like being, something so incomprehensively evil that nothing would be too big of a risk to try and stop it.
@@venjustice6666 i would hope so. The source dragons are one Tier above the FSM, they are reality-benders, so it would make sense that ras' master is equal to them, so one Tier above the Overlord
Really good theory that picks up on a lot of little details I missed out on. I wouldn't be surprised if you're right on the money. I know Wu's past mistakes causing present day problems is a common trope in the series, but I like the idea of a present day mistake causing such massive rippling consequences. I wonder if we'll meet more characters that once met Wu similar to how Bonzle has this entire history with him we didn't know about before
Whatever happens, I just hope that the hands of time are somehow involved, the end of season 7 didn't feel like an actual ending for me. After all, Wu came back, why shouldn't Krux and Acronix? And even if they got aged up so much that they died (like how Wu got aged down to a baby) Then their powers would get passed down to someone else OR the time blades are still out there.
1:40 just to note: I don't think it was actually confirmed that this was 5 years ago. Considering that Arin and Sora were 11-12 when the merge happened and are confirmed to be 15 as of DRS1, I'd say it's been 3-4 years instead as of DRS1. That, and LEGO's official website says it's been a year since the merge.
Really great and interesting theory, this part 6:38 is very interesting and it could be the reason why Ras wants to reverse the Merge so that no one could have a chance of defeating his master. Great video crusty.
alright, I have just started rewatching season 2 and I have a theory... Egalt mentions the last human him and Rontu trained multiple times throughout season 2 part 1, and before I (and others I've chatted with) assumed that this was probably Garmadon. But what if it's Wu they regret training? It would make sense in a few ways I reckon. For starters, it parellels nicely with Garmadon in Shatterspin. It could also explain why throughout the show, Wu uses his powers really sparingly, maybe this is because when he was younger and trying to become more powerful he ended up doing something terrible. Not the most solid evidence, but at least something to consider. But hey, that's just a theory
This is pretty close to the theory I've had but I'd like to add a few additions. For an example if you look and the merge scenes the ones at the beginning of the merge are all orang like the background when ras talks to his master and if you look at the merge things in the sky they look more like there tearing rather than combining, but THEN when the sky is all pink and colorful you can see all the holes in the sly closed up. Hence what im saying is the thing wu said was to early was ras's master trying to destroy everything to be able to dominate the source dragons so to defend them wu merged all of the realms. And thats why ras wants to undo the merge so his master can finish what he was doing.
I have a theory that Ras's master is the creator of the 16 realms, and that he was dethroned by the source dragons, and he was preparing a plan to win them back, and that it would be easier for him to do so with the realms separated. That's why Ras says that he knows about the truth of the universe. And I think Master Wu made a deal with one of the source dragons that he would sacrifice himself so that the realms could merge, considering that one of the source dragons is dead.
I'd say Wu was able to merge the realms using his vague creation esc powers he's seen using multiple times throughout the show. Merging all the realms seems like a lot of power for him to have just always had, but remember Wu seemingly lost his physical form due to it. The amount of power he used to merge the realms essentially killed him, hence why he never used it up to that point.
This is my little theory: I think what we think is the beginning of the merge is actually the realms getting destroyed by a similar event to the mergequake storm, Wu foresaw this in a vision and began researching the merge as a way to prevent this disaster from occurring. But it happened sooner than he thought it would, he knew only 1 thing could save them now: unity (the merge). With what he knew, he managed to prevent the destruction of all the realms by merging them, but it came at the cost of his own soul being split into 16/17 of those "Sprite" orbs we've been seeing around each monastery.
This theory makes even more sense when Ras tells Arin he wants to reverse the Merge, allowing his master to conquer each realm one by one. Great video!
7:08 Alternatively, and while this interpritation is less likely, because Ras's master doesn't tie into it, I like it for being more morally ambiguous, Wu caused the Merge because after the events of _Crystalized_ he generally saw it as an effective way to make the realms stronger and more prepared to face global threats like the bound-to-eventually-return Overlord. The lack of a clearly defined worse alternate fate for the separated realms would make the negative consequences of the Merge all the more impactful. In fact, imagine, if Wu 1) messed up the process of the Merge all on his own and 2) put the realms in a greater danger than they would've been separated due to plunging them into chaos - that would be some hardcore moral ambiguity.
He probably caused by using his powers as he has the powers of creation and it probably has something to do with Garmadon as when the merge happens there are 2 colours, yellow and purple. The colours of Wu and Garmadon. I don’t know how exactly they did it but it has something to do with their two powers specifically. But hey that’s just a theory
The craziest thing on a rewatch of DR Season 2 was that line from Wu, “only unity can save us”. I was genuinely shocked when I heard that and it made a lot of things click.
Honestly solid theory, I could totally see this being the case. Personally, I'd love it if they tied it into the Oni Temple's destruction, like maybe it blowing up was enough to destabilize the realm so much that Wu figured he needed to combien the others with Ninjago to help balance things out or something like that. Will they do that? Probably not lol, but I can dream
I dont think thatd be a great idea given that event happened in a seperate show that ended years ago. Randomly deciding the new era of Ninjago that was designed for new fans was actually caused by a random event from season *fifteen* of a 13 year old show would be a crazy choice imo
Edit( I don’t think wu caused the merge or planned on causing it, he may have known it would happen but thought he would have more time to prepare and maybe find the dragon energy cores to properly tie the realms together without the quakes) I think maybe the coalescence or whatever wu called it prior it what the merge was happening. I think the realms were literally collapsing inward, and by causing the merge it prevented the fracturing realms from all being destroyed together. Instead the realms merged together leaving some pieces of themselves in the void the realms were likely going to be reduced to considering so many people got stuck there which would line up with all the people getting sucked into said void by the merge. Also as for how wu caused the merge perhaps he attempted to use his creation powers to fuse the collapsing realm pieces together, hence him not being sure if he could do it as he hadn’t done anything like it prior. Plus maybe Ra’s masters goal had been for all the realms to be destroyed so they could rebuild the world or some other evil villain motivation that would require the power of a source dragon.
Crusty, I love you for doing these videos!!! The theory is really good, I'm literally already sold it. Can't wait for more videos, you really are adding so much to the Ninjago experience.
one often meets his destiny on his path to avoid it. Wu probably was trying to stop the rise of Raz's master but made it easier but putting everything Raz's master needs in one place
I'm a bit too lazy to go through all the comments or try to condense my own thoughts, but there's a canon Ninjago: Reimagined short titled "Golden Hour" that follows the events of Hands in Time: Lost in Time. Wu and the Time Twins travel to various key moments throughout Ninjago's story, such as Kai choosing to save Lloyd in Rise of the Serpentine: The Green Ninja, the Ninja gaining their pure elemental powers in Legacy of the Green Ninja: Island of Darkness, and even part of Wu's flashback in Rise of the Serpentine: Tick Tock. I believe there's a theory that all of those subtle background changes, through the butterfly effect, caused the Merge- and that they are also an in-universe explanation for the visual character redesigns in Sons of Garmadon. (As a bonus, the short also justifies Garmadon saying "it's all Wu's fault!" in Wu's aforementioned flashback.)
I think the way Master Wu caused the Merge was: Changing Morro's Green Ninja Test, thus making Morro evil, causing the events of POSSESSION, the Destruction of the Cursed Realm, the Fall of the Realm of Djinjago, causing a domino effect until it caused the Merger (And that's why he blames himself for the Merge)
YOU LEGITIMATELY TOOK THE THEORY OUT OF MY HEAD!!! I believe pretty everything you just said and with Wu in the flashbacks I just didn’t know how Wu was panicked during the merge. I hope this theory is right.
I was not even surprised when i learnt master wu caused the merge... like, there are soooo many things he hasn't told them. haven't watched the video yet,but i think that maybe he somehow knew the merge was going to happen , and he couldn't stop it so he blames himself? idk just a theory 🤷
This theory is well thought out, perhaps aswell ras’ master as an all knowing being gets news of wu preparing to merge the realms (maybe he has rivalry with FSM and thats how wu knows about him) and so he gives ras the means to capture a source dragon and offset the balance causing a premature merge, and it makes sense with wu out of the picture now ras and his master want to reset it
wanted to tell u smth interesting the noise the dragon icon lloyd makes is the same noise that is played when the shadow dojo got tped by ras' master does this confirm his master is a sd?
If he did do it intentionally so all armies would unite as well, that also raises so many questions and could retcon everything we knew prior I’m specifically talking about the overlord and his goals, along with the oni & their goals. Similar goals, but why? Was their power also postponing it? Across all the realms at that time, they were definitely the most powerful and I’d say important villains. This also means we could get an insane last season (or two) where certain characters with the most power return, kinda like crystalized except infinitely better. Like imagine a fully done oni Lloyd story, where he can do things the show never showed us, while also using creation at the same time. Imagine that, with the entire main cast, along with the overlord and oni, perhaps the time twins, Garmadon like how he was in s8-10 (also how the comic talked about him knowing shatterspin like father like son is possible again 😂) and tying everything the main cast has learned since the pilots, to fight against this threat if that’s what Wu really fears if he did this due to Ras’s master & the five. That would be beyond insane Sorry I couldn’t help myself 😅
So, I’m guessing that Wu saw Ras’ master or something, tried to see if he could cause the merge as some kind of Divine Move (it’s a move that uses strategy and tactics to turn a losing game into a winning one in the game of Go), but it happened before he anticipated and it backfired in his face.
If Ras’s main goal is really to reverse merge, even though it’s clearly it’s not and this can be backed up because he has been realm hopping way before the merge since he was in Imperium meaning that his plans were already in motion way before the merge started so how can you reverse something that hasn’t started yet? Also, if he did want to reverse the merge, why would he capture the source dragon of energy destabilizing the fabric of reality, and causing the merge to come early?
If wu caused the merged, then that means that Garmadon can undo it. 9:08 I bet the only way to end a source dragon is with a dragon’s natural opposite: an oni, but not an ordinary oni, a source oni
Really cool video man, especially your theories, but I would like to bring my [Most likely not true] theory about Master Wu's Visions. Soo when You mentioned Wu using Spirit Smoke to forse [Idk how to write it] the future, my theory is that Fsm Most likely was a conduit to at least on of the source dragons [Or Dragon Cores] which gave him ability to see ,,possible" future, and that Wu being created/being his son was able to also forse the future, but since he is really old and Fsm Probably didn't have kids for a quiet long time after being a conduit, he needs to use somethingh like Spirit Smoke to enhace this power this much that he can actually see it. Also I have a theory That Since Overlord as the embodiment of Evil existet before Creation itself, and Since we know that Fsm embodiment of Light isn't all long existing, there needed to be a couter part to Overlord who for me is... United Source Dragon. Like Darkness is a counterpart to Golden Power, and what did we saw in The Tournament Temple City that was quickly unlocked by Roby?... 7 Headed GOLDEN Source Dragon, And I suppose that, by Fsm being ,,born" 7 headed Golden Source Dragon Split Up into 7 Source Dragons. Did 7 Headed Golden Source Dragon Created Fsm Soo they could be split up or was Fsm ,,Born" which caused 7 Headed Golden Source Dragon to split up, only time will tell [If my theory Is obviously correct]
My only theory is that Riyu is a reincarnation of the 7th source dragon. I think thats confirmed if im not mistaken. Also I started to analyze Rasses motivs to reverse the merge from a meta point of view. (Also there is a bit of salt in the mix) Ras is a villain, and wants to reverse the merge. He wants ninjago to say like it was before, and doesn't want to see the world evolve or change. Arin as a tryhard ninja fan who prepesents the older fans of the show allies with Ras, becase Arin (aka: some fans) wants Ninjago to return to the status quota, and not changing anything, while failing to see the true potential of the merge. That Arin bit might come from my saltyness against Ninjago insta, couse some reason its cool to hate Dragons rising in there...
Only thing I think happened different is that the "storm" isn't caused by Wu, it's maybe some cataclysmic even caused by the death of a source dragon that literally shattered reality? So Wu tried to combat that by merging the reams, thus the "I'm not sure i can pull it off" bit. I think that's the bit Wu was doing. Otherwise fully agree. i think you cracked the big mystery of the show Edit: Also i think Ras is trying to undo the merge so they're all separate. You're probably aware of that too, just didn't mention it lol
I can absolutely see your theory turning out to be true, cause most of the time, Wu does things for good reasons and being so afraid of a villain that all the realms need to be merged just to stop them would be a pretty good motivation imo
Hey Crusty783. I thought the exact same thing when Sensei Wu said “only unity can save us, separate we don’t stand a chance” but rather than Lord Ras’s master trying to take over all sixteen realms, he or she wants to pull them all inside out into a new parallel realm where Arin’s parents are located. Which is why Lord Ras didn’t tell Arin where they are and why he wants to reverse the merge. 😱
And that's why i think the forbidden 5 worked previously for ras master. They also wanted to dominate the realms one by one and they showed the can but they were stopped at time. And they're very strong, the types of villains ras master would choose
i think Ras's master is the source dragon of strength seeing as he was so agitated and annoyed when he was talking to lloyd, also Ras's whole ideology is based on strength.
I assume he was going to tell the Ninja, but the Merge came quicker than he anticipated and by that point the poor dude was delirious with panic and probably couldn't warn them about Ras' Master
8:05 From what we were told about the story about the dragon cores, the merge is a natural event a force of nature something that is going to happen regardless and the reason why the merge happened early was that Ras captured the source dragon of energy, causing it to become premature.
This is how I interpreted it too. I really don't believe that unity refers to a character named Unity or a Source Dragon of Unity. It most likely refers to the merging of the 16 Realms. Wu saw something, be it Ras's master or something else, he saw it and now only unity can save them.
I have the same idea on the merge and my theory is that raz's master is the source dragon of strength and that he murdered the source dragon of motion also we see raz floating in the air when he talks to his master same as lloyd when he is talking to the other source dragon but it could also just maybe be the time twins on the iron doom cause the sound when raz is floating sounds like the iron doom when it was collapsing just a tiny bit diffirent maybe so we dont notice instantly that season also somehow "Wu" caused the merge maybe he did it by collapsing the iron doom when he pulled out the time blade it also was the time blade of reversal wich he pulled out and that could explain why the merge happened earlier than he expected.
I think that he saw in a vision or something that there's a great danger that will endanger all the 16 realms together at the same time, and with the realms separated it would be hard to travel between realms to face this huge danger, so he merged the realms to be more accessible and easier to protect But he managed to make it in a suitable time to make sure that no body would be hurt but it happened earlier, which lead to all next problems as people disappear and merge quakes... etc
8:49 Also the source dragon of motion says that the death of that source dragon in question happened before the catching of the source dragon of energy meaning it was past tense, and it happened before the source dragon of energy was captured and before the merge was caused
I think that Wu is Ras' Master, maybe he saw that Ras' Master was him and that he mabye hates the source dragons, for what they have done to a person he loved (maybe his mother) and will revenge. He fond lord Ras as a Child in the Wyldness and trained Ras in how he can be strong, but he never learned Ras Spinjitzu. Mabye he saw during the training he gave to Ras that his student a elemental master is and that he the elemental power of Ras can use for his revenge plan. Maybe hehe wanted to use the ninja indirectly for his plan (in the beginning of the Ninjago series), but that later he could not use them for his plan. Mabye he was already using Morro for his revenge plan (with the cover that Morri would be the green ninja). Perhaps the merge was the first step in his plan.
I have a theory that ras master is also one of the source dragons The way his master talks to him looks pretty similar to the way lloyd talked to source dragons (when they show him how to reach rontu)😶
I have no idea how Wu caused the merge, maybe he was like " i forgot to tell you but there is" , typical Wu.
Or 'I should've told you but I didn't' like the time twins
GREAT CRUSTY 783 THE MERGE THEORY NINJAGO DRAGONS RISING
Yeah, that sounds about right as Jay did say he was a living fortune cookie meant to torture them
"I should've told you sooner, but-"
"It might seem crazy what I'm about to say." - Prob Wu
I think this is a theory that has a lot of weight to it. If it does turn out to be true, then Ras’s master must be insanely scary for Wu to want to merge the realms considering how many villains and threats he and the ninja have seen.
It’s a similar thing to how Jordana is terrified of what she saw in Rox’s mind to have her so scared when Ras was sacrificing monks to a blood moon. I’m very excited to see how DR progresses with this plot line and all of the Ras’s master stuff!
Idk i have a bad feeling that he is just the overlord but i would be glad to be wrong
I want to see how ras master and forbidden 5 play a role all in the same story
@@Ninjagos4 the way dragons rising has been setting up arcs it seems like these villans wont fit together
"Only unity can save us." I think you're right about the importance of that line. Maybe that's why the working title of Dragons Rising was 'Ninjago United'.
Maybe it united was the original title
6:36 This is an insanely good theory but swapping things a little could make everything make even more sense. The SD of energy being captured caused the merge, his lines indicate that insanely heavily. Wu is caught of guard, even though he wanted to unite the realms, the only thing he does do is make sure the realms unite savely, that's what the "not sure i can do it" line is. This goes against ras and his masters plan, they do NOT want the merge because it united the people and gave them a chance against ras' master. Now they want to undo the merge (like ras said in part 2) and seperate the people to dominate the realms one by one.
Great video!
Wu causing the merge is such a cool idea I can't wait to see how they explain it
i agree this is an idea with tons of storytelling potential
Yoo agent walker
Yo, don’t forget when ras said to Arin that he is trying to reverse the merge making the whole “separated we have no chance” a Stronger argument g
Great theory!
6:35
As soon as I looked at this quote again for a few seconds I was like "Wait.... OH MY GOD I get it!"
Genuinely a really plausibel theory! I wouldn't be suprised if it were true!
ty magic!!!
One thing you didn’t mention, that adds to this theory, is that ras tells arin that his goal is to undo the merge, and since wu caused the merge to unite the armies of all the realms against ras’s master, this lines up!
Yo this is all adding up
My exact thoughts
So what will the forbidden five do about this? Ras called them for help but they betrayed him, so what will his master do about it?
If this does end up being true then it might explain why ras wants to reverse the merge to make it easier for his master to conquer
Exactly and thats why He says to Arin oh i want to reverse the merge but The thing Arin know is that context matters too
One thing you didn't directly mention but makes absolute sense is when Ras confronts Arin telling him his ultimate goal is to reverse the merge, a target which, if successful, would line up with what Master Wu said about the united/separated thing, because reversing the merge would separate all the realms, making them powerless against Ras' Master, hence the reason why Wu technically said (according to your theory, which I love and totally agree btw) that only if the realms are united do they stand a proper chance against a threat of that level.
And these breakdowns bring a new light to how well the writing is when looking into it
So this is basically the theory I currently have, But I have a few additions to it:
The Merge Master Wu planned: I too, think Master Wu planned/caused the merge, But the Merge Wu planned is not the Merge that Happened.
He saw the realm were going to smash into and destroy each other, The only way to stop the realms from destroying each other, was to merge them, all of them, into one, Hence "only unity can save us, separate, we stand no chance."
The Merge that happened: The Merge that happened was Messy and Uncoordinated, People and places went missing, Wu was not prepared and the realms colliding happed to quickly, and most of all, When Wu caused the merge, it split his spirit into pieces, hence the multiple Wu wisps spirits.
But yeah, that's my Merge crackpot theory
I can't wait for Wu to say 'There's something I haven't told you yet' for the fifth time when explaining how he wronged this season's villan 20 years ago or something.
1:05 don’t worry Crusty. I was spoiled more than 2 months ago 🥲

"Only be researching the merge lands we will able to save them from each other it mashed be done."
" Remember when i sayd i couldn hear the brown screaming like someone was terrorably wrong."
I think Ras mabey on to something i think ther is a danger coming.
EXCELLENT WORK. CRUSTY 783
Maybe Shade thought it was time for his retirement and because he had no children he passed his power to Obscuria who is a niece or something.
@Crusty783 he could have already had kids during ToE, unless shades age was mentioned to be young which i dont remember anything like that. He could have been in his 30's during ToE
@@Crusty783maybe she’s a niece or relative?
I think Wu and Gammadion learn Merge during their own adventure when they were young but don't know when the merge going to happen
Haven't seen you do a theory video in a WHILE, nice!
it was finally time🔥
My theory is that that wu’s visions are a side effect of traveling through time.
And hopefully on a better written scale
if this is the case dragons rising could actually be better than some other seasons imo
I'm not even joking thistheory adds up so well. It also explains Ras saying that his intention is to reseparate the merged lands. He did say "i left out some key details but everything i told Arin was true"
Which would definitely be a good explanation.
You think he’s gonna be a bigger threat than the overlord?
@@venjustice6666 i would hope so. The source dragons are one Tier above the FSM, they are reality-benders, so it would make sense that ras' master is equal to them, so one Tier above the Overlord
@@aquacron4548 yeah I think so too. Especially since the powerscaling for ninjago sky rocketed from this
Really good theory that picks up on a lot of little details I missed out on.
If this is, then Hands of Time would become a amazing turn of events in the ninjago timeline instead of a forgettable season.
Still waiting on those Source Oni to show up and be absolute giga badass villains.
I thought we all already knew that master wu is the real villian of all time
This is pretty close to the theory I've had but I'd like to add a few additions.
I cant believe that Velika was the real villain the whole time
?
@@Trikeboi5 This is a meme from the past you wouldn't get it.
(just type in the name on google plus biosector01
I'd say Wu was able to merge the realms using his vague creation esc powers he's seen using multiple times throughout the show. Merging all the realms seems like a lot of power for him to have just always had, but remember Wu seemingly lost his physical form due to it. The amount of power he used to merge the realms essentially killed him, hence why he never used it up to that point.
This is my little theory:
I think what we think is the beginning of the merge is actually the realms getting destroyed by a similar event to the mergequake storm, Wu foresaw this in a vision and began researching the merge as a way to prevent this disaster from occurring. But it happened sooner than he thought it would, he knew only 1 thing could save them now: unity (the merge). With what he knew, he managed to prevent the destruction of all the realms by merging them, but it came at the cost of his own soul being split into 16/17 of those "Sprite" orbs we've been seeing around each monastery.
waiiittt... remember when ras said his goal was to reverse the merge... this is so that his master can start his attack!🤯🤯
The title ‘Ninjago United’ makes a bit more sense now
The craziest thing on a rewatch of DR Season 2 was that line from Wu, “only unity can save us”. I was genuinely shocked when I heard that and it made a lot of things click.
I completely forgot about the falshbacks in S2Ep15 because of the damn binge
model oh my god :(
:(
Great theory. Another one says that when the iron doom from s7 stops in time it's the event of the merge
Chat, I can't believe Crusty lied to us, how dare he release a video early 😔💔
@@Crusty783 yeah that’s true lol. Still, it’d at least tie nicely into lore
it would kinda but id much prefer something actually relevant to the storyline being told
The immense potential of this reveal is nuts.
hard agree. they could get so much mileage out of this storyline
5:35 also, he said "Not sure I CAN pull it off", very interesting how he used future tense gere
Edit( I don’t think wu caused the merge or planned on causing it, he may have known it would happen but thought he would have more time to prepare and maybe find the dragon energy cores to properly tie the realms together without the quakes)
I think maybe the coalescence or whatever wu called it prior it what the merge was happening.
I like this theory, it doesn't vilify Master Wu which is the trend with his whole "Ninja I regret to tell you" trait
Bro i think Arin's gonna be the new main protagonist and antagonist
But rememeber all, its just a theory, A NINJAGO THEORY!
I think the dead source dragon is Wojira
This video singlehandedly made deagons rising 10x better❤ respect
I was not even surprised when i learnt master wu caused the merge... like, there are soooo many things he hasn't told them. haven't watched the video yet,but i think that maybe he somehow knew the merge was going to happen , and he couldn't stop it so he blames himself? idk just a theory 🤷
This theory is well thought out, perhaps aswell ras’ master as an all knowing being gets news of wu preparing to merge the realms (maybe he has rivalry with FSM and thats how wu knows about him) and so he gives ras the means to capture a source dragon and offset the balance causing a premature merge, and it makes sense with wu out of the picture now ras and his master want to reset it
My theory is Wu wanted to prevent the overlord from coming back so he thought unite the realms overlord won’t be back
wanted to tell u smth interesting
the noise the dragon icon lloyd makes is the same noise that is played when the shadow dojo got tped by ras' master
does this confirm his master is a sd?

I’m specifically talking about the overlord and his goals, along with the oni & their goals.
That would be beyond insane
Sorry I couldn’t help myself 😅
Wow this is amazing theory, you are good ninjagotuber
thank you!! :)
@@Crusty783 its true, no problem
Theory: Ras' Master is the Overlord(I have no proof just a theory)
A oni source dragon interesting
This theory is really solid and pretty cool
thank u!
(Also there is a bit of salt in the mix)
Ras is a villain, and wants to reverse the merge.
The merge is danger to all 16 realms
Only thing I think happened different is that the "storm" isn't caused by Wu, it's maybe some cataclysmic even caused by the death of a source dragon that literally shattered reality? So Wu tried to combat that by merging the reams, thus the "I'm not sure i can pull it off" bit. I think that's the bit Wu was doing. Otherwise fully agree. i think you cracked the big mystery of the show
Edit: Also i think Ras is trying to undo the merge so they're all separate. You're probably aware of that too, just didn't mention it lol
I can absolutely see your theory turning out to be true, cause most of the time, Wu does things for good reasons and being so afraid of a villain that all the realms need to be merged just to stop them would be a pretty good motivation imo
Honestly, I can't find any holes in this theory! Guess we'll just have to wait and see until season 3 drops!
Also dont forget ras plan is to undo the merge 😢
And that's why i think the forbidden 5 worked previously for ras master. They also wanted to dominate the realms one by one and they showed the can but they were stopped at time. And they're very strong, the types of villains ras master would choose
I agree with you. What an incredible theory,i honestly believe at least some of what you predicted will come true
Also we have the closest we’ve ever gotten to canon ages. Sora Arin and Wyldfyre are around 15 in s1 so they’re all about 16 in s2
It also makes sense because in the flashback of the 2nd episode the ninja were flying into the centre of the meege before it exploded
i think Ras's master is the source dragon of strength seeing as he was so agitated and annoyed when he was talking to lloyd, also Ras's whole ideology is based on strength.
1:15 the fact that it says "spoiers" and not "spoilers" is kinda funny. Good video though!
oops😭😭thats gonna live rent free in my head now i fear
That's an incredible theory ! Great video !
thank you!!
I think this theory is great, it makes a lot of sense for wu to cause the merge to prevent some tragedy that he foresaw
I would LOVE for the writers to explain it this way.
I wouldn't have thought about the merge theory better myself
But Master Wu would never want to put Ninjago in danger. Why would he caused The Merge on purpose?
Exactly
Niqqa he explained it
Yeah, Wu did it so all the realms could survive
This is a whole new low for Wu. He needs to start telling the ninja stuff immediately when he knows something bad is coming or an old enemy returns
I think that he saw in a vision or something that there's a great danger that will endanger all the 16 realms together at the same time, and with the realms separated it would be hard to travel between realms to face this huge danger, so he merged the realms to be more accessible and easier to protect
But he managed to make it in a suitable time to make sure that no body would be hurt but it happened earlier, which lead to all next problems as people disappear and merge quakes...
I have a theory that ras master is also one of the source dragons
The way his master talks to him looks pretty similar to the way lloyd talked to source dragons (when they show him how to reach rontu)😶
