      The most enjoyable to my ears was EMC Basic. I did like the snare parts where you were solo on screen, except 4,22,33 not so much. (But I really like the EMC Background Cadences the most....for now). I look forward to see what everyone contributes. I would do one, but my experience in recording myself multiple times is using two tape recorders and switching back and forth...lol.... and I’ve never edited audio/video....maybe another time 🥁🎼

    • @marimbalick8163
      @marimbalick8163 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, I've been playing marching drums for about 6 years and have become (relatively) well rounded on each instrument. One piece of advice I would give is to remember that everything starts with your 8's legato exercise. If I were you I'd look at some exercises on SnareScience.com and practice whatever you can get your hands on that you enjoy playing. Remember that playing music is all about fun and if you're not having fun you should take a break for a little bit and drink some water. Also remember that in the beginning you aren't going to sound amazing and you have to be ok with sounding "bad" before you sound "good." All that being said, once you start getting serious about music, do yourself the favor of never giving up because you will regret it if you do!

    • @owen1085
      @owen1085 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      marimbalick thank you so much, do you have any tips on flam exercises or hybrids

    • @vssshadow4353
      @vssshadow4353 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@owen1085 Hey I've also been playing about 6 years. For flam and hybrid rudiments, I've always been told to start slow and separate your hands. For example, start your metronome at a slow tempo, and then play the rudiment, but keep one hand on the drum or pad and move the other hand to like your leg. This helps break down what each hand is doing in the rudiments and leads to a better understanding of them. Once you get comfortable playing them straight through at a slow tempo, work on speeding them up and maintaining good rhythmic quality and a nice sound on your flams. Eventually, incorporating the 421 grid accent pattern with accents is a good way to practice them. If you struggle with the grid part, don't beat yourself up. It's not the easiest thing to do. In summary, start slow, separate your hands, slowly build tempo, and learn them in 421 grid form

    • @marimbalick8163
      @marimbalick8163 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@owen1085 as far as flam exercises and hybrid goes, like the other person said, take it slow for sure. I would personally first work on the sound of your flam. Keep in mind that the grace note (or the little note behind the regular note) is never going to be higher than an inch or two. When you look at your playing position, both of your sticks should be about an inch or two off the drum whenever you aren't playing anything; this ties into how you can treat your flams. When you set up to play a flam, your one stick should be up while the other should not have moved. This will help you really clean up the sound of your flam. From there, really work on the sound of your flam accent rudiment. Take it slow and listen to every part of your sound. If you are practicing in triplets, make sure your triplet rhythm isn't being "rushed" or "dragged" by adding in the flam. Also make sure the sound of your flams is not being affected by adding extra notes in between playing your flams.

    • @marimbalick8163
      @marimbalick8163 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@owen1085 hybrid rudiments are my absolute favorite and I have a lot to say about those but I'll keep it short for your sake. What I would do for hybrid rudiments is to start with the triplet grid. Do it with just accents and then add in single diddles to your grid. You want to practice playing accented diddles and non-accented diddles so that when you get ready to add those into your flams (i.e cheeses, flam drags, flam fives) you will be able to cleanly execute the roll portion of these rudiments. Remember that finger motion is going to be a very important part of making your rolls sound nice and fat and consistent. Believe it or not, finger movement is going to be one of the biggest parts of learning to play most of the things you play cleanly and consistently with the highest quality of sound that is possible. This is true for both traditional grip and match grip.
      And one quick thing I think you should note just for your playing future, if you are practicing using the traditional grip, use a balance of wrist motion and arm motion when you are playing. You don't want to use too much arm in unnecessary places when playing in traditional grip. However if you are playing with the matched grip, you should be incorporating a lot more arm motion with some wrist motion.
