Van Morrison is absolutely incredible. This song may be my favorite. When I was pregnant 18 years ago, I played this song everyday to soothe my nerves and after my son was born, this album was played everyday while he slept so peacefully. I will never get enough!

The Astral Weeks album was my first vinyl purchase in high school. I played and played it. It spoke to me like no other at that time of my life - the love of life the love of young girls at school, the love and camaraderie I felt for my friends back then. Glad to hear this unique rendition of Sweet Thing.

Astral weeks is one of the greatest Irish music records, perhaps one of the greatest records generally-speaking, and this song over all is the highlight to me. Such a transient record, lyrically it ebs and flows and is drifting constantly on an emotion course, the live studio element to the record aids this so much too, esspecially on Sweet Thing's orginal recording, whenever I listen to it something new sounds out to me, the violen running away frantically, the retreating bassline, it is beautiful.
When my time comes I'll be happy to drift away, hopefully on some beach looking across the Pacific ocean, listening to this and watching the sunset, no tears, no more sorrow, just bliss x

Always wondered how he recreated this album. I heard, from Lester Bangs, he had a host of Jazz musicians on the production of the actual song, he does a great job here, just guitar and voice. Wow, truly impressed, such a beautiful song.

John Platania played guitar for Van through that time but I couldn't say if that is who is on this with Van.
