Astral weeks is one of the greatest Irish music records, perhaps one of the greatest records generally-speaking, and this song over all is the highlight to me. Such a transient record, lyrically it ebs and flows and is drifting constantly on an emotion course, the live studio element to the record aids this so much too, esspecially on Sweet Thing's orginal recording, whenever I listen to it something new sounds out to me, the violen running away frantically, the retreating bassline, it is beautiful.

Moved into a flat tape of astral weeks in the drawer 40 years has passed it has aged well

The man would never sing a song that didn't have soul and meaning. Super guitar playing.and you still hear the words of the song perfectly.. The perfect balance. .

This is even better than the original studio version and I have to overcome my extreme reverence for Richard Davis's bass work on the latter in order to say this. What an incredible version.

When I was a little kid, i was into the wrong Morrison. As a teen, I discovered the true poet- this Morrison

I had a boyfriend introduce me to this album 22 yrs ago and instantly became my favorite album.. and to this day is still one of my favorites that is on repeat all of the time. Van Morrison is absolutely incredible. This song may be my favorite. When I was pregnant 18 years ago, I played this song everyday to soothe my nerves and after my son was born, this album was played everyday while he slept so peacefully. I will never get enough!

Who was the second guitarist here? Slowed down like this lets this melody wash over us like healing honey. So good…
