Unpopular opinion: I liked Pong Krell as a villain. Don’t get me wrong, he deserved what he got and worse, but I can’t think of a better antagonist for the Umbara arc. He was exactly what he was supposed to be.

Agreed, I love Pong Krell, his hatebility mixed with his badass fighting skill makes him a perfect mini-villian. The episodes were focused on the clones, not Krell, so making him more of a relateble and likeble villian wasnt much of a point, since he died so quikly. He was just pure badass evil, like many Star wars villains. I would have loved too have seen more of him, especially in duels with other jedi, just to see how that would work.

Reminder Grievous (Canon) won 16 victory and only lost 6 in his duel. Has beaten *Ahsoka* (even in their second duel she struggles and was hopeless against him.), *Pablo-Jill* duel over the world of Duro in a collapsing satellite city. Jill was ultimately left injured, *Obi-Wan Kenobi* (twice), *Adi Gallia* despite putting up a good fight with the general, she was ultimately defeated and captured by the cyborg, *Depa Billaba* (twice) who trained by Mace Windu and *Shaak Ti* during the captured of Chancellor Palpatine.
We see him slicing clones while he knock out Rex and Denial, never once get down on his knee by a clone or easily tricked by one, Grievous able choked that one clone with his claw who tried to sneak up on him in Bound For Rescue and has slaughtered bunch of Mauldalorian across the hallway including crushing their armor with his bare mechanical hand in Son of Dathomir.
In the book *Ultimate Star Wars* stated: "Grievous was highly skilled in lightsaber combat, in which he was trained by Count Dooku. With his cybernetic enhancements, Grievous relied on strength and agility when in combat with a Jedi. He was a master of many of the classic forms of Jedi arts, and was able to adapt quickly to an opponent's fighting style." He even the Separatists's best General, better than Krell.
if you think Grievous a total loser, well he isn't since he won 16 victory, only lost 6 in his duel and currently gain the most kills more than Dooku, Maul and Savage Opress.

Yoda was a legendary duelist only ever losing to plo koon and sidious. Sidious was terrified of Yoda dueling skills that's why he ran in the revenge of the sith and just shot lightning and threw stuff.

@@CommanderCoaster We were never given an exact timeline. However I believe it was probably around the time of the phantom menace that this training dual took place since unlikely they would have had the time during the clone wars to be dialing each other with all that was going on.
In the novelization of revenge of the sixth we actually learn that Yoda disarmed insidious of his lightsaber essentially winning the duel side of things tho ultimately losing the fight... this guys saying Yoda sucked and combat and not known for his lightsaber skills is borderline blasphemy.

Sidious ran away from the 800+ year old jedi who was to old to keep up with him. He tired Yoda out in the chase. On the Senate pod we can see before the force explosion yodas determined face and sidious turn to fear and pain. Yoda was closer to the edge which is why he couldn't on to the pod. I think Yoda was better but barely and not enough to kill sidious. Yodas a legendary duelist and force user.
I don’t think he lost the lightsaber duel. He lost the force duel with Sidious which was like winning a battle but losing the war.

The trick with Grieveous is that most people don't train to fight a buzz saw. He's a total out of context problem for most duelists first encountering him, but someone who is familiar with fighting him can pick him apart as Obi-Wan eventually did.
Yoda is considered one of the greatest swordsmen of his time, literally only matched by dooku sidious and windu?
Mucn of Yoda's combat skills were augmented with the force, which he could only do for limited periods of time. By the time of the Clone wars, he was already in his twilight years, but imagine how powerful he could have been a century or two earlier.

Non of the mentioned characters were fully able to beat him in lightsagbercombat. In fact, both dooku and Sidious and retreated from sword combat (dooku left completely and sidious switched to force techniques and keeping distance to yoda, trying to avoid another blade to blade fight.
Besides, yoda still had mastered All 7 forms for hundreds of years. The pure skill is not enhanced by the force, but speed and flexibility are. So I would still call Yoda one of the greatest duelists of all time.
Really hate to nit-pick because I really enjoy your content, but Yoda was one of the greatest lightsaber duelist the Jedi Order had throughout their history. Master of all 7 lightsaber forms & heavily implied in the Revenge of the Sith novelization to have won the lightsaber duel with Darth Sidious who is himself one of the greatest duelist of all time. :) Love the content :)

Ok a misconception with both your argument. There are techniques that one could use that the other opponent would not which would result in a victory. My opinion is that count dooku could beat sidious in a light saber duel.....and this is coming from someone who's second favorite star wars character is darth sidious. Like bruce Lee once said its better to master 1 kick a thousand times than a thousand kicks once. Palpatine and yoda were known for their force abilities the most and only falled back on dueling when the situation called for it

Second sidious originally had dooku try to kill ventress because sidious was afraid dooku would be able to beat him with ventresses help. Dooku was shocked was shocked when sidious said this because he'd never attempt to take over. Anakin beat dooku and obi wan was sent to face anakin because Yoda said he wasn't on the level to face sidious. So Anakin who beat dooku was considered the weaker of the two sith lords and this means dooku was definetely weaker as well.

Also if you remember the fight in season 6 dooku single handedly dismantled the jedi orders resident prodigy anakin and THE master of Soresu....which yoda and mace dubbed obi-wan. Count dooku's form 2 pressed Yoda in attack of the clones and he only ran because he needed to get the death star plans to sidious. Dooku was gonna use ventress as a sacrifice while he struck the final blow. Sidious was a master duelist but dooku was a dueling master. Hes lived longer and has more experience than sidious. One on One I genuinely believe sidious would loose a pure lightsaber duel but since palpatine would use force techniques which he and yoda were famed for then yes dooku loses
@@mylesstephens7791 In the revenge of sith sidious was said to have told dooku that he would save him if Anakin was beating him which is why dooku was surprised when sidious told Anakin to kill him. Dooku ran from Yoda because he realized he couldn't win he used obi wan and Anakin as a distraction to escape Yoda. Sidious had ancient sith knowledge and force speed that dooku would be unable to hold off against that long. When Quinlon vos was to pretending join the dark side he suggested him and dooku kill dooku master and dooku thought it was such a crazy impossible fight for them to win he laughed. Plus dooku tryed to turn obi wan saying together they could beat sidious.

If I had to guess on Krell’s tactic in a lightsaber duel, I’d say that his method is similar to Grevious, employing the spinning buzz saw flourishing velocities to bash through an opponent’s defenses and overpower them.

Did he say Yoda wasn’t good in battle? The little guy disarmed Sidious to the point where he had to keep his distance from Yoda using force lightning and throwing stuff. He was able to hold off force lightning to a significant extent and survive.

Krell's arc was so short lived, but he's easily one of my favorite characters from Clone Wars. It's crazy because he died in a room with only a few clones after mowing thru what looked like a battalion. I know it was a Clone development arc but I really hoped that Anakin would have come back to fight Krell and save his men. That would have been an awesome fight to see and that still would have developed the clones and Anakin's relationship with them.

You know, there were Jedi of other species that had more than four arms, although having 6 or more arms makes handling a lightsaber very awkward. Kreia was the most accomplished in that regard because she could wield 3 lightsabers without the use of her hands.
I'm glad Pong Krell is still getting attention. Even though he's a very hated character, and aside from all the clones he killed, I honestly would've wished they built upon Krell more. Feel like with most small characters in SW they just introduce them and then they die the next few days lol.

I think the Umbara Arc was dope, the “It’s treason then” from Krell made me freak out a bit. Honestly kind of disappointed that there wasn’t more done with him. I think some showdown between Savage Opress, Ventress, and Pong Krell could’ve happened

Krell was just a Dark Jedi that happen to have the element of surprise, and would’ve eventually be taken down. One must remember that the Clone Army was secretly train to kill Jedi, and they damn good at it. Krell would be no different from any high Jedi Masters that die in Order 66. No force user can survive when there a Legion worth of Blasters gunning you down.
Wouldn't say dam good at it, since the Jedi still had a positive KDR when it came to order 66.

Personally I think if Krell ever fought Yoda he'd be dead. All of his moves seem rehearsed and he didn't seem to be able to adapt quickly. He also was kinda dumb and hot headed. But yeah I see how people could mistake being able to use 4 blades to kill animals, and clones armed with blasters, as truly powerful. Those clones he fought were sleep deprived and exhausted, as well as low on morale. They still won. His weapons were cool but he was weak with the force. Also, Maul a weaker dualist? Really? I think we all know that's not the case.
I just want to see a high stakes battle between Krell and Fox (plus Fox's best and most trusted units).

Another thing that made krells lightsaber different was the fact that it wasn't even a lightsaber. Due to the large size and low pitched buzzing sound it made, it technically qualifies as a lightclub, and im pretty sure thats about as unique as you can get
Krell was powerful in combat the man took down so many clones with ease. The clones needed help with a local wildlife to take him down.
Definitely one of the top Jedi.

So it seems like you are pretty amazed by Krell. I think Krell is powerful, but definitely not close to the rank of most powerful guardian. His foresight was probably due to him being a darksider.
See Krell can fight pretty well against the clones, but I highly doubt that he would last long in a duel versus a skilled lightsaber combattant.
He is very powerful against multiple weaker foes due to his style and species. But imagine him fighting a Makashi foe, or someone like grievous. As seen in the clips where he fights the clones you immediately see that his footwork is rather sloppy and his movements slow, compared to a fighter like maul. Using two doublebladed sabers is very hard, so you can give him credit for doing well. Despite it being hard its probably the best style against blasterfire.
But he probably sucks as a duelist.
His lightsaber form is most likely ataru, or diem so. Compared to other ataru fighters in the clonewars he is slow and less dexterous. I reckon he wouldnt stand a minute against grievous, maul, or dooku.
There are some guardians which are more capable:
Obi Wan, Ki adi, Plo Koon, Anakin, Shaak Ti.

Another point to Krell's confidence and abilities, he turned off his lightsabers in the middle of combat while still surrounded by clones firing at him.
He just starting boxing them with his huge fists Lmfao remember that clone that got two punches to the gut ooh that was nasty
That was strategic. The region was covered in heavy fog, but his lightsabers made him easily seen. By turning off his sabers he was practically invisible and was able to sneak up on clones to beat them down.

False? Mace Windu was the best lightsaber duelist, he could go toe to toe with Yoda and came very close to winning. Yoda also wasn’t that good of a duelist, he struggled against fucking Dooku who while being known as a great duelist, lost to Anakin.

I agree krell was likely a weapons master. However every jedi council member would have beat him, and I'm certain quinlan vos, t'ra saa, sora bulq, ashoka tano, a'sharad hett, tsui choi, bultar swan, aayla secura, an'ya kuro, tholme, kirak infila were all a match for him if not better. Krell is not a council member and is likely around windus age , so 45 - 55 yet he's not on the council yet, and mace was on it when he was 28. Only the most exceptional jedi get on the council. The only jedi who were able to be on the council but weren't were quinlan vos and qui gon jinn, because vos had had an expansive dark past and jinn disobeyed the council often. This was not the case for krell so clearly he was just inadequate for the council.
He would have wrecked the clones in the jedi temple.
I would have preferred Anakin to return, find out what Krell had done to his 501st and executed him in battle. Imagine how awesome that duel Would be.... 🤔

This could tie in with his execution of Dooku, his hesitation being only momentary. Especially as he had already killed a Jedi gone bad. His hesitation being because he was strongly reproved by the council for his execution of Krell.
Also when Anakin became Vader, in the temple would his thoughts return to Krell with the realisation that he was right? (in Vader's view)

Since when is Yoda "not a good duelist"? He's actually regarded as one of the best if not THE best duelist of all time. Completely ignoring the fact that he trained Dooku who himself was regarded as one of the best in the order, he also went toe to toe and even gained the advantage against Sidious, who is also regarded as the best duelist in Sith history.
Not to mention that his apprentice Mace Windu single handedly bested Sidious by a wide margin
Gonna have to stop you there. He didn't train Dooku in Saber combat or even combat in general. He tried to stifle him. In fact, the only reason Yoda even took him as a padawan was because he thought his beliefs were dangerous.
While we knew that he had figured out order 66, he still dared to call himself a jedi even after openly stating he wanted to side with Dooku... yes, we all cry at order 66, but here we all loved mostly all clones like actually family and i'm pretty sure nearly all of us think he got off too easy...
Yoda was extremely powerful in lightsaber combat he was that good sidius was forced to abandon his lightsaber and try turn the fight into a battle of force where he would have the advantage.
Finnaly somebody gives Pong Krell some justice, he were so badass, easily one of my favorite clone wars villains. Hes personality was so hateble, which was the point, but hes fighting scenes were just so badass. I think they pulled him of greatly.

I’ve never heard this claim being made before. By chance do you have any info on this? A link by chance? I always assumed by how to he could take on Sidious, Dooku, Tear through the clones at the temple after the Genocide, etc, that he was expectedly better than most at combat.

Yoda trained two of the top five duellists of the era, Windu and Dooku, and defeated two of the top five in lightsaber combat, Dooku and Sidious. Geetsly was just straight up wrong when he said that

This approach to light sabre colors and jedi "classes" are not cannon anymore as they were in legends as well as the old republic mmo game. So this kind of all just isnt cannon anymore

You claim Yoda "kinda sucked a combat", yet he is the only one who dueled Dart Sidious without being clearly beaten as it was more of a draw. Sure, you could argue that Mace Windu beat Palpatine, but in this case Palpatine probably lost on purpose to turn Anakin. But even if Windu really did beat Palpatine, this would still mean that very old Yoda was nearly as good a duelist as Windu in his prime and we all know that Windu was one of the best duelists of his era. There is also the scene when Obi-Wan refuses to fight Anakin at first, but Yoda tells him that he is not powerful enough to fight Palpatine and Obi-Wan seems to know that Yoda is right. Also, when Anakin and Obi-Wan fight Dooku for the first time, they loose while Yoda clearly defeats him. Sure, Anakin wasn't at full power at the time, but Obi-Wan was. And don't forget that Yoda did ALL those things when he was VERY old (over 850 years).
What does that mean? Yoda was a better duelist than Obi-Wan or Dooku. This puts him in top tier. A 500 year old Yoda was probably a better duelist than Darth Sidious ever was. Anakin was probably the only contemporary with the potential to become a better duelist than Yoda in his prime. Due to his severes injuries after the duel at Mustafa, Anakin never managed to fully capitalise on said potential, though.
Yoda was the best duelist of his era and one of the best of all time. Him having even stronger non combat powers only shows how overpowered the little green guy really was.

@@ic4192 um, krell was never even considered to be on the Jedi council as far as we know and if he ever was it'd just be for his strategetical skills. Plus obi wan was like the fourth best jedi at the time of rots and he barely defeated grievous. Sora bulq was the most legendary jedi besides con d rallig not on the council during the clone wars had trained the most jedi in the order after Yoda and drallig. He was the Jedi mace decided to have help him in the creation of vaapad.

Obi wan Kenobi has stated in Canon in The Clone Wars movie that Master Yoda was the best light saber duelist in the order. Said it right in the beginning of the movie and it paid off in the end against his own former Padawan Count Dooku who was better than Anakin and Obi wan Kenobi. Plus he held his own against Darth Sidius. Proof is in the pudding, which is Canon incidentally.

Everytime I saw that episode of Krell slaughtering the clones, I was always a Little bit scared.
It seems we are viewing this from a “Legends” perspective. Therefore, Krell did not lose because he “fell to the dark side” or couldn’t use “light side” powers and wasn’t familiar enough with “dark side” powers; there is evidence - also from the canon, in fact, but moreso “Legends” - that anyone can command abilities from either “side,” regardless of how much they have dedicated their state of mind to one side or the other. You can be as devout as Yoda and still blast someone with lightning or choke them out, or you can be as hell-bent as Desann and throw down a Force Shield or drop a Heal on yourself. If we cite KOTOR as a source, we could say only that it’s simply more taxing for someone who leans one way to draw from the opposite side. JK2 and 3 allowed either without *ANY* penalties for your moral pursuasions.
No, Krell died because of his hubris... it is the unfortunate demise of so many intriguing villains to carry on in some asinine way rather than just finishing the fight when they can.

Krell wasn't even good enough to be on the jedi council. His fame wasn't for his fighting abilities but for strategic skills. There was at least TWENTY other jedi better then him.
Also, I believe he was insanely powerful and possibly even outranked some of the Jedi on Umbara. He outranked Anakin and Possibly Obi-Wan for the battle as when he wants to move to the capital to aid Obi-Wan he overrides Obi wans concerns. Master Tinn was the only other Jedi assigned to the ground battle and he’s a high ranking council member.

No, krell would not be the most powerful being ever, anikan was the one with the potential to be the most powerful being in existence only weaker than perhaps the whills(in Other words the force itself)in legends which was canon by George Lucas, Luke showcases half of what anikan could have become and Luke is an absolute beast in legends, he could control black holes, defeat manifestations of the force itself, and even take the ability to use the force from his opponent. Your theory is very invalid and literally made no sense, your saying that landing a melee attack when a ranged attack misses is being skillful. It’s impossible to miss when you jump on your enemy, Aksoka could’ve killed those bats of she was there, so could literally any Jedi with decent power. Also in a recently made canon comic, dooku meets Yoda and when Yoda dares Dooku to turn Yoda to the darkside, Dooku realized that he could’ve turned Yoda evil but when he realized what that would mean to the galaxy and how powerful a darth Yoda would be, he was so scared he left immediately. So to say Yoda was not a good fighter is so stupid I am glad your not that popular or we would have way too many idiots running around.
The jedi council, sidious, dooku, sora bulq, grievous, Quinlon vos, ventress, savage, cin drallig, ashoka, barriss offee all were better than krell at the height of there power with krell only having a chance against savage, barriss potentially.
