    It's not often that we get to see a CoCo port. Being that this one is a CoCo 3 exclusive explains the decent quality of it.

    We had the Sega Master System version. I didn't even play an arcade-perfect version of Rampage until I got Midway Arcade Treasures for Playstation 2 and I feel the Sega Master System is actually an improvement because it has fewer cities and an ending. "Fewer cities" might not seem like it would be an improvement but Rampage is really only fun in short bursts due to extremely repetitive gameplay and I was getting very bored just trying to see each city in the arcade game before it loops back to the first one.

      One of the few times the Atari ST is way better than the Amiga. Atari ST has bigger sprites, music as well as sound fx, and also allows you to choose AI to fill in missing players. I had the Amiga version but I always preferred playing it at my friend's house (one of the very few times)

    Lynx port was 4 player (adding Larry the Rat who still managed to make it into the movie) but it meant requiring 4 Lynxs and each a copy of the game. Not many people owned 1 Lynx and not many of them had even 1 other friend with a Lynx, never mind 4 Lynx owers all together.

      The C64 game IO has an almost identical title music as the Atari ST music here. I suspect in this case IO has stolen the music (release date 1988, while this is marked as 1987)

      @neat3468 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Random_Person. Yeah but 3 player is better gameplay, like literally 50% more fun and when me and when 3 of my mates all play together (we only played this game on 3 player or not at all) taking it in turns between levels on the master system version sucked. Not to mention playing on a 1 button joystick felt better than the Master System dpad which tended to hurt my thumb after a while.

    • @neat3468
      @neat3468 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Random_Person. Always wanted to play the lynx version and try the rat. The zoomed in view though where it's impossible to see dynamite being thrown at you until it's too late. After watching it on youtube I think the lynx version might be worse than the Amiga version (the one I had but I didn't like so much despite being 3 player) the view is just too zoomed in, like you probably don't even see your friends half the time, I would prefer to play the Master System version over the Amiga and maybe even the Arcade. Arcade looks nice, but no music and no ending? That is one great thing about Lynx version I guess, at least it has an ending. I don't think there is one single perfect version of Rampage, sadly.

    • @homiedclown
      @homiedclown ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@barryschalkwijk9388 Technically true, but it's a bit more convoluted than that, unfortunately. Sega released the Sega Mark III in Japan, and went on to release the FM sound unit for it. Sega then redesigned and rebranded the Mark III for overseas markets, and released it as the Master System outside of Japan, but the FM chip was not included in that system, nor was there an FM expansion module released outside of Japan. Sega then decided to release the redesigned Master System in Japan, and they decided to include the FM hardware in the console itself. So, the Japanese Mark III has the expansion, the Japanese Master System has the FM built in, but outside of Japan the FM was non-existent. The MegaDrive nor the PowerBase Converter had the hardware built in, so if you had a Master System in Japan, you got crappier sound by using the Mega Drive backwards compatibility. People can mod their non-Japanese Master Systems and add the FM chip though.

    La version Amiga est vraiment pas top. Ils auraient au moins pu faire un portage de la version St 😤

      J'ai été surpris que cette fois ce ne soit pas un portage, même si je crois me souvenir que c'était plus fun à jouer que le premier malgré tout.

    Wow, the Lynx version is really good!

      Apparentely it's 4 player coop via Cable link, never ever witnessed it though.

      The Lynx is an under rated little system. It was co-developed for Atari by R. J. Mical and Dave Needle, two former Amiga developers. So it had some real chops.

    I don't know what version of Atari 8-bit Rampage that was, but I remember it looking a tad better than that. And if they had coded it right (I never got to test it), it would have been the only 3 player home version if it ran on the original Atari 800.

      I believe the Amiga version is three player with two being able to use the joysticks and another the keyboard.

      @@x-crisis I dunno about other versions but I can confirm the Amstrad CPC version can be played in 3 player also. Because I played it in 3 player a lot. :P
