It's also the best port of Tapper, since it's the only one to play like the arcade game.
Atari 5200 and Apple ][ was slow (though the latter is more forgivable), Coleco is choppy, C64 controls sluggish (likely due to the slowdown. Notice the music speeding up and slowing down at parts), and the Amstrad port made the STUPID decision to make you hit the button three times to throw a glass at a customer.
MS-DOS and ZX Spectrum ports do play closer, but they have serious issues of their own.

    I rate:
Arcade: 10/10; A beer company made their own game? Very cool! It inspired others!
IBM PC Booter: 10/10; It's a bit flaky, but pretty sweet for the PC-DOS!
IBM PC Booter CGA Composite: 10/10; It's identical to the PC-DOS, but without flaky colors.
C64: 10/10; The cups are poorly sized, but they have a very good 3D aspect. I'd say Hamburglar looks a bit funny!
Atari 8-bit family: 8/10; The music is on a very short loop, and there's no winning sound effect.
Atari 2600: 10/10; As expected! Hamburglar looks pretty nice! Although, it's kind of hard to get the right cup...
Apple 2: 9/10: It's kind of slow, and the music needs a bit of work... Well, I gotta give them some credit. It was only the 2nd computer they ever made!
ColecoVision: 10/10; The money scene is more age-appropriate, I'd say.
Amstrad CPC: 11/10; They introduced an amazing title screen! Otherwise, it's identical to the C64.
ZX Spectrum: 4/10; *My ears are bleeding.*
BBC Micro: 10/10; It's like the Amstrad, but with sound effects and only saturated primary colors.
PlayStation: 10/10: It's exactly like the arcade version!

The Atari 2600 port really surprised me, really well made considering the very limited specs.
The Atari 8-bit version is ridiculous in comparison, a shame since this machine is definitely capable of much better, graphically and musically speaking.
The Commodore 64 port could have been better too, in my opinion.

Dew and Pepsi (for Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum). The worst version is PC-DOS and ZX Spectrum due to bad sound effect which is earrape and 2D graphics is redundancy.

The ZX Spectrum version doesn't exactly have the most pleasant sounding music, but it was necessary. The Spectrum can't execute code while playing sound out of its speaker, for some reason. So what it's doing here is rapidly alternating between producing a sound and running code, trying to produce as smooth of a gameplay experience as possible. Games like Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner used a similar technique, albeit at a slower rate.

The C64 version looks kinda alright, but I feel that it could have been more. The sprites are a bit chunky, the backgrounds are bland, the music is a bit thin. All a symptom of being made early on in the machine's life, I think. Once the programmers of the C64 scene had learned a few tricks, I reckon they could have pulled out a much better version. The ZX Spectrum one is horrible. The music is appalling. I'm more than prepared to allow for the fact that it's a weak machine, but I cannot believe that this was the best they could have done. The one which most impressed me was the BBC Micro. Very nice, considering the limitations of the system. And the Atari 2600 version is a strong effort, also.

I’m just here to say the PS1 version is broken, it plays way faster than the arcade version. You can tell by the music , sometimes it sounds like it’s playing ahead of itself , and if you don’t believe me, pay close attention to the can switching mini-game and then compare it to the arcade. It’s almost impossible to keep up with the can switching.

I wonder why every version after the original Budweiser arcade version has a different jingle at the end of each level. Maybe the one in the Bud original is an incomplete or off-key version of the one used in the Root Beer and Suntory arcade versions? Anyway, it seems a shame that the arcade versions are the only ones with the extra end-of-level animations where the bartender helps himself to a drink after a job well done, but then again, that could have been one of the measures taken to avoid obvious references to alcohol when porting the game to home systems (hence the Pepsi and Mountain Dew logos in some versions).
Part of me finds it somewhat jarring how the C64, Amstrad and BBC Micro versions have more-or-less the same sprites, yet only the Amstrad version corrected the linedancers' eyes (They look like they have exotropia when they lift their legs in the other two versions).
I was surprised to see Sega's logo in some versions and wondered what they had to do with Tapper. I looked it up and found out that Sega distributed the game in Japan.
Good lord, the sound in the ZX Spectrum version... I can just barely make out Oh! Susanna and the Can-Can under all that noise...
Punny fact: Tapper was developed by a company called Marvin *Glass* and Associates.
(Also, I've got used to those new sound effects that are used in these videos now. They don't seem so intrusive or distracting anymore)

The Atari 8-bit version plays better than it presents, but they obviously could've done much better with the hardware. It's C+ work at best.
The 2600 version a masterpiece given the hardware. I have no idea how they got that much game crammed into its 128 bytes of RAM but there it is fully intact!

    Well that was pretty good.
I remember one time when I went a farm with my family, and I had a can of root beer, and it kinda tasted like a candy cane ina water glass or something.
I notice something... It's not what ports you're missing. (Although the Palm OS version was gonna be in it.)
    1. Atari 800, I think the music keeps repeating the beggining of the music which is like F G A C C D C D F G A A G F G and then the cycle repeats, and there's no music on the bonus scene which I've seen before.
    2. Commodore 64, I think the music of the tapper game seems a tempo off. I noticed when the customers are drinking, the music speeds up.
    3. PS1, I know what sound issues you're talking about... The Music.
I think not only has the PS1 version have sound issues but also the atari 800 and the C64 have it too. Not gonna lie. Also how did you even do composite mode by the first place?

      1. Apparently in the European version of the game, which is the one I played, there is no music in the bonus level. It also has a different main screen. I've seen many other videos and the beginning part of the music is repeating, so it must be a game feature, I believe.
      2. I have seen several other videos of the Commodore 64 version and the same music acceleration issue happens in all of them.
PD. I'm going to contact you regarding the CGA composite configuration.

today in 2022 the music of Tapper in mame is still bad and choppy yet today we can''t play tapper with correct sound and music because the midway ssio sound board is not correctly emulated, the music in the original cabinet arcade sounds like the BBC micro port which is the one who have the best music in the video

The ColecoVision, Amstrad CPC and the Original Arcade version are my favorites, PC DOS has no idea what they did to the music (or should I say instruments?), which is leaving ZX Spectrum as my least favorite 😔 it’s because of the music, graphics, color and sound effects.
