- In this week's episode, we are coming at you from sunny Florida while on vacation to demonstrate how we use the ColorChecker Passport to achieve more accurate white balance.
The ColorChecker Passport is a pocket-sized tool that contains 4 different targets. These targets include (taken from ColorChecker's Website):
1. Gray Balance Target to set exposure with in-camera meter or handheld meter.
2. White Balance Target to create custom in-camera white balance for a consistent white point across a set of images with no need to correct each individual image later.
3. Classic Target, the industry standard 24-patch color reference target for creating custom camera profiles and for visual color assessments.
4. Creative Enhancement Target to neutralize and create your look with enhancement patches, check and evaluate shadow details and highlight clipping, and control color shifts.
The truth is, I have never quite used the ColorChecker Passport to it's full potential or capacity but it has been very helpful in situations where I have needed a reference point to sample with the eyedropper tool in order to adjust my white balance in post.
Are you doing something different to nail white balance? If so, let us know down in the comments!
Hope this episode has been helpful! And remember, if you are struggling with anything in particular, feel free to let me know and I will certainly consider dedicating an episode to that topic.

don't touch the swatches
You're 100% correct. The oils from our fingers can mess them up.
