I do have this lens and the Sigma 16mm and I love how versatile the 18-105mm is. Perfect for traveling. Sigma is still better in low light situations and sharpness. Thanks for your content!

It's hard to believe that I still didn't find any lens with constant or fixed aperture that provides that much of a focal length range. This lens may be more than six years old now, but boy this is my all time favourite lens. Once I've seen any brand come up with similar product like this Sony lens, I definitely wouldn't bother selling it.

That was my first lens I bought for a6000. Than I had to buy Sony 35mm 1.8 oss and Sony 50mm 1.8oss for low light. Now I have everything what I need to make very good video, and I have to say, when I shoot wedding, 18-105 saves me at many situations when I cant get closer with that primes. So just simply take second a6000 with 18-105 ready on. And I know I can keep calm with that lens :)))

I just stumbled upon SONY FE 24-105mm f/4 G which is twice as expensive but looks solid as well. Should probably do much more research, but would love to hear your opinions!

Ironically, just bought a 6400 for an upcoming trip to Iceland! What would you recommend between the Sony 16-55 2f/.8 and this lens considering it's less than half the cost for more range, OSS, but losing 1 stop of light. Thoughts on bokeh with this lens? Love the channel, keep up the great content! :)
The 18-105 is a fav for me. With bokeh it's meh between 18- like 55 ish, but from 55-105 the bokeh is good. I've never used the 16-55mm, so can't really comment on that one. Been thinking about picking it up tho, would be sweet to have that 2.8 at 55mm for portraits. I'd say go with the 18-105, taking landscapes while zoomed all the way in is just money! But again, never had the opportunity to test the 16-55 yet. :)

Yes I do have the Sigma 16 as well as the 30 mm and they are booth epic! Hi. I have a little loose sound that you can hear if you tilt the lens up and down, its like something is loose inside that makes a little sound... It is only like this when the camera is turned off. When its on there is no sound at all.. Could it be the OSS mecanism that is like this or is the lens might broken? It does work excellent in both movie and photos. Do you have the same thing on your lens?
I acctually have, but I dropped it so hard once. On the pavement, thought it was smashed. But it was totally okay exept for that loose noise started then. But it's deffinitly they OSS or the autofocus because as soon as it's powered on it's off.
Is it better to buy a Sony 18-105 lens or a Tamron 28-200 for the alpha6000? I know that the tamron has a bigger "shot" but I wonder which one takes better photos at the focal lengths I use most often, around 16-28 and 50-100. I also have a kit for the sony 16-50 and 55-210. Quite a charming review! How do you find the fly by wire zoom mechanism? This is the only thing that puts me off this lens. But all the Sony zoom lenses have this
If you need to update the firmware on this lens, note that it CANNOT be achieved if you have some of the more modern Sony cameras. Sony has not updated the software for quite some time, so for example FX3, FX6, FX9, FX30 etc owners will be stuck with whatever level of lens firmware they currently have.
Thank you! hmmm I own the Sigma 16mm it's so good, but it's not stabilized witch matters for me. Never tried the sigma 35mm but I own the sony 35mm and it's so good. It's a tough call imo. On one hand owning a 35mm prime is great for video work, but then again the 18-105 can go to 35mm and not 16mm. The 16mm is suuuuper sharp and very fun to use. What are you mainly filming?
@@thaticelandicguy I'm leaning towards getting the A6600 + 18-105mm. Then a prime. Choosing between the two. That was also what I thought of, the 18-105mm covers the 35mm but I heard about the 35mm for very cinematic look. More of a travel video vlog with cinematics.
The 35mm is super cinematic indeed, so maybe that one :) I got the 10-18mm sony as my 2nd lens a few years back, very happy with that one, and I got that super wide angle :)

Would love to do a comparison but I don't own the 18-135mm. The 18-135 doesnt have fixed appurture but the 18-105 has. Then I would guess there are some other things also that sepperate them
hello, i have a6000 with kit lenses 16-50 and 55-210 , i find it difficult to use because of zoom range, the 16-50 is wide and 55-210 is tele so im thinking of 18-105 but with no additional budget by selling off 16-50 and 55-210, so will it be a good decision ? thanks

Don't have that really. But it's not the sharpest lens. I've noticed that above F/11 it also starts to loose quality.

The simga 16mm is a beast, and for that price? So good. Regarding the 70-350 then I'm afraid that I have not tested it yet.

If you need to update the firmware on this lens, note that it CANNOT be achieved if you have some of the more modern Sony cameras. Sony has not updated the software for quite some time, so for example FX3, FX6, FX9, FX30 etc owners will be stuck with whatever level of lens firmware they currently have.

Thank you! hmmm I own the Sigma 16mm it's so good, but it's not stabilized witch matters for me. Never tried the sigma 35mm but I own the sony 35mm and it's so good.
It's a tough call imo. On one hand owning a 35mm prime is great for video work, but then again the 18-105 can go to 35mm and not 16mm.
The 16mm is suuuuper sharp and very fun to use.
What are you mainly filming?
@@thaticelandicguy I'm leaning towards getting the A6600 + 18-105mm. Then a prime. Choosing between the two. That was also what I thought of, the 18-105mm covers the 35mm but I heard about the 35mm for very cinematic look.
More of a travel video vlog with cinematics.
The 35mm is super cinematic indeed, so maybe that one :)
I got the 10-18mm sony as my 2nd lens a few years back, very happy with that one, and I got that super wide angle :)

Would love to do a comparison but I don't own the 18-135mm. The 18-135 doesnt have fixed appurture but the 18-105 has. Then I would guess there are some other things also that sepperate them
hello, i have a6000 with kit lenses 16-50 and 55-210 , i find it difficult to use because of zoom range, the 16-50 is wide and 55-210 is tele so im thinking of 18-105 but with no additional budget by selling off 16-50 and 55-210, so will it be a good decision ? thanks
