I’m having an issue with black fuel type liquid leaking out of the exhaust manifold / v band clamp after turbo at down pipe. Truck doesn’t misfire and sounds healthy haven’t taken it down the road since. Was a junkyard motor we put in our truck that had a bad small cam motor in it so swapped a big cam 3 400. Could this be a leaking / failed injector due to sitting? I’m debating whether it’s valve seal or injector. Smokes pretty good at idle it will clear up after it warms up.

Loved your video. I Have a question if you could help. I have alot of fuel coming from my exshust manifold on my 85 Peterbilt 400 big cam. It smokes more white smoke then blue, and sometimes black in color under heavy load but clears up. Engine still runs strong. Fuel leakage appears to tame down once it's eng. Is working and warm up to 170. But starts again setting and idling. When I take off after idling, it smokes like a Freight train for a few miles before it clears up. Injectors? Haven't tried ATF in fuel filter. Any ideal?

    • @lifeintrucking.eduardomorales
      @lifeintrucking.eduardomorales  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Mix a few cans of seafoam in fuel. When that fuel is done, then add 2 bottles of atf in each tank of fuel. You might see a different color of smoke due to the atf. Hopefully that will get your injectors working right. If it doesn't, you might need to adjust your injectors, or time for some new ones. It sounds like one or more injectors might be staying open(leaking). You need to be careful with that. It can cause damage to engine.

Do your oil changes when needed. Watch your antifreeze. If to old, might be time to change it. One of the things many don't check would be your water belt tensioner pulley. Check if there is a grease fitting. If not, there should be a plug. Take it off and replace with a fitting. Keep it greased. Pay attention on symptoms for bad injectors or camshaft. If your truck is running strong, then you should not have that problem. You have a good engine, just always pay attention when it speeks to you!

@@rcuev118 .011 and .023 are used when using inner base circle to set the injectors, .014 and .027 are used when using outer base circle to set injectors. Inner base uses a dial indicator or preset torque (6 inch pds) to set the injectors and outer base uses a torque wrench. You have to check what kind of injectors you have. I do use them, but not all the time. Almost all mechanics I know don't. My dad was a gas mechanic for many years, and he never used them and is totally doing good with no issues. Not sure where that came up since it's actually the first time I hear about it, but I will totally look into it.

I Have heavy smoke coming from my exhaust you can tell it’s fuel . Fuel is coming out of the exhaust manifold not just pouring out but it is do you think it’s just the injectors . My engine is a 400 big cam 2

It sounds like injectors. Have you done an overhead? Are you idling for long periods?

Eduardo Morales I haven’t done a over head I put a new thermostat in it today just to make sure it want stuck open and running cold . I have never done a over head on any truck but I would consider it if I could get all the info so I don’t mess it up .

mate, why didn't you pressure clean the engine before you started your repairs, you stay cleaner your (wife won't get so cranky when she washers your dirty cloths) and you will stop crap getting in the engine when you open it up. ( cummins mechanic australia.)

Next time around save yourself the hassle of syphoning.
By re-priming your PT pump and filling the fuel filter with a mix of 80% automatic transmission fluid
    To 20% diesel...
And pour a gallon of sea foam into your tanks.... syphoning and washing the cylinders is still the best method
But usually the detergents and natural lubricants in atf and diesel will loosen up the carbon in the cylinders and when the engine is at operating speed
1500 rpm or so. It’ll just blow that shit out the stack for a little while. And then it’ll run clean
The sea foam is just a post rinsing kinda and stabilizer for the fuel.

I Did that twice before changing injectors. And still it came out very dirty.

Eduardo Morales damn. It was that bad....
I’ve got a truck at work that smokes getting worse..... I know it needs injectors but no one is gunna wanna buy a full set of injectors for a truck we don’t “need”
so I just keep adding ATF and stabilizer trying to clean it up a little....
      also have an
NHC-250 small cam I’m about to replace the PT pump and other things on.... it’ll either run decent. Or overspeed again and break something like a connecting rod or any one of a few hundred pieces in a truck I just bought .......

Question i have a bc3 i just bought this truck in July I’ve been a driver for 5years but trying to learn to work on my own truck and finding a knowledgeable mechanic in Chicago when it comes to big cams is like finding a needle in a hay stack. So i think i have a stuck or bad injector want to try priming it. So do i buy a new fuel filter fill it with atf and diesel and leave it in until next change of filter and let the atf work it’s way out of do i change filter once again the next day on Facebook group saw something abt only letting the atf in at idle. Trying to fix issues with truck that has leaked me dry but want to avoid further more costly damage.

@@rcuev118 add atf with fuel and turn it on. Hopefully that'll do the trick. If not, you'll have to run the rack and check injectors.

Big cams will smoke. That's the nature of this engine. I wouldn't worry about it if she's running good.
