      I can say the same about my country, but here it is even more special, because there’s a taxation gap at 250 horsepower: you pay around 250$ a year of taxes for a 249 hp car, whereas for 251 hp you need to pay around 1000$
      So here are plenty of 3.0 249 hp diesels, which is a massive bargain: they are really quick, especially if on stage 1-2, they are almost sniffing the fuel, and they are tax-friendly

    OMG!
    I always wanted to comment on your videos or posts to do a video for us "diesel power" guys. Honestly, all my life me and my family have owned diesel cars. First it was Citroen Xantia 1.9 Turbo D (CAR WITH BEST MOST COMFORTABLE RIDE EVER TO EXIST) and now I own Merc. B200 CDI (w245) which is also a great car.
    I live in Macedonia south-east Europe and here we have a lot of second hand imports from EU and 90% of those cars are diesels (engines last much longer especially those which are chain driven)
    Great videos Stype I love your channel!

    • @TopCarsTV
      @TopCarsTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man.
      Is the amount of old imported diesels also the reason why Skopje is one of the most polluted cities in the world?

    • @Gasmaska69
      @Gasmaska69 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TopCarsTV Maybe by a small percent. Poor (by this I mean NO) politics and legislative only on paper regarding big pollutants, factories here as in other Balcan countries using legally imported garbage as fuel (where do you think that all the textile that isn't sold in EU goes? Shredded and mixed with other stuff goes into furnaces)
      Also, regarding diesel cars, many owners are tricked into removing DPF filters and cats because they believe that the engine will "breathe" better, or they just remove them to sell them to catalyst buyers who melt them or whatever to extract the platinum.
      Low standard as well as not being interested for general health leads many families to still use raw coal as heating fuel in winter months.
      But allowance of importing cars with no emission standard in late 2000 coincides with the pollution in the city. I remember 10-15 years there would be smog but only for a few days in December. Climate changed also, we get more and more "dry" days during winter, high air pressure lasting for days even weeks.

    Quick comment, I’ve also had an A2 diesel, the 90 hp version. The body panels are polymer for the most part…after a front shunt they stuck the thermoplastic bits in an oven (autoclave) and it was no different to when I bought it.
    Furthermore, VAG sold more A2’s than SAAB sold 900’s of the same generation. It was a development project for space frame vehicles but “more or less” broke even on its total cost

Accelaration quick enough to give "Beemer Boys" a shock, combined with exceptional "GermanType Build Quality" in a comfortable 4 seater, two door. More of a "Gran Tourer" than a straight "sports car" admittedly, but I had no complaints and would very happily have another, given the chance..

    In the US, we never saw the halcyon days of diesels. If you ever read CAR magazine from England, the buyer's guide showed, at its height, that virtually every car line had a diesel...all of them. BMW500 series mid-sized diesel was about the best for reliability and quality. Still and all, the Mercedes-Benz diesel would last almost forever with the proper maintenance and care.

  • @reynardkitsune1
    @reynardkitsune1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Without the Diesels in the MK I Golf, the engine may have been found only in taxicabs until today...especially the Turbodiesel, though being significantly more expensive than the comparative petrol version put the self igniter on the map for a broader public.
    Besides, the engine derived from the EA827 was the first being a "high rev diesel" and being compact and lightweight enough to be installed in compact cars. Though still featuring many "traits" of the Diesel like noise and harshness it proved to be a reliable engine after the first teething problems were ironed out.

    I always loved the A2, it’s so weird and different. It’s not a simple “ economy car” in a way that it was well engineered instead of poorly made. It might be awkward for most people but I find it weirdly fascinating. A lot more in my opinion than overrated cars like “ the suuuppra bro”.

      @@TopCarsTV I can wait to see what you have planned on this car then. I’m sure Doug DeMuro would love this car for all of its “quirks and features”. I think the A2 would have been a success if the interior were a little bit more luxurious. Regular people don’t care that much about engineering stuff and people that can afford Audis can also afford to have lower mpg. It was maybe too ahead of its time probably like the Renault Avantime was.

    With a stage 2 tune it gives 243hp 555nm and goes 0-60 in about 6 seconds. Not much for a bimmer, but it still is a perfect daily car since a full tank of diesel (60Liters) lasts for more than 700km (around 8L/100km) in a “city mode”

    Cummins once built a indy car that would of won the Indy 500 but unfortunately the turbo got clogged and it had to retire, and was never able to try again because diesel got outlawed, The car set the fastest top speed of 1952 of 139.1 MPH in qualifying. Also the engine was a modified truck engine that was in production in 1952.

      For the bimmers, i would have put the first 335d, sometimes nicknamed the M3d in the remapping community (the E46 330Cd was also a beast when remapped, but the E91/92/93 was 340-350hp with a simple remap, it was insane at the time)

    I would argue the 435d is even more impressive than the 640d, only issue being the AWD instead of RWD. However 4.5s to 60 and hot-hatch destroying acceleration in a car that'll get 52mpg is incredible.
    Edit: I have never, ever gotten 52mpg from my 435, not even close, my right foot is made of lead as soon as I jump into it. Every car has Mopar fuel economy if you drive it properly.
