- We did it! Level 100 on a a Hardcore Retaliation Warlord in Grim Dawn. In this video I talk a bit about the journey, what got me there alive and some info on the build.

They badly need to rework some of their mechanics.
Adding a percentage of your total retaliation damage to some skills was really all it took to make retaliation fun. But most of your damage still comes from actually being hit by melee attacks, something which just doesn't happen in PoE. They'd have to change the pacing completely for reflect/retaliation to be good.
Retaliation is gonna get a look at next patch, the lead programmer said so. they are re-balancing everything retaliation wise.
Keep retaliation. We need an offline mode.

Congratulations Ziggy! I've started GD yesterday and I'm having a blast, also playing a warlord but I'm doing Spin2Win, and it feels great. Really looking forward to getting my own character to 100, though not hardcore yet because I suck :)
playing HC or not, got nothing to do with sucking, it's 2 completely different games, and you play so differently, imho, HC in GD is not that great, even with a million of defense layers, you can get hit with a debuff, and a curse and get 1 shot. it's just how the game is. so enjoy what you want to do mate, and don't think you "suck" just because you don't play HC

@@rekaens you have to be extra careful for sure, but I think HC in GD is implemented much better than in Diablo or PoE. I've been playing HC for years now, it's very a rewarding and thrilling experience. And you don't need to trade/buy your way to the top. You don't get sucked up into microtransactions either. It feels very balanced. The shotgunning mechanics of some bosses or combos are what makes you really think and pay attention. Otherwise, it would be boring as hell. Just my 3 cents.

Next patch both Overguard, and Retaliation are getting nerfed, confirmed by dev. :)

Awesome job! Retaliation builds are mind-numbingly slow before Shattered Realms and the now "+%retaliation damage bonus to attack". I abandoned one. You'd have to rely on anything hitting melee only!
Thank you for inspiring me with your video... I followed your skills guide and reached 100 yesterday, mainly due to having a complete Empowered Perdition set which helped a great deal! It seem GD drop rate of items for character you are playing is abysmally low (can't get mythical versions of Perdition) it's like the game is encouraging you to play other classes with what drops.
I guess it is pretty off topic but does anybody know a good website to watch newly released series online ?

nice thing about this game is that even in HC you can still paused and saved your character from dying. didn't work with D3.. i pause and exit come back character dead
I completely agree that defensiveness in PoE is clunky as hell and very difficulty to react and interact when danger is imminent. CWDT and immortal call can only proc for such a short duration that we would need to focus on generating endurance charges continuously to make it work ... plus dealing with the cool down recovery makes this a bit thick. I wont event address using pure evasion and getting oneshot or ES getting completely trashed against phys blows , sigh :-s
Congratz ziggy! I'm going to have to give GD another shot... IDK it seemed so slow, well coming from POE that's no surprise. I currently have the base game, should I get the DLC right away or just stick to the base for now?
Dlc does help and add extra stuff and layers but like in every game you can go without dlc to certin point ofc
I know the feeling mate, i play mainly fast zoom zoom builds on poe, so GD seemed slow af at first when i came back to it, but you'll start enjoying that slowness and you'll feel that it's the right pace for this game. ( the last DLC is realy nice, i'd suggest you get em since you get alot of new QOL things like the merits which let's you create a character on ultimate diffuculty with fulll quest rewards + backpacks once you already have one character past ultimate, and that's for exemple one thing poe is missing, the fact that you can skip lvling every single character to try out a new build )

If you're unsure of whether you want to pay for the expos yet I'd suggest going until killing Loghorrean in Normal difficulty and then decide. If you like it you can grab the expos then and proceed into the new acts. You'd be missing some items and mastery choices but that's not too bad plenty to do in the base game!
Grim Dawn does NOT Forgive any low Resist its best to keep any Resist over Cap because Debuffs will not make any Effect
And yes of course 100% Armor Absorb is also essential
Well Mogdrogen on Hardcore dont go below Lightning 120 % Over Cap and take some High Dps with you
one more thing on Moggy if someone Dies he normally becomes Immortal and wil NOT DIE
if you have Overguard and Hourglass you can keep it up Full Time so youre actually a Pro reaching 100 on Hardcore is Really good
Nice video ^^ Just one point tho, as far as i know there is no 0 damage because you have high armor ^^ 60% of the damage always go through. And if you have 100% absorption you just mitigate that 40%.
You need the full Stoneward set (you have the belt if I am not mistaken) for beastly +retaliation proc and defensive proc that gives you +100% armor buff. Also the thorns legendary pants that give you another +retaliation damage proc. The Callagadra helmet is quite good with the 16% chance for +900% retaliation damage but is hard to get - any other helm with retaliation damage works. I am currently running retaliation Warlord with 3500 base Defensive ability and base 5000 armor that hits like a truck with righteous fervor (max hit over 150k). Your gear can definetely have other improvements but the build is solid.
Edit: as of this moment the most single instance of damage has been a bit over 420k. Retaliation build still OP despite some recent nerfs to retaliation relYed equipment.

Yes he's level 118 but he doesn't stand a chance against 40k burn dmg/sec thermite mine and 100k fire strike dps.
Now that I watch this video ...uhmmm I have a plan ;Aegis of Menhir + retaliation+ electrocution dots.

Well you can piss off Mogdrogen if you have 3 DPS Friends and have 120 % Lightning over Cap but if anyone Dies you have to leave because normally he becomes Immortal

I think it's more fun to play Tactician .. almost same concept, but more engaging
Need Oathkeeper for added retaliation to attack skills like righteous fervor and aegis of menhir. Also oathkeeper has strong auto-attack proc with retaliation dmg added to attack. If you don't have Oathkeeper you will suffer against ranged and spellcasters since you will barely do damage to them.
16 minute video about a buold and you didnt show your skill tree even once.
They should remove the arcane modifier. I think it is too annoying, especially for people like me who watch Netflix while playing...

Retaliation is so op and boring right now.
I'm messing around with one right now and I feel like I'm playing an MMO, you just stare at your cooldowns and spam them without actually looking at what's going on.
Dude, stop playing singleplayer and make a game online, I'm dying to find ppl to play with in HC!!
With the HUGE lag spike when some one joins a game, no wonder no one plays HC online.

poe is pretty bad right now, 50% of builds are unplayable (most melee) and league is dogshit for the "regular" player.

No I’m sorry but people don’t want to sit there for ages defeating mobs. PoE have done it right where almost all builds can just clear fast including bosses
So you managed to reach max level in Grim Dawn using a cheat like 'turboHUD'. Impressive! I wish I were that good. I guess I'm stuck with just knowing the difference between a modification and actual cheats.

looked at the game on steam, not sure when ill consider buying it.
Grim Internals is a ui and quality of life mod. Its super nice and makes the game a loy more enjoyable to play. If you consider it cheating thats your decision to make for yourself, its not like it matters what people do in offline singleplayer.
@@ZiggyDGaming A modification is not a standalone executable that controls some parts of the game for you, like picking up loot. This is botting by definition. Botting is cheating.
Well considering that Grim Internals have a post an official forums (and it's even a sticky post), it's safe to say devs don't consider it as a cheat but as an utility for the game
