Recently bought a Switch to go alongside my PS4 Pro, and it's had a LOT of use so far. BotW, Mario Kart 8, Mario Odyssey, and now I'll have to add this one to my collection. Fantastic console, with a great library of games. Thanks for the review guys. This was the one I was waiting for, and it certainly made up my mind.
If you have any appreciation for the OG Mario games, you have to check out Super Mario Maker 2. It's incredible.

Wow Fire Emblem has evolved so much since my first character death as a child on GBA. I'm happy it's gotten so huge and hope this success spawns many successful future Fire Emblem games.
This is legit my favorite game on the Nintendo Switch.

Still, this was definitely a fantastic review of an amazing game, and I especially love how you pair up your script with character dialogue. Too bad not enough games have strong writing like that to allow for such a structure.

I hope your version has a usable soundtrack sample CD; the first time I tried playing it, it nearly got stuck in the car's CD player... : / Otherwise, a very great incentive to pre-order!

Well, I appreciate your sympathy, but at the very least, the game itself has a sound test, so even if the CD is broken, I can still listen to the soundtrack whenever I please, so that's a good-enough compromise. The only downside is that the Switch's volume doesn't always go louder than heavy traffic when showing the songs to someone else

Gametrailers was my go-to website for game reviews. Glad that this channel is keeping it up. Btw, best series was the Final Fantasy Retrospective. Really great stuff. Anyway, good review and love 3 houses
I really appreciate Ben's eye for the over-arching narrative in regards to the villains. No spoilers, I know, but they're underwhelming and I wish more would have been done to flesh them out. One of the drawbacks of branching narratives I suppose. Still loved the game though - about to go in on NG+.
Also: I'd fund a new Patreon-exclusive show: "Ben's Bent Benches".
Every day, Ben passes a bench and just says whether or not it's as bent as the Three Houses benches during certain scenes.

Think like the different house rivalries in Harry Potter, but to a less competitive degree. If you haven't read or watched Potter, it's more like groups of students that you choose to teach, whereas the other two professors handle the rest of the gang.

I realise there is a lot to say about the mechanics in the game, but I felt the review was a bit too heavy on them. feeling more like an elaborate tutorial than a review :) (don't get me wrong, love you guys' work, just noticed it in this particular review)
I’m incredibly impressed with the game so far. I would say I’m a fan of the series, but I haven’t played some of the older games. Everything about this game - from presentation to pacing, gameplay, voice acting, side activities has been stellar so far (I’m on chapter 7 atm). Definitely a GotY contender for me alongside Sekiro. Can’t wait for the free lunatic update for my second playthrough!

I swear I haven’t finished BotW since christmas last year because I can’t force myself to march into the castle until I get most of the filler content. And I still have to find a way to get the last memory in hyrule Castle, and complete all the shrines for the tunic of the wild

Well then the closest choice that you have is Summon Night 6 : it's far from being as good but it's a fine light hearted tactical j-rpg.

Would this game be recommended to those who are beginners of the fire emblem series? (And by that I mean I have never played a fire emblem game ever but I really want to)
Think about it like this: Every Fire Emblem was somebody's first. And if they stuck around its because they liked what it offered.
But to answer your question: Yes. It's got plenty of in game tutorials that are spread out so it's not a huge info dump at once. Some of the legacy mechanics have been altered or removed so it's easier to compare it to other games without Fire Emblem specific knowledge.
It's a very dense game however that requires your full attention to get the most out of. It's easier than most of the older ones, but also more enjoyable outside of battles than any other In the series imo as it's the first with such an involved overworld and side activity.
Do they supply review footage? Happy Console Gamer shows the same stuff.
Remember the story has leaked online for this game guys, so watch out for that :)

It's the same guy. Easy Allies are all former Gametrailers employees that went on to create their own company.

Good review. This game has so much quality story content, 4 routes all pretty different. People are going to have different experiences based on what house and students they choose, which is exciting.
Gamespot, IGN and Gameinformer are all giving it scores in 9s which is crazy good for such a classic JRPG.
Can't wait for tomorrow!

@狐 If you mean artistically better looking, sure, and the animation work is much better too but the texture quality in this game is significantly poorer than Pokemon's environments, which already aren't that great to begin with. Some areas in SWSH also use more advanced graphical effects like the volumetric lighting, weather effects, bloom, etc. You compare the overworlds and structures of both games and the graphical difference looks clearer. Just look at the courtyard grass in Three Houses and you'll see what I meant.

I really can't get over art after how lovely Shadows of Velentia was. I thought a good review would convince me but I can't help but feel I would be better suited picking up an older FE game.
Ben's reviews have truly started to stand out this year so a big thumbs up. My only critique is that the future arc could have been touched upon since I have no idea how all of the school element evolve for that section. Does it just move to a "battle-to-battle" scenario? I have no idea

I don't usually complain about font size, but jeez some of it is tiny and hard on my 37 year old eyes in handheld mode. I think it's the combination of it being both small and a 'light' or 'book' serif font. I get that they're trying to be ye olde here but a thicker san serif font would be a lot easier to read. Hoping for a patch. Is it just me?

I think a lot of people love mages classes (mage, dark mage, bishop...) Those who are in an advanced point of the game, could you confirm whether advanced spells are so poorly as the basic ones? Thanks
i prefer melee classes myself
I don't know what you're asking, but the spells and their usefulness directly relate to the strengths of the unit performing them.

Should I play Awakening before diving in this game? I don't know, I'm afraid I'll get used to this new style and end up not liking the older ones when I go back to them.
Naah. This is just a more expansive Awakening and seems to ve much less divisive amongst fans.
I played awakening first and then went backwards and ended up liking some of the older ones better. This ones okay to jump into first I'd say. In fact I'd recommend it! I dont think I'd be as into this series had I started with an older once since some of them are difficult.

I know what you mean. I know a few people who couldn't get into older Zelda games because their first was BOTW. Awakening is Three Houses without the school. You just jump into battle and support characters. The combat is also easier in Awakening. If you are okay with going to something more open to something linear play Three Houses then Awakening. (Also despite what people say about it I loooved Awakening)

Dreggy 9 I mean you could try hard, you still have the turn wheel type mechanic in hard right? I’m not actually sure. There’s an even harder difficulty being patched in. So it’s really up to you if you want a real challenge right off the bat or not
Whatever classic mode is, it will feel more like Xcom (losing characters, etc). If you restart battles ever use normal.
You can change the difficulty at any point as long as you are not in battle so dont worry

Exactly, after all the game only forces you to use Divine Pulse if Byleth and the main Lords die (or any other characters that are important to story of the battle) but if anyone else dies you aren't forced to use Divine Pulse to save them.

Yes. Each house has different students, but you can recruit other students from other houses.

Playerz714 I wouldn’t necessarily say that unless you find that your tastes align with his at least 9 times out of 10. He may value certain things over other aspects that others may find more important to them.That’s definitely the case for me. I think there are many genuine reviewers out there as well as long as they are not politicizing their reviews and bombing it like some outlets have.
